Summary: A good mystery
Review: Summary: A family of under cover agents working for a team that solves mysteries is assigned to a project in Washington D.C. The case is later named the Veritas Project. Many students in the school have been hallucinating. They have been going crazy, screaming out things about Able Frye, the schools ghost. Students at Baker High (the name of the high school) feel that Able Frye has been visiting these students, and has come back for revenge.
Elijah and Elisha (the teenage agents) learn about the past of the ghost from the attending students, while their parents, Nate and Sarah, learn about it from the school board. The stories told are very different. In one of the rumors, Able Frye stalked a girl in the hallway, killed her then hanged himself there. Now, students say, he is back for revenge. The parents hear a completely different story, the truth about Able Frye. They think that it is not his ghost that has been causing the hallucinogens, but something else. Elijah and Elisha aren't so sure. After talking to the other students, Elijah learns that there is a student who claims is able to talk to the ghost of Able Frye. Elijah becomes a friend of the student-Ian, and learns that he may really be able to do what he claims. Elisha on the other hand begins to talk to a student teacher named Norman. Norman is a very very bright kid, but gets picked on by the jocks and bullies a lot.
After investigating the deaths of the students, (yes, they later die) the team learns that they all have one thing in common. There is found near something they were doing, a straw, with two sugar plugs in it. There is also found a strange liquid inside the straw. Also, on the locker is an engraved picture of Able Frye. Could it be the ghost of Able Frye who has been causing the deaths? Or could it be something else'?
I liked this book because it was a book filled with a lot of mysteries. As soon as one plot was solved, another one came, almost immediately. Also, a lot of detail went into this book. When I was reading this book, I could almost picture what it was the author was describing in my mind.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes mysteries, death, and a lot of action. But for anyone who cannot handle non-stop excitement, this book is not for them. Since the book is for young adults, it would not be good for people under 12 years of age. This book is, however, good for all genders. Since there are two main characters, and the main characters are a boy and a girl, both boys and girls will enjoy this book. I hope that they would enjoy it as much as I did.

Summary: A good (Christian) book
Review: I'd thought about buying this book several times before I finally went ahead, and I still think it's a good idea I did. The plot is compelling: a crimesolving family goes undercover at a high school to discover the cause of several students' illness: paranoia, dementia, unconsciousness, and finally death.

You can read the other reviews to discover what exactly the plot's about. It had several unexpected twists that (not to sound corny) kept me on the edge of my seat.

There were really only a couple problems with the book:
1. Stereotypical characters. Depicting Witches as troubled, violent Goths... "Her weirdness did not fit well; it was just too intentional." Not everybody wants to be the same. Their idea of a Pagan ritual was also horribly deformed, like the author had been watching too many bad horror movies (The Craft, anyone?)

2. The need to squeeze Christian morals into an otherwise good book. I didn't need the kids telling me how to think at the end, I can figure that out for myself. And Elijah "triumphing" over the atheist teacher, or the disproving of evolution, was just too much. If you really believe in those things, why do you feel the need to prove it to yourself and others, Mr. Peretti?

Overall it was good, however I wish that there had been warning about the Christian ideas being force-fed to the reader beforehand- maybe next time store it on the Christianity shelves? If you're easily offended by that sort of arrogance (you know what I mean), then don't read it. Otherwise, the plot is still enjoyable, even with the author's need to fit his own personal morals in with a good story. Will I get the next book? Probably.

Summary: Awsome Book!!
Review: I'm a sixteen year old male, and reading this book was better than watching TV. Now for me to say that, thats high praise. I'm also a homeschooler, and trying to get something thats set in a public school place is difficult. In this book I could relate to just about all the characters, which is really rare. The book had alot of good mystery and suspense which kept me reading and wanting more after I was done. I actually saw the movie before I read the book. I have to say the movie was better than the book. The kinda amplified the intire thing, which was really cool. This is a great book for everyone young and old.

Try to see the movie If you can't it comes out to movie and DVD in spring 2004.

Summary: Remarkable
Review: This is an amazing book. It's filled with realistic characters and a great plot. Peretti has once again given his fans a satisfying book. Buy this book, the second one, and go see the movie. You won't be dissapointed.

Summary: Thank you, Frank!!
Review: I just wanted to say that it's wonderful that we have good Christian books like this one that teenagers absolutely love. I have heard several young men say how much they enjoyed Hangman's Curse, and not only because of the excelent plot. Thank you for another great book, Frank!

Summary: Hangman's Curse
Review: This book was pretty interesting. Frank Peretti definately did his research. The reason the book is so succesful is because something like this could happen in real life (although I doubt it would).
However. There was one thing about this book that was totally stereotyped: the witches. The witches in this book were nothing like the ones I know in real life. I mean, come on, they dressed all in black and made sacrifices. Who does that anymore, other than satanists?
Elijah Springfield...he wasn't very well developed. His sister Elisha was like his female counterpart, although she was a little more likeable.
I thought Ian Snyder was cool, in a wierd sort of way. To be honest, when I first read the book, I was hoping Ian and Elisha would hook up. But that probably won't happen because she's a Christian and he isn't.
Overall, the book was pretty good. I won't give the ending away, but it is a little disappointing. And really, the book doesn't give a very accurate portrayal of teasing either. Read this book once, then see if you like it.Don't say I didn't warn you if you're disappointed.
Fortunately, veritas project #2 looks more interesting. hopefully it will be an improvement on this book.

Summary: Delightfully creepy.
Review: Hangman's Curse is the first in a new series by Frank Peretti called The Veritas Project. The main characters are Elijah and his twin sister Elisha. They solve mysteries with the aid of their parents, Sarah and Nate.

In this book, they are trying to figure out why kids have suddenly started going insane at some highschool. They collapse and start babbling nonsense words. A rumor is going around that they are being haunted by the ghost of Abel Frye, a student who supposedly hung himself a while back.

Everyone suspects that a kid named Ian Snyder is behind the attacks, but there is no proof. Ian is definately wierd. He wears all black and supposedly once stuck a needle through his tongue to freak out a teacher. He also gets picked on constantly by all the athletes.

Elisha and Elijah have to go undercover in the highschool and try to figure out what's going on. Elijah gets in a hilarious conversation with his teacher over morals. The teacher says that there isn't such a thing as right or wrong. People should be allowed to decide for themselves. Elijah then asks if that statement is right or wrong. Surprisingly enough, he is supported in his arguements by no other than Ian Snyder.

Elisha makes friends with a lot of people, including a nerd called Norman who was also picked on by the same guys who picked on Ian and are now insane.

The plot takes an interesting turn when someone nice is goes insane, and then dies within 24 hours.

The ending made my skin crawl, it was so creepy. Still, I absolutely love this book and would recommend it to anyone above the age of 11.

Summary: hangman review
Review: The book was about a four star book until the end which was not very good at all. The book was good overall even with the bad end.
in the begging of the book the investigators were doing a drug bust when they got called to the school to take on the case of figuring out what happened. AT first the thing the cops knew that the victims had in common was that they were all starters on the varsity football team planning to win the championship. The most recent was Jim Blotz (he was the star quarterback). Everyone thinks that Ian Snyder is the one responsible but they can not prove it. Peretti even makes people believe that Ian is responsible with the title of this book. i wont say more cause it will give away the ending but it is one of the better books i have read.
So overall I liked it and I suggest that if you are thinking about reading this novel read it.
