Summary: Frank Peretti's Hangman's Curse
Review: If you like drama, suspense, and thrillers, Frank Peretti's Hangman's Curse is the book for you. This is one of the best books I have ever read. The book is extremely easy to read and is extremely intense and filled with suspense. There was never a dull moment and I was kept on the edge of my seat the whole time. The Hangman's Curse has a great story line, even better characters, and deals with the important issues of today. I really enjoyed the book and recommend it to anyone.
The Hangman's Curse is based in a high school setting dealing with one of today's hottest issues. The book begins with three popular athletes lying in the hospital and suffering from comas. They are strangely paranoid, and it is obvious that they are having extreme hallucinations. They all have one main thing in common: they all are saying that Abel Fry is the cause of their weird illness. Abel Fry is a rumored curse that haunts Baker High School and has been around ever since a student hung himself in the "forbidden hallway" back in the 1930's. After striking the first three victims, this curse begins to rapidly spread through the school, taking out students one by one. The school calls on the Springfield family to investigate this mysterious curse. After several deaths, a series of close encounters, endless twists and turns, and weeks of investigation, the Springfield team finally uncovers the truth behind this "curse" and they quickly put an end to Abel Fry and his crawling assistants.
I'm not much of a reader. In fact I have maybe only read two complete books in my life, so, needless to say, when I started reading this book, I had my doubts. However, it actually ended being the best book I have read. Since it is written in a high school setting, I was extremely interested, considering I am a high school student. This was the type of book that I really got pulled into because of all of the drama and suspense. There was never a time while reading that I wasn't on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to take place next. One of the only complaints I have about this book is the author's use of transitions. Within a chapter, it would switch from scene to scene several times, leaving me question what was going on and where it was taking place. This reminded me of how a movie is set up. This book would make a great movie and the transitions would work well in one, but it did not work very well in the book. Other than the setting confusion, I really enjoyed the book and found it to be extremely easy reading.
In the beginning of Hangman's Curse, the story line seems slightly farfetched and unbelievable. But once I was finished reading the entire book and got through all the twists in the story, it was actually easily believable. Peretti chose some great characters and they were developed in a very well-done manner. The first forty or so pages were nothing but discussing the characters and giving the reader a good grasp of who they were and what their motives were. These forty pages were the least of interest, but they really made the rest of the story easier to read. What I loved most about the story was the plot and the moral that it had. The basic plot dealt with bullying and school violence. Many students in Baker High School were being beat up and abused right under the teachers' noses but nothing was ever done until the "curse" struck. This occurs in many students, and this book teaches that something needs to be done about it. This book is also from a Christian perspective and it also deals a lot with God and how everyone is equal in his eyes. I really enjoyed this story because of the plot and characters and I actually learned so much by reading this intense book.
I would recommend The Hangman's Curse to anyone who can read. I think that it would interest the young as well as the old, and the christians as well as the non-christians. I would especially recommend this book to high school students. It really puts into perspective the way students are being treated and I believe that by reading this book, a person would think twice before bullying someone else. Even though the story got slightly confusing because of transitions, it is a really interesting and easy to read book that is full of suspense, twists, and so much drama. I honestly feel that anyone who reads this book will enjoy it as much as I have.

Summary: Riveting page-turner
Review: The Hangman's Curse is Frank Peretti's first installment in a new series, The Veritas Project, aimed at young teens. The story unfolds just as if it is a story right out of today's headlines and deals with the issue of bullying on the high school campus. The Springfield family, consisting of twins Elisha and Elijah and their parents, make up the investigation team working on The Veritas Project. The program's mission is to investigate and solve strange mysteries, crimes, and occurrences, seeking not only the facts, but the truth behind the facts. In Hangman's Curse, the Springfield family's assignment is to discover the truth behind the mysterious form of madness that is inflicting Baker High School's athletes. What is causing this madness? Is it tied to the superstition of a curse left by the ghost of a student who has haunted the school since he hanged himself at the school in the 1930's? Who is the ghostly figure with a hawk on his shoulder that is seen by those tormented by the mysterious madness? Is he Abel Frye and is Abel Frye the student who hung himself? What is the meaning of the crude etching of a hangman figure on the lockers of each victim? It seems that it is the bullies that have been targeted and are the ones contracting the mysterious illness. Are they suffering a form of revenge from a group of students that is meeting secretly practicing witchcraft? What is the truth? The answers are uncovered as you follow the Springfield family's quest for the truth behind the mystery. The Hangman's Curse is a fast-paced and riveting page-turner. The truth behind the mysterious madness will surprise the reader. Teens as well as adult fans of Peretti will enjoy this book. When finished, the reader will be eagerly awaiting the next installment in this series.

Summary: One Sweet Book
Review: This book is awesome! I Absolutely loved the part with the witches, spiders, and typical science nerd. It is about the Veritas Project,an undercover government team made up of a family of Christians. It makes an awsome book and will probably make an even sweeter movie. I also Reccomend book 2: nightmare academy.

