Summary: First Impressions A+++ in my opinion
Review: I really enjoyed this book. I am also looking forward to the next book (which I have already pre-ordered.) I thought that the book was interesting. I also love books that have humor. I would recommend this book to anyone that wants to read a book that actually speaks of God and prayer in a positive light, instead of a domineering monster that only wants to hurt and hinder the human race.

Summary: great book!
Review: I saw this book in the bookstore several times before I bought it. I thought it might not be that good, even though I love Debra White Smith's books. I ended up buying it one night, and read it within 24 hours! I couldn't put it down, I thought it was great. I had recently watched Pride and Prejudice, and this book was very good. It's similiar enough to remind you of the story, but yet still has it's own twists. I recommend it to anyone, and I can't wait to read the next one in the series.

Summary: For an avid Austen fan, these are a MUST read!
Review: I truely enjoyed Smith's spin-offs of the ever esteemed Austen classics. Although, some might down play her efforts for taking what is old and making it new, I absolutely have enjoyed every moment reading the first two books in this series. For one who does not buy novels often (because my library carries most in stock) these two are sitting on my shelf and I am looking at them as I write. They are must haves if you are an engaging romantic such as myself.

Summary: Pride and Prejudice, indeed~~
Review: Just shows us all how our first impressions definitely can be lasting ones--and how hard it is to fix things if someone gets the wrong impression about us! I stayed up too late reading this book, and I wasn't disappointed. You will definitely root for this heroine and hero to clear the air and let the truth out and let their guards down. :) Nice job!!!

Summary: Bad Impression
Review: The first in a series of modern Austen adaptations, "First Impressions," a "Pride & Prejudice" hybrid, sorely disappoints. It makes a mockery of the elegant, refined life that Jane Austen's beautiful characters lived. Maybe Jane Austen just doesn't need to be adapted. Maybe no one could do her justice. If someone could do Austen justice, though, it is not Debra White Smith. I'm not sure if she should give up writing altogether, or just rewriting classics like "Pride & Prejudice." In Smith's defense, I would probably be disgusted by and offended with ANY modern adaptation of "Pride & Prejudice," because I simply believe that it does not need to be touched. I don't think Austen would approve, firstly. Secondly, I don't think anyone could produce any kind of good adaptation of her work... mainly because you can't make perfect better. ANY attempt is going to fall short. Because of that fact, I recommend the original Austen classics instead of "First Impressions," "Reason and Romance," "Central Park," and the other upcoming novels in Smith's so-called Austen Series.

Summary: Modern Pride and Prejudice
Review: This book was so hard for me to put down. I enjoyed it so much. It is my favorite Pride and Prejudice modern adaption, better than Vanity and Vexation and Bridge Jones's Diary. I will issue a copule of warnings for those of you, who might not enjoy this book to the extent I did. I could rant and rave about it all day, but I figured this might be more helpful!

1. Not in Jane Austen's style of writing
2. The story is very close to the book, but not exact
3. There are three Bennet sisters (Jane, Elizabeth and Lydia)
4. The names of the characters are different but similar to their originals (i.e. Elizabeth Bennet and Eddi Boswick)
5. Georgiana is a boy
6. A lot of religious undertones
7. Lady Catharine and Caroline Bingley are not as unloveable and unbearable characters as before
8. The events that happen in the original P&P are slightly altered becuase the time periods are different. (i.e. Mr. Darcy uses email instead of writing letters and Lydia doesn't go to Brighton she goes to Hawaii)
9. There is a Charlotte and a Mr. Collins though they are not very prominetn characters
10. Takes place in a small town called London, Texas

Now if you can get past all that, you will enjoy the book and not be able to put it down. Eddi Boswick (Lizzy) is such a strong character, there is so much to love and admire about her. She is a laywer. The verbal sparing that goes on between her and Dave (Darcy) is so amusing. You will feel the heat, the passion, the hatred, the attraction, the scorn, the pride and the prejudice.

The ironic thing is that in their small town they are putting on the play of Pride and Prejudice at a dinner theatre and the characters are played by none other than themselves. Try this book, you will find it really is a treasure!

Summary: Jane Austen may be rolling over even as we speak...
Review: This is a ridiculous modernization of "Pride and Prejudice". (At this point I am firm in the belief that the original should be left alone.)

Edwardia, or, Eddi (Lizzie) is a lawyer. William Fitzgerald Davidson, or Dave, (Darcy) is a rich mystery man who is highly suspect that all women want is his money. Amongst the other characters we find Linda (Lydia) who is a 20 year old drinking, valium-popping, unemployed sister to Eddi who manages to get herself pregnant by neglecting to take her birth control pills. Dave helps her decide against an abortion.

I bagged the story by chapter seven and scanned to the end. I was actually hoping to find a spot that might prove to be more fertile ground for the story to blossom but it is just so contrived. The author even has Eddi driving to Dave's house and upon seeing it for the first time, she slams on the brakes to stop the car because she is so over come. Her sister Jenny (Jane) points out that this is exactly the kind of house Eddi had picked as her dream house at the Houston home show. Did Dave look any better to her now? Give me a break. Just hit us over the head!

The thesaurus words the writer inserts in the simplicity of her other writing are so out of place it is really hard to over look them. (The redundancy of other words just make it miserable to read. By chapter seven, we have seen the words warrior, primeval, and sepia each twice, just to name a few.)

I realized this would be a "fluff" read when I bought it but I am not opposed to a little fluff now and then. This, however, was flat out painful to read. I feel bad ever giving a bad review, I don't mean to be mean, but this is such a bad knock-off. I'm hoping to save someone a few bucks. Get it at the library first if you simply have to "see for yourself".

Summary: Jane Austen Revisited
Review: This is a wonderful book. Debra White Smith has done a great job of writing a modern day version of Pride and Prejudice. Whether you are a Jane Austen fan or not, you will love this book. I am anxiously awaiting the next book in her Austen series.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Debra's done it again!
Review: Up until 4 years ago, I hated to read. By chance, I picked up Debra's "The Texas Series" books and was unable to put them down until I finished the last one. All of Debra White Smith's books make me feel like I am "in" the book watching what is happening at that very moment. First Impressions is no exception. Debra is a gifted writer who is able to describe every detail to the "t". She is one of the few writers who is able to keep my attention. I have yet to read one of her books that are "cheesy". She is a very educated, intelligent and Godly woman and it shows through in her writing. Great Job, Debra!
