Summary: Poetic up to the end.
Review: This book has wonderful lyrical lines and heart wrenching characters but they also seem to iritate at times. Several characters just seemed rather angry and tired of being where they were and even after terrible things continued to happen, they remained and were misserable. The story, however, was easy to relate to, being from the bible belt of the United States and pulled at my heart strings. You will live to get to the end of this book and then be tormrnted at the main characters decission to stay

Summary: WONDERFUL!
Review: Wonderful book: provocative, stunning portrayal of the uniqueness of each one of us in a world diverse in religion, beliefs, etc. Wonderful, the story came full circle where the urge to reread at least the first chapter was very strong

Summary: Believeabe, fascinating and though provoking!
Review: I have no doubt that cults exist in every state in the union. Many people make the mistake of confusing charisma for leadership potential. This book explores the dynamics within the cult so that the reader is left with more understanding for the cult members' behaviors. Surely, no one having read this book could be so judgemental of those actions or unaware of the incredible strength and intelligence required to walk away from it -- especially if one had grown up in the cult and never developed any perspective of the world outside that cult's power

Summary: I love this book.....don't miss it!
Review: This was one of the best books I've read. It was farely tedious at first, but I tend to cheat and look ahead to the middle or the end, and what I saw kept me from abandonig it. I know, it's a bad reason to stay with a book, but hey no one got hurt! So, if you read this book (which I fully reccomend you do), don't give up on it. It gets better

Summary: I related, read...and understood
Review: This was a wonderful book. Being a southern woman with strong family roots in the backwoods of Alabama, I could relate to the way Nina was raised. The short -- but very satisfying -- ending was itself worth the read. I would highly recommend this book to all

Summary: You mean there's a religious group worse than the Baptists?
Review: As a recovering Baptist, I must comment on this book. Rapture is an important book in that it gives us all pause to check our own lives, religions, etc. to see where we are intolerant and where we are inflicting pain on future generations

Summary: Richly layered and thought provoking
Review: Whew! This book grabbed my attention immediately. The story was so richly woven around me as I read, and I quickly became immersed in Ninah's life and the lives of those who influenced her, particularly her grandmother. Just a case in point that one overly zealous person can be the undoing of a sect of people if they allow themselves to be immersed in that belief system. I was so hoping that Ninah would, in fact, be instrumental in a "community wake-up call", so to speak. I hardly anticipated the ending, which was a pleasant surprise but left me wanting for more. MORE! MORE

Summary: Who will save your soul?
Review: This book was truly wonderful, yet almost unbelievable. A young girl, sheltered from the "real" world, is forced to realize that HER way of life may not be ALL there is to life...and that, perhaps, Grandpa Herman does not know everything. Ninah's life is a completely unique one

Summary: Truly Rapturous!
Review: One of those "cant put it down until you are done with it" books. NOT for the highly fundamentalist crowd, tho

Summary: Be prepared to turn the book over and read it over and over.
Review: This novel is not bound by time, place, or racial preconceptions.
The characters could be anyone, in fact are everyone of us.

Nana is the port of sanity in a sea of ludicrous activity.
And a child comes to deliver us from the "sins" we've all too often committed.

Think you've finished the book when you reach the last page?
Be prepared to turn the book over and read it again -- and again
