Summary: Love it! Were that we are all so fortunate to have read it!
Review: This is an awesome book...it is NOT a modernization of P&P but a story based on it with the storyline similar! In the book the main characters are puting on a play of P&P but at the same time thier lives (mindsets, actions, family) mirror P&P. I love it! My only annoyance was that the author uses a certain phrase with too many characters too many times thoughout the book...if you've read it you may guess it yourself..."Were that we are all..." As follows are my own make up examples, but I'm thinking of rereading and marking every instance. Were that we were all so good-natured. Were that we are all so fortuate to read this book. I will overlook this little annoyance, because I love the story. Were that we all could have wonderful writing skills like hers. I swear it pops up at least 6 times in different ways. I'm reading and enjoying and just as I think she won't use it again it pops up yet another time...I could understand if it was one character who uses it consistantly (like the heroine's father) but what bugs me is the different variations used buy different characters.
It really bugged me but all in all I will add this book to my favorites list. The funny thing is I usually don't get bugged by these types of things.
It's worth the read, but just be warned so when you read these little sayings you'll laugh instead of get irritated.
Also I would agree that reading this book helped me understand P&P just that much more.

Summary: Super Good Book!!!
Review: FIRST IMPRESSIONS is a super good book!!! I would give it 10 stars if that rating was possible! Wow! I stayed up until 3:30 a.m. finishing it! I don't believe I've ever stayed up that late to finish a book, but I just couldn't put it down! Great job, Debra White Smith!!! You're one of my all-time favorite authors! And you're just as wonderful in person -- I was so excited when I got to meet you at our Women's Retreat! I sooo look forward to REASON AND ROMANCE as soon as it's available and then CENTRAL PARK, which is to come out in early 2005 -- as well as the rest that will come out later. Your Austen Series is great! In fact, FIRST IMPRESSIONS even helped me understand Pride and Prejudice much better. Keep up the super good writing!

Summary: Austen Fanatics, pay attention
Review: I can't wait to read the rest of the series! I don't know how anyone could NOT like Debra White Smith's stories. If they have watched, or read, any of Jane Austen's novels, they would be highly impressed. I, myself, am a huge fan of Jane Austen. I have several of her books, and all of her movies. In fact, I have three versions of Pride and Prejudice, and two versions of Sense and Sensibility. Plus, I have Mansfield Park, Persuasions, Northanger Abby, and Emma. Each one of these I have watched twenty times or more. I was immensely impressed with the way Debra wove the plot and theme of P&P throughout her story. While reading this wonderful book, I was awestruck with Debra's delightful imagination. First Impression is a masterpiece...just like Jane Austen's original version. The quality of Debra's writing is a "breath of fresh air". If you love Jane Austen, you'll love this story. Caution: Once you start reading, you won't be able to put it down. So, fix yourself a cup of hot chocolate, pop a bag of popcorn, and sit down with a copy of First Impressions. You'll be glad you did.

Summary: Fun Easy Reading with a Classical Theme
Review: I enjoyed Debra White Smith's book and found it to be fun, easy reading that follows the theme of a classic. It is refreshing to be able to pick up a book that's entertaining yet wholesome. Anyone in my home could pick it up a read it, even my 11 year old!! Thank you for writing books without smut or bad language. I'm looking forward to the second book in the series.

Summary: Great Reading - Loved It
Review: I enjoyed this book very much. Pride and Prejudice is one of my favorite books.

Would Debra consider writing a sequel with the characters in modern times and after married?

Summary: I couldn't put this book down
Review: I have just begun to explore Jane Austen's work and Debra White Smith's new book First Impressions held my attention, I couldn't put it down! The author develops each character with parallel plots set in modern day time. Just a great read! Can't wait for the next in the series!

Summary: Close but no Jane Austen
Review: I have to admit that First Impressions was fairly good. I enjoyed it tremendously; I stayed up late in the night to finish. The only problems I do have with First Impressions is that Eddie and Dave should (if not wouldn't) realize their very, very similar circumstances with the play they were performing. (As another critic said in a review on Romance & Reason~ Austen Series, Bk. 2.) Austen's portrayal of Lydia seemed a little bit too drastic. (But, of course I guess some of Lydia's wildness was crucial to the plot.) And being in the Christian market I suspected more of a Christian viewpoint but, you could only think Eddie was a Christian when she went to church. Other than that I really enjoyed First Impressions.
