Rating: Summary: Imagine Seeing Every Outcome in a BLINK Review: The mind of Ted Dekker never ceases to amaze me. I was able to reach my mind into this story and travel along with the main character. I enjoyed the character Seth Border and the way this writer molded him from a skeptic, scientific mind to being able to open his mind to life's miraculous possibilties. This story takes you beyond the finite answers of science and philosophy to the infinite and wonderous power of God.
Rating: Summary: Fast, daring and definitely timely Review: Dekker's plot moves quickly, primarily involving Seth, a genius who can see possible futures, and Mirium, a Saudi princess running from an unwanted arranged marriage that promises troublesome political realignments for the Middle East. In the midst of the chase, the two discuss the existence of God, Christianity, and the nature of faith. Are all cultures "different but equal?" When our notion of human rights clashes with centuries-old traditions, should we interfere? The writing, plot, character development and pacing are execellent. My one gripe is that extremely important and delicate issues are "solved" in a manner too convenient and direct. Characters give us the solutions through their dialogue, rather than the storyline allowing us to discover them for ourselves. Dekker is not overbearing in the messages he delivers, but he is not subtle either. Bottom-line: Blink is a fast-paced engaging story full of characters that evoke strong feelings. You almost want to pray for the heroes, and the bad guys remind us that there is evil in the world. 4+ stars for a top-notch story that a little subtlety could have put over the top.
Rating: Summary: Causes insomnia! You won't want to stop reading! Review: Ted Dekker's book should be issued with a warning sticker :Take a nap before reading. This thriller will keep you turning pages, breathless, all night. Berkley student Seth Borders possesses a genius I.Q. and an unusual gift-he is able to foresee events and their possible outcomes. At a faculty banquet held in his honor, a vision of a woman in distress overcomes him, and he rushes to the rescue. Miriam is a Saudi Arabian princess who fled her country to escape an arranged marriage. This marriage would align the groom's forces with her father's to overthrow the reigning king. Miriam is the key element to the coup. She must be found. Seth and Miriam are able to evade their captors using Seth's powerful gift. A relationship develops as the fugitives outrun their would-be-captors. Seth is not a believer, and Miriam is a Muslim. How can God use two such renegades to prevent a conflict in the Middle East? When Seth puts God to the test, the outcome shocks him and causes Miriam to question the foundation of her religious beliefs. . Just as the prophets of old were able to foretell events through divine power, Blink shows God using a man of today to help shape history. Ted Dekker has woven a complex book telling an amazing story about very real people. Just heed the warning: once you start reading, you won't want to quit.
Rating: Summary: Zoom, zoom! A fast paced unforgettable story. Review: What a great story! Ted Dekker is a talented writer, who in this case is able to take two seemingly unrelated storylines and bring them together with a thrilling and supernatural blend of suspense and action. The writing is so compelling that it was nearly impossible to put the book down. Put this one in the "blurry eyed, so tired, can't go to sleep now, must stay up and finish" category! The only drawback was that the first three quarters are so good, that the ending was a bit far-fetched in comparison. The spiritual aspects unfold with a healthy dose of skepticism and a surprise bit of "divine intervention". The basic plot follows two storylines, one of a brilliant, 190+ IQ level genius and scoundrel named Seth who is spending his time tormenting his professors at Berkeley and solving complex mathematical equations including one which supposedly proves the existence of God. The other is about a princess in Saudi Arabia who flees the country to avoid an arranged marriage on which hinges a potential political coup in the Saudi government. Now, if a writer can bring these two stories together in a plausible way that is saying something! Along the way Seth picks up a remarkable ability to see the future, not just one possible future but many. While two different factions from Saudi, and everyone from the local police to the NSA, are in America trying to capture or kill the Princess, Seth is helping her escape. The rest you have to experience. With great writing, and spiritual and theological threads woven throughout, the result is a book that is simply a blast to read! Suspend your disbelief and enjoy. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: One of the best books I've read in a long time! Review: It's a shame that the first review of this book that Amazon surfers will read is an off-balance downer paragraph from Publishers Weekly. Perhaps I'm not an avid reviewer or a curmudgeonly critic, but I do consider myself to be a fairly typical American from Denver, Colorado, who enjoys stories that resonate with my heart's desire to be swept up in a good story about love. Dekker sweeps the reader very successfully in "Blink," while at the same time intelligently weaving a tale of relevance and purpose with tremendously three-dimensional, magnetic characters. If you're somebody who likes a great story and some thoughtful theological consequence, you will enjoy this book.
Rating: Summary: I'm amazed! Review: One word to describe this book---WOW!! This book is impossible to put down. It is fast-paced and full of action with characters that you feel that you know. I did not want the book to end! I will be reading everything Ted Dekker has written.
Rating: Summary: Blink Review: Is this book as good as his others? Even better. I would like to say "Three" is way better, but this was Dekker's first step into boundray of Christianty. Dekker is learning that to catch flies you need vinager. Sometimes Christians make this step is rather wierd, but is worth it. This book is all about faith. Want a good pick-me-up, buy this.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book Review: Blink was the first book by Ted Dekker I'd read. It was also the first book that seriously kept me on the edge of my seat while reading it. Blink will have you up late at night trying to figure out what will happen next. It was in no way predictable and the only let down was that the chases got a little monotonus but aside from that, Blink is a very very good book.
Rating: Summary: This book is worth the reading Review: The book was a bit too slow in the beginning. It took me nearly a month to get past the first 5 chapters. The book seemed like it would be a very boring. I was able to get past Chapter 10 when everything took off. It seems God had given Seth a gift that all of us desire, see into the future. Unfortunately, greed will set in and we would use this gift to benefit ourselves only. It's good story of FAITH and the POWER of TRUE PRAYER. Seth had a gift that kept him from being captured. Although he did not believe in God, he knew someone had to create the universe. As for Faith, it taught both Miriam & Seth to trust the one true God without seeing any results right away. This should teach each TRUE Christian the same thing. It takes Faith to trust the Lord and wait until the answer comes. The power of prayer is something most Christians take very lightly. I for one am a bad example of taking prayer lightly. Not anymore. This book reminds me to NEVER ever take prayer lightly ever again. You never know how the Father will answer. That's FAITH!!
Rating: Summary: GREAT read Review: Just as fast paced as with all Dekker's books. I admire him for that and his ability to create the visual experience. I think the Publisher's Weekly's review is a bit harsh and missed the mark on several points. Dekker's treatment of the Koran and Islamic beliefs seem to stem from personal experience rather than an outside perspective, I found that refreshing. This is one of my favorites of his due to some thought provoking ideas he presents.
