Rating: Summary: Excellent Book Review: Peretti has done it again with yet another excellent book that I couldn't put down for one minute. After having my dad recommend it to me and finding out my 13-year-old sister got too scared to finish the book...I was expecting some spectacular. I wasn't disappointed. I stayed up until 2:00 am to finish this book and found myself spending much of that time nervously looking around to make sure I was really alone. This book is worth every minute of the time it takes to read it!!
Rating: Summary: Surprisingly Good! Review: Before I decieded to read this book, I looked on several websites and read the author's mini-bio. I'll admit I was skeptical when I read that the author writes with a Christian basis. I'm a Christian also but many stories like that come off preachy and take away from the plot. This wasn't like that. The children in the book Elisha and Elijah set a good example for other teens through their actions not by forcing their beliefs on others. This all happens while the author weaves a marvolous tale that keeps you guessing till the end. I don't want to spoil anything but I sure was surprised with the turnout.
Rating: Summary: Awesome book Review: it is a great book. I own it and I've read it about 3 times. It can be a bite scary for some younger kids. But it the scary with zombies walking aroiund eating people. It's a really clean book and I would highly recomend it.
Rating: Summary: Awesome Review: This is the best book I've ever read. It's suspensful, funny, scary all at the same time. I would strongly suggest you read this book.
Rating: Summary: Amazing for all ages Review: This was an awesome book. A friend of mine was reading it and just from the cover it looked cool so i asked if i could read it when he was done. I did I and I couldn't put it down. I am a lot older than the suggested reading level, and generally read books at college and adult levels, but I really enjoyed this book. A must.
Rating: Summary: Don't start this book unless you have time to finish it Review: I love Peretti's books so even though this one is written for young people I had to have it. Once I started it I could not put it down. The young main characters are great. They are definitly not typical teens. They are in fact secret operatives investigating unusual occurences. Kind of the teen versions of The X-Files Moulder and Scully. On the surface this is a mystery, suspense story. But it doesn't stop there. Like other works by Peretti, deeper messages are hidden in this book. As a parent and as someone who actually works with teens. I highly recommend Hangman's Curse not only for it's entertainment value but for the deep moral issues it explores. This book would be great for any young or not so young person who likes mystery, suspense, sci fi, or a plain old fashioned ghost story but with a message.
Rating: Summary: An extremely good book Review: This has to be one of Frank Peretti's best books. It has excitement but it has christian values in it to.
Rating: Summary: Loved every heart stopping minute!! Review: I loved this book! I thought it was a wonderful mix of mystery, suspense, and religious values. I loved it so much, my dad read it and loved it too. It was wonderful. We look forward to Vol. 2.
Rating: Summary: If you need sleep, be careful when reading this book Review: As a 15 year old high school kid, I have to get up 5:30 every morning. However, this book kept me reading for hours, and even when I was tired I couldn't put it down. 100 pages from the end, I came home the next day and read for 2 hours just so I could finish the book. This is undoubtedly the best book i have every read!
Rating: Summary: Not Just for the Kids Review: With my kids beginning to show interest in spiritual things, particularly "Harry Potter..." and "Goosebumps" books, I decided to offer an alternative with a Christian worldview. I purchased "Hangman's Curse" and asked if they'd like to read it together. By the end of the first chapter, they started getting interested; by the end of the second, they were hooked, begging me to go on after every chapter.Peretti makes the story accessible to kids (mine are not yet 10 yrs old), but also intelligent enough for the older crowd. He follows the exploits of a young family involved in the investigation of mysterious happenings. Going undercover, the entire family--even the dog, Mr. Maxwell--take part in unmasking the dark happenings at a troubled high school. Students are falling under a debilitating spell and all signs point to evil curses as the cause. The family, trusting in God and in their individual talents, works to prove that Godly truth reigns supreme over spiritual delusion. In the midst of the suspense, Peretti also makes some points regarding troubled kids and how they respond in our culture. He states valuable arguments regarding morality and relativism in a manner that kids can understand. He also throws in humor to lighten the darker and more mysterious moods. Bottom line: My kids were hooked and they can't wait for the next book in "The Veritas Project" (they're even begging for a movie version), and I had just as much fun reading it with them. The next in the series will be first on our list.