Summary: The best book I've ever read!
Review: Hangman's Curse is amazing!!! Frank Peretti definetly did his research. This book has a stunning plot and it has you on the edge of your seat untill the very end. I have read this book five times and it has failed to bore me yet!
I must disagree with those who say that the teasing was not portrayed acurately in this book. In fact, I have witnessed the same physiacal abuse(somone getting physicaly beaten up) in high school just this year(2004). The gothic people were described correctly also. I recommend this book to everyone!!!

Summary: No regrets!
Review: What can I say...if it has Frank Peretti's name on it, it's going to be an excellent book! I checked this one out from my church library, and I was not disappointed. Having had reluctance at first to read it since I was pretty sure it was directed more at high schoolers, and I'm a little bit older, I went ahead and checked it out finally and am very glad I did. It's an excellent story with a great mystery behind it that I never would have guessed the solution to. It kept me on my toes until the very end, and, as I tend to prefer in Christian literature, had a strong moral ending which we could all learn from. Once again, my hat goes off to Frank Peretti.

Summary: What An Awesome Story
Review: Frank Peretti is such a master at Christian fiction. This novel covers a lot of topics all at once: bullies, anger, revenge, hate, tolerance, social classes, and love.

Baker High School could be any high school today. It is this fact that makes this novel about bullying and the devastation that can come from it so appealing to the avid reader. Elijah and Elisha are two amazing kids, determined to find the cause of a mysterious illness affecting students at the school. Without giving away the plot, I can tell you that it kept me guessing until the end.

This novel is great for all ages, and the great thing is - there's a sequel out there! Nightmare Academy. Buy them both; you will love them!

Summary: Peretti does it again
Review: Once again I found myself humbled. I was anxiously awaiting this book, and then I found out it was for teens... YUCK! The book buyer in the store stopped me and said, "Wolfe, we've had adults who said this book scared the pants off of them!" So you take a look at the cover. Interesting. Then you get into the book. Oh yeah!

Meet the Springfield family and the twins, Elijah and Elisha, the whole family better known as The Veritas Project, veritas is latin for the word truth (which yes, I learned in the book, so I learned something new) and they help the FBI. In this book you enter a world of hate, fear, and rejection. This book came out after Peretti's touching, "The Wounded Spirit" and it is right on cue. This book at times scared the poo-poo out me and was a page turner. I can honestly say that it doesn't hold much of a candle to the "Darkness" books, but it is classic Peretti, and it is certainly a 5 star book. Why do I say this? Because the darkness books were primarily spiritual warfare, while this book centered around bullying. There was one part in the book that deals with spiders and I was wrestling with myself whether or not to turn the page! This is what makes Peretti a master of an author, and that is why he is one of my favorite authors!

I would recommend this book to people between age of 10 to zillion, and I think anyone, and I mean ANYONE would enjoy this book.

Summary: Hangman's Curse
Review: Summary: This book is about a family of four people who go and investigate on a case about kids going to the hospital for unknown reasons at a school called Baker High. The first student to have a hallucinogen was the school's star quarterback named Jim Boltz. He was playing in a football game and he saw a ghost sitting on the goal posts with a bird sitting on his shoulder. He was very nervous, but had to call a play. He called a play and took the snap. This was a big play and Jim had to come up big on this one. He dropped back and looked to pass to the open receiver, and saw the ghost coming straight toward him. He ran the other way, faster and faster, toward the other team's end zone. He fell down and passed out. The next thing he knew, he was lying in the hospital bed, crazy. This really got the school wondering what happened. They got a team of private investigators to go after this one. It consisted of two teenage twins: Elijah and Elisha, their dad, Nate, and their mom, Sarah. They went to investigate this case. When they arrived at the school, Elijah and Elisha enrolled as students at Baker High, and Nate signed up to be a janitor at the school. While they were at the school, they learned more and more about the case. Also, more kids got cursed and had hallucinogens of the ghost. There is one kid in the school, Ian Snyder, who was really into witchcraft and cursing people. Elijah had to become friends with this kid, and quickly, before this happened to anymore people. After many discussions, Elijah figured out that he told the ghost, named Abel Frye, to go after people. He told Elijah that he just chanted the person's name over and over until the ghost would finally go away and send out a curse for those people. They also found another kid, Norman, who was into witchcraft, and was another suspect, as well. When Elijah got to talk to him, he figured out that he was the one who sent out the curses on the people. Also, they put a sign of a hanging man on the person's locker in advance, to show that Abel Frye would curse them. It turned out that it was a big coincidence that they were cursing the same people, so Ian thought that he was cursing them. When Abel Frye killed two people that Ian did not hate, he knew there was something wrong. He should've known that he was not really the one sending out the curses, but it was Norman. Now that I am near the ending of the book, I will not go on, or I will give away what happens with Abel Frye and if he kills anyone else, or if they find out the cause of this.

Recommendations: I would recommend this book to people who like mysteries and like a lot of detail and action in their books. This book is good for teenagers, ages 13-15, and it is good for either a boy or girl because there are boy and girl characters. If you enjoy mysteries and see this book on a library shelf, take it out and enjoy every last page of it.

Review: I liked how Peretti kept you guessing what was going to happen next, and guessing what the characters would do next. I liked how the author put a lot of detail. As soon as one event happened, (someone died) something else would happen, and I would get in to a new event. It is a book that you can't put down.
