Rating: Summary: WONDERFUL Review: The Princess is a great book! I love the characters in this book, and the storyline is just awesome. It's about a young woman named Shelby, who agrees to have an arranged marrige with Prince Nikolai. After they get married Shelby struggles to get close to the prince, and the prince tries to stay away from her a first. I can't tell any more because it might ruin the book, but I strongly reccomend this book for people who like romance.
Rating: Summary: Great story Review: When I was in my church Library as usual, I was looking up and down the shelves for a book I may be intrested in. The title of this book caught my eye. When I started reading it, it kept me so intrested I never wanted to put the book down. I could not relate to any of the characters but I found the book great in many other ways. When Shelby and Nick met in the book it was through arranged marriage which I thought was a little wierd. They Had to grow to love eachother, which wasn't always an easy task. They communicated when need be, but other than that they pretty much stayed away from eachother. As the new princess Shelby had to live up to others expectations of her and she really didn't enjoy that. She rarely got to visit her family which was the sad part, In this book I must say I had to put it down a few times to wipe my eyes. So over all this book was a great now days book. with a tint of olden days in it. This isn't your everyday love story book. It had more meaning and visual aids to help you really get in to the book. You read other books and think and know they are a little fake, this one actually gets you to think this is a reall thing, considering that back in the days they actually did marry by arranged marriages.During the book the one question I always had is when are they going to fall in love like a married couple was supposed to. Then I figured out when they did or didn't. This is a book that is making me read more of Lori Wick's books.
Rating: Summary: OH man this book was so good Review: I started this book yesterday and barely put it down. It was so so good. I suggest you read this book if you like romance!
Rating: Summary: The Princess Review: This was my first Lori Wick book. Now I'm hooked. I can't put her books down. Her characters are powerful and it's wonderful to see how The Lord works through them in each book. I love the way Lori develops her characters and how she keeps romance soft and exciting. I highly recommend this book and invite you to read her many other wonderful books.
Rating: Summary: Simple, but thought provoking... Review: I read the Princess by Lori Wick for the first time recently. It was the first book of hers that I have read, and as such I have none of her other books to compare it to. But just comparing it to other books overall, and my standards for a book, I would say that it was wonderful! Many reviewers have mentioned that it was a very light book, too simple plot, shallow characters, and rather overdone when it comes to sweetness. Well, here are my opinions regarding some of those points. First of all, many have said that it is a light book. I believe that all depends on what level you read it. You could read it as a simple Christian romance, and as such it does fall under the category of light. But if while you read the Princess you compare the story to your own life, it suddenly has much more meaning. For example, could you imagine one day having a King or other famous person come to you and ask you to consider marrying their son or daughter? It would probably be a very hard decision. You would probably never have considered an arranged marriage and might balk at the very idea. One very important issue is of what faith they are. But let's say they are of the same faith, are you willing to put your future into the hands of a stranger? Perhaps you've always dreamed of falling in love with the perfect man, one who has never loved another girl, but you find that the prince (or princess) has been married and still loves their deceased spouse. But you feel the Lord wants you to join with this person in marriage, it would probably be a very long struggle. If you think about what is really happening in the story, it is amazingly complex, and the entire plot provides a lot of food for thought. Secondly, the characters are described very well in the area that matters, areas of the heart and mind. This book gives you a lot of insight into the characters, which I consider one of the most important aspects of a good book. On the other hand, it does not describe their physical characteristics much, but leave them to your imagination. This almost guarantees that you will stop and think about the book a little, not just skim through it. As for sweetness, it is what makes the story in so many ways. It would just be a totally different story if Shelby wasn't as sweet and Nicolai wasn't as forgiving. Besides, this helps show what a Christ-centered attitude should be like. One more point, the commoners versus royalty issue. I believe that that shouldn't really be an issue for any Christian, and in the book the prince's parents first of all wanted to find someone that was strong in their faith, would support and build up the prince, and maybe someday fall in love with him. Royalty was not really an issue there. All in all, I thought this was a very good thought-provoking book and would recommend it to anyone who likes a book that is written in an easy to understand manner, but at the same time addresses many interesting issues.
Rating: Summary: hooked! Review: This is an awesome book! I fell in love with characters, and since I have finished, I have missed reading about them. This is my first Lori Wick book, and I am going to be a regular customer of Lori Wick for a while now. I am hooked!
Rating: Summary: It had possibilities... Review: I would not have spontaneously bought this book if I didn't think it was going to deliver. The plot sounded good and original, very sweet. Unfortunately, Ms. Wick's story left... something to be desired. I don't have a problem with the storyline of a prince marrying and falling in love with a commoner. This is fiction, after all. What I do have a problem with is that this comes across as a painfully straightforward Christian soap opera. All the characters are Christian, which makes for something of a monotonous feel. Shelby, the heroine, is painfully two-dimensional. People rave on and on about how devout and sweet and lovely she is, but she is SO sweet and lovely that I saw little of a human spark in her. She doesn't act like a real human. From what I've heard, this is normal. I mean, why doesn't Ms. Wick create a woman who is ANGRY at herself for marrying a man she doesn't love? Afraid of this new life? Traumatized by her miscarriage? Why couldn't some of Nikolai's relatives start sniping at her? And she goes into labor, and is upset that she had to leave church? Aren't we stretching the boundaries of human devoutness at times? And beyond-a-dream was correct: there was an excellent chance for personal growth... blown out of the water. I also found the plotline a little tedious. Much of it seemed to be "Will Nikolai fall in love with Shelby? Will he sleep with Shelby? Will Shelby ever have a baby?" I mean, if somebody were, say, trying to end the family line and put the not-so-happy couple in danger, you would've needed a crowbar to pry my fingers away. But sadly, that's all there is. When I read that Nikolai and Shelby had separate rooms, but an heir was needed, I could predict what would happen by the end. I really did want to like this book... But unfortunately the heroine is too syrupy, the plotline too straightforward, and the characters too alike. I may have to start shopping for a new Christian romance author...
Rating: Summary: An enchanting story Review: The Princess was the first Wick novel I read, and since then I have read every one of her books. What I love about her is that you know exactly where she's coming from, her faith and love for the Lord saturates each book she writes, and this one is no exception. Perhaps the best part about this novel is the fantasy of it; a handsome, contemporary prince in an imaginary land marries, and falls in love with a normal citizen. Isn't that why we read fiction- to be taken away from everyday life for a few hours? I highly recommend this book and any other of Wick's, for her sweet stories and uncompromising commitment to Christ.
Rating: Summary: Common girl becomes a princess Review: An ordinary girl unexpectedly becomes a princess and is thrust into a world that is vastly different from the world she grew up in. And to make things worse, her new husband is still mourning the death of his first wife! Can Shelby adapt to palace life? Will she and her husband learn to love each other? This book is excellent reading for "Love Comes Softly" fans, Lori Wick fans, and any girl who has ever dreamed of becoming a princess.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: I was disappointed with this book because of the lack of description of the land and characters (with the exception of Shelby who had red hair and, as the reader is constantly reminded, sweet). The reader is left with the chore of creating his/her own imagery of a highly unbelievable plot with two-dimensional characters.
