Rating: Summary: a reliable companion for students and non-students Review: All first year students at Notre Dame receive this small book, and I can't think of a better way to start off a school year. This is such a gift for students, though you certainly don't have to be one to enjoy what it has to offer. I continue to appreciate the diversity of this book because I know there is always a prayer to fit the moment, even if I'm not under an assignment deadline or wading through tough times. Many of these prayers are suitable for simple reflection or, if you do have an exam coming up, you can find something in the section devoted to student life. You'll probably find this much more helpful and inspiring than gen chem. with prayers for study, academic and spiritual insight, help in discerning the future, strength in friendship, athletics, even tests and parties. Also included are numerous psalms, morning and evening prayers, prayers by saints and other holy people, Stations, the Rosary, and of course some Catholic "standards." A few black and white photos of the Notre Dame campus and of general student life complete the collection. I'm usually particular about reference book binding, and I'm happy to say that after 4 years and many papers and exams later, it remains in solid condition.Notre Dame has actually put out a newer book of prayers entitled "The Day Awaits" (published 1997) but I have yet to find it on Amazon. I prefer that edition because it has expanded with prayers for different "seasons of faith," including Lent, Advent, and Ordinary Time, in addition to Easter prayers. Nevertheless, "Day By Day" remains a much-read companion.

Rating: Summary: Great prayer book for young people Review: As a Catholic I've owned this book since the 7th grade. I'm 22 now and this book has helped to raise my spirits through hard times. I would recommend this book to anyone.
Rating: Summary: A keeper. Review: It's been over 15 years since I received my copy of Day by Day as a freshman at the University of Notre Dame. Since then, I've sold, given away, or thrown out all my textbooks, notebooks, and papers, but I've kept this little book. I don't pray frequently, but I reach for Day by Day when stress and pressure begin to overcome me. I keep my copy in the glove compartment of my car. Occasionally this is handy when stuck in traffic. Usually, I read a few pages while sitting in the car after a rough day, before walking into the house and sharing my stress with my family. More than anything, Day by Day makes me laugh. I'll hold on to my copy for a long time.
