Rating: Summary: Get into the Word! Review: This book exposes Catholicism roots, even Catholic writers from centuries back accept Pagan introduction into the Catholic Church. If you don't believe what this book exposes, be more simple, compare Roman Catholic doctrine against the Inspired Word of God. Many of this doctrines go against the most basic principles of Christianity. From save by works and not by grace, from the virgin mary pronunciations, from the Pope being infalible, etc. And this are not Alexander Hislop things, these are the official cathechism of the Catholic Church. What Hislop does in this work is explain why are this doctrines like this, and what this organization really represents. The basic diference between Catholic Church and a Christian Church or Protestant (the name isnt important) is where there authority comes from, for Catholics, pronunciations of the Church, Pope, Cathecism, etc. become great deal of authority, even if it contradicts the Bible. For protestant the authority resides on the Bible, and following what Jesus taught. Which definately the main teaching is love one another, and with that love witness the true that you have seen.
We as Christians are call to love, but also to carried with us the true, so that all can grow in full in the love of Christ. One thing many sects, etc. have in common is they take away the preminence of Jesus Christ, and one of them is the Catholic Church, not only in their teachings but in their history. If you go through history you'll see that the same deceiving methods the enemy used from the begining of time are the same he is using these days.
This book is a good exposure of many things, not only try checking the cites of books, but get into history, worldwide history to confirm this and many things. But most important get into the only inspired word of God (the Bible). And test the spirits against it, everything you read balance it against scripture. You'll be surprise to find not only how much deceiving not only the Roman Catholics are doing, but Jehovahs Witness, Mormons, SDA, etc. Only one way, the son Jesus, only one word, the Bible. with much love, God Bless.
Rating: Summary: excellent referal Review: "Hislops book, The Two Babylons, would be a valuable addition to your library". Dr. J. Vernon McGee Thru The Bible Radio
Rating: Summary: The Two Babylons, why I'm glad I'm out of the broom closet Review: This is a "popular history" executed in a scholarly fashion. Would to God we were better scholars ourselves (or had access to the resources and the time and inclination to research same...) so that we wouldn't have to rely on others for our information. Hislop has done the Christian and Roman Catholic world a great service by delineating the difference between the two. I highly recomend "The Great Controversy" (subtitle: Between Christ and Satan) by E. G. White as a companion to this title as it contains further documentation and a wider range of study. The G. C. treats on the entire Christian dispensation from the time of Christ's first advent until His second advent, and in that vein contains both history and prophecy; all of which is thoroughly documented with Scriptural references. This book is also rather lengthy, as a work with the scope of this magnitude might well be expected, and its prose is also (like Hislop's) rather archaic, having been penned in the 19th century, but truth is timeless. And it will lead you into a closer association with Him whom to know is life eternal.
