Summary: Captivating!
Review: If you attend church anywhere, any denomination you can relate to this poignant tale of growing up 'religious'. I laughed, cried and felt compelled to do a reality check of my own religous convictions. Recommended Reading!!!!!!!!!

Summary: amazing..
Review: I am in an American lit. class and had to read this book among many others from the Oprah Book Club. This one was my absolute favorite! I laughed and cried throughout it. I can relate to Ninah and feel for her, she reminds me of myself! I always like it when I can read a novel and begin to understand things about myself and my actions and that I am not the only person who thinks and acts that way. Ninah is truely a liberating charachter!

Summary: A real page turner....couldn't put it down!
Review: I, like many others, can sometimes find a book and be unable to put it down. The Rapture of Canaan was one of those books. From the moment my English class recieved them, the whole class was enthralled with the story of Ninah, and her struggles with life. I began to feel for Ninah, and to understand about how religion can sometimes control ones life or community. Her love for James was so pure and uninhibited. I could tell from the beginning of the book that the love that they shared was against every rule of the community, but they didn't care. The only thing that I found that disturbed me about this book was the fact that James commited suicide. I felt that he chickened out...Ninah held strong though, for her baby, and for James. She had such strength and courage, and for that I admire her. She has the qualities that many people lack these days, even if she is a fictional character. I admire her courage and the fact that she stood up for what she believed in. This was without a doubt the best book that I have read in a real long time...like my fellow Londonderry friend said, 100 more pages would have excited and thrilled us....I definetly recommend this book to every high school class...it's a real eye opener!!

Summary: I love this story!
Review: This book is one of my favorites I love the way the emotions were set, love, lust, saddness, and wonder. I read this book with a passion, I read it so fast, I can hardly believe that The Rapture of Canaan is already over. There was a neat way of how the auther tied in Ninahs spirituality, into the way she thought, I think that this is a good book for anyone. This is a book that ties in Romance, Thrill, Adventure, & has a wide range of Dramatic events, do youself a favor and read the book ASAP!

Summary: Breathtaking!
Review: What a book! I had it read in less than one and a half days and that is because I had to work. Even today I have some of the mixed up feelings that Ninah had about religion, sex, politics, family, and relationships. Sheri Reynolds put me in Ninah's shoes (or if you will Ninah was put in mine). I wish I could have read this book as a teenager to help me realize that I am not the only one that has gone through obstacles in life. I didn't want to put the book down it had me so wrapped up that I soon thought I was in love with James. What a life Ninah lived.... She represents the troubles that we all have at some times and helped me to realize that my life to is an exciting " book", worth re-reading over and over. Talk about a lesson in life. Great job Sheri Reynolds!
