Summary: A really good read. I could have read it all night.
Review: The language and topic were captivating. I will probably read it again. The sadness was bittersweet. Although I wish things could have turned out differently, I know the story would not have been the same.

Summary: Wonderful!
Review: Powerful stuff. Imaginative story line. Excellent character development. The only dissapointment is the story ends evenutally! This book has stayed with me after 3 weeks of reading it. It's a must buy.

Summary: Emotionally Wrenching & Ultimately Life-Changing
Review: Sheri reynolds is a miracle. By bringing Ninah Huff into my life, she changed it forever. She made me appreciate my family & be forever grateful for them. She made me appreciate my place as a young mother, made me realize how easily that chance could've been taken away from me. Most of all, she made me spiritual. Although much of the novel is about horrifying religious practices, it ultimately reaffirmed my belief in God. This is a book about miracles. Most of all, this book IS a miracle. I'm glad I discovered it, because it helped me discover a part of myself.

Summary: Absolutely stunning
Review: I read all night until I finished, totally enthralled. A fabulous book. Same effect on me as "Beloved" ... what a masterpiece.

Summary: Captivating and Original
Review: I picked this book up from my Mom who is reading it for book club and I found it impossible to put down. Sheri Reynolds does a fantastic job of taking a common palce theme (A girl coming of age) and breathing new life into it. The fictional comunity of "Fire and Brimstone" was so well writen that it is easy to forget that the setting is really the the '90's and not the Middle Ages. The characters are intriging and very belivable. I especially liked Ninah and her Grandmother who are both exelant examples of women full of both strengh and weaknesses. Sheri Reynolds went to great lenghs to research book and make it accurate. My favorite aspect is the symboolism (the weaving) and the occasional humour. Althogh some people might object, I personally think this should be required reading in high school. Or maybe a movie.

Summary: A Wonderful book great for ANYONE!
Review: I'm 14 years old and I read this book last winter. I finished it in a bout 4 days. I sould hardly put it down. The way Nina is so attached to James and her hurt. Sheri Reynolds did a GREAT job expressing the emotions of Nina. So tragic, you can't wait to see what will happen next! I also reccomend Bitterroot Landing by Sheri Reynolds, it's a little out there, but it's a good book. If you read the Rapture of Canaan, you'll be hooked!! I recomend you buy this one!

Summary: What a book!
Review: I looked at the cover of this book and was immediately awestruck! The cover in Australia is different to the one shown above and all I can say is what a pity you can't see it! From the structured way the girl's face is painted to the almost Virginal-Mary way she stands with the baby in her arms this cover is the best I have ever seen. But don't they tell you to never judge a book by its cover? Well let me tell you they're wrong here. This is extraordinary. Never once does Reynolds preach to us in telling her story which I would imagine must have been one of the hardest things to do. I love the characters by the end, even the poor ol' misguided grandpa figure. From the opening sentence to the very last paragraph where she separates her tiny baby's hands I was enthralled. We are lucky Downunder that Oprah selected this book, otherwise an extraordinary author in Miss Reynolds would have gone completely unnoticed, unimagined and unheard.

Summary: unique insight into a curious world
Review: I felt for the star of the book. It depicts the saying "the blind leading the blind." I couldn't put it down. I reccommend this book.

Summary: So true to life!
Review: I read this book in two days. I just couldn't put it down. When I was younger my family was involved in a church with many similarities to the one in The Rapture of Canaan. That helped to make the book so believable for me. I loved the ending, and the lessons the characters learn along the way. Thigs like this really do take place, and it is wonderful that Sheri Reynolds decided to bring it to our attention.
