Summary: Slightly Disappointed
Review: Although I'm a Lori Wick fan, I was very disappointed in this book. The blurb was really good, but the book just did not live up to expectations. The main characters were sappy and I just couldn't relate to them. I found myself more interested in Dakota, a secondary character, than Liberty and Slater.

Summary: A Heartwarming Romance
Review: Another winner by Lori Wick! The story is wonderfully written with a number of twists and turns. The story is set in Shotgun, Texas in the 1800's. One twist in the story is that the deputy is a woman by the name of Liberty(Libby). She "backs up" her Sherrif brother(Griffen) because she is a very good shot. However a stranger comes to town and turns everything upside down for Libby. Hence the romance story. If you pick this book up, it will be hard to put it down, it is a very easy read.

Summary: A huge disappointment from an author I usually love
Review: I am a big fan of Lori Wick and eagerly buy most of her books, but this one was an ordeal even to make it all the way through. I kept waiting for a plot to develop that would keep me turning pages, but it just never happened. After staying up late nights to get through earlier works such as Pretense and Sophie's Heart, I was hugely disappointment to barely be able to make it through this book.

Summary: A good love story
Review: I am disappointed in how many people find this book sexist. I read it as soon as it came out, and the thought of it being sexist never even entered my mind. I found it to be a genuine love story with the message of Christ within it's pages. Have some self confidence, and don't browbeat authors who are willing to write a love story, and portray the characters the right way for that time frame. The story is based in a different time, and things change. I found it to be a well written story and I look forward to her next novel with great anticipation.

Summary: Very touching, romantic book
Review: I could not put it down. All the characters displayed christian values that are very important to me. I am very happy at the way Lori puts our relationship with Jesus Christ as the most important of all relationships. I laughed, I cried, I learned from this book.

Summary: Excellent portrayal of the time period
Review: I enjoyed this book, and although parts of it may be called sexist by today's standards, Wick did an excellent job of writing a book based on history and not on what life is like today. I would definitely recommend this to people.

Summary: Offensive and, frankly, boring
Review: I have enjoyed many of Mrs. Wick's books. In some of her other books I was a little put off by some kind of sexist things. But I still enjoyed those books for the firm Christian message and the plot. However, this book's whole plot was sexist! Liberty can shoot better than Slater. She was an excellent deputy. He comes along and worries so much that she looses her job to him. Than Mrs. Wick "punishes" her character for her pride and for being put off that Slater took ger job. Please. That kind of stuff really offends me. Liberty was very competent. Slater replaced her only because he was a man and she was a woman. That kind of behaivor is not right in the real world and it's not right in books.

Even if the plot hadn't been blatently sexist, the plot still leaves much to be desired. In fact, there wasn't really one. The whole book centered around Slater taking over Liberty's job.

Please, the kind of behaivor shown in this book may have been okay in the last century, but it isn't now. And I strongly urge you not to buy this book for your daughters. We need the next generation to not allow themselves to be discrimanted against because of their gender. Books like this promote such falty thinking.

Summary: Sums up the decisions of true love
Review: I have just finished reading this book and it was incredible! Right from the first page all the way through i was kept wondering what was going to happen next. The characters came alive and i cried with them, hurt with them, rejoiced with them and felt angry when things didn't turn out as they expected they would. Alot of thought was put into this book and it obviously shows by the overall story. All i can say is that it was awesome and something everyone should read...young and old! :)As a teenager going through disappointments with guys, i could relate so well to their struggles and how they hurt so much when the communcation lines weren't open and feelings were not revealed. It is so important to just tell it the way it is and Lori Wick makes this very obvious in this fantastic book! Great job!
