Rating: Summary: Better than watching TV; Not as good as going to Church Review: Those who pick these books up with the expectation of becoming experts on the Biblical "end of the ages" will find that they come up a little short; the novels are quite well written and incorporate the Bible quite well into the story, but remember: this stuff is, after all, just fiction. The Bible itself says that no one will really know what's going to happen exactly until it actually happens. What this series does do, however, is provide a very entertaining, readable, "what if?" that will take Biblical interpretations and put them in a context that serves two purposes, as I see it: 1) advance the authors' religious views, and 2)provide fun reading. If you are a Christian, these books will give you real chills. If you are not, they will most certainly cause you to pause and wonder, "what if...?". If you are undecided, well, they are good entertainment, but hey, if you really wanna know, you'd probably oughta just read the Bible (a good readable version of Revelation with footnotes is my suggestion). WARNING: I picked the first one up and couldn't put it down...it ate up most of two days of my free time.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Books Review: I have read the first four books in this series and I think they are all wonderful so far. I started the first book at the beginning of December and just finished the fourth last night, it is hard to not want to jump right into the next one when you finish. I have read so many negative reviews on here, talking about how the books are poorly written, have no Christian merrit and so on. I have read the book of Revelations, and I see the writers of these books writing what Revelations says. They do repeat over and over that it is meant to be taken literally from Revelations and that is exactly what they did. When one reads this book they must understand that it is fiction, the authors are writing a story, and including the Bible in it. I can't think of a better way to get His word out to people that might otherwise never want to hear it. Once someone reads books like this I don't see how they won't want to find out for themselves what the Bible means. Also remember the same passage of scripture will mean something different to two different people.
Rating: Summary: Best ever Review: The Left Behind Series are the best collectoin I've ever read.I am a beleiver who has always been a big chicken when it came to reading Revelations. These books have been a way of getting into Revelatoins without the scariness I once felt.I have read opinions of some who call these books a fairy tale but growing up in the Church of God it is as I was taught. Many thanks to the authors for these books.
Rating: Summary: Good books, great message Review: No matter if you're a Christian or not, the Left Behind series is an entertaining read with a powerful message. The writing may not be the best you've ever read (I mean, it's not exactly Mark Twain or Jack London), but it IS a good read. My husband and I have poured through these books, and we can't wait until the next installment is released. It's a work of fiction, so we don't regard the books as absolute biblical truth, but it does challenge us to seek the truth, and it challenges us to live our lives as though we might not be here tomorrow. Basically, if you're going to read these books, you can expect an entertaining story that puts some biblical priniciples into a present-day scenario. That's what makes it so interesting and fun to read.
Rating: Summary: DJZ Review: While I am not a Christian, I enjoyed every one of these books. I also enjoyed "The Indwelling". I agree that they are not the greatest books ever written. They are, however, very readable and entetaining. Sure, there are many coincideces, but hey, these are God's chosen! I have zipped through each book within 2 or 3 days. A sure sign that they are compelling. I haven't changed my religion, but I did enjoy these books on their merits. Even if you are not a religious person these books are enjoyable.
Rating: Summary: Wrong Beast? Review: It would have been better with the real beast: Ronald (6), Wilson (6), Reagan (6). He's going to shake this Alzheimer thing and he's coming to get ya! Actually -- many people are taking this entertainment excessively seriously. This is not an interpretation or 'decoding' of the biblical book Revelation -- read it for yourself and you'll see what I mean. This is series of books has no connection to what is written there. The person who wrote Revelation was using imagery common to superstitious astrologers. It was the time when the (so-called) age of Aries (the Ram or lamb) dies and the age of Pieces (the fish) began. All the prognosticators expected earthly events to reflect the 'end of age' events they saw in the stars. You see similar stories in ancient Norse myths about the end of the world (the beast from the pit and the 144.000). These new 'houses' of the zodiac go from one to another after a period of a little over 2,000 years. That organization of the sky made for a handy calendar - it's all very clever but it is still superstitious nonsense if you try to make it mean more than that. Please don't take mine, or anyone else's word for this - if this stuff really worries you - take some responsibility and at the very least, read Revelation for yourself. It's only a few pages. Wouldn't you have to agree that someone would be a fool or a liar if they read hundreds of pages of human authors but refuse to read even a few dozen pages of what they claim to believe to be God's word?
Rating: Summary: Great series, lousy price. Review: This is a great series for anyone to have. The individual books are first rate, but I see no reason to pay so much for the collection. If I could, I would give the books five stars but the price of the boxed set one star. Go figure the marketing people!
Rating: Summary: Great series - bad price Review: I highly recommend these books, but I can not think of any reason to buy them in a box set when it costs 15% more than purchasing them individually.
Rating: Summary: Great works of literature????? Give me a break! Review: As a Christian, it saddens me to see rave reviews of these amzingly ineptly written so-called "Christian novels." I have continued to plod on... through the improbable plots, cardboard characters, unrealistic dialogue and ludicrous series of coincidences...in an effort to come to some understanding of just *what it is* about these HORRID books that so many good people find compelling. I can only conclude that many are willing to overlook the abysmal level of writing simply because the series's message reinforces their preconceived beliefs about God's ultimate plans for humanity. Some have even praised the authors for bringing them to a clear understanding of scriptural passages they'd previously found difficult to interpret. Please!!! If the Almighty should decide to enlighten us further about these matters, I have to believe He would could find more capable spokesmen than LaHaye and Jenkins. Look at the power and poetry within the Bible, then compare it to this childish scribbling! And I'm sorry, but when a reviewer praises this as "best books I've ever read," I have to wonder: just what the others could have been.
Rating: Summary: The Left Behind Series Review: WOW! This is a great story. I first thought that the series would have a lot of "preaching", boy was I ever wrong. I've never been a religous person but this story will really make you think about what is to come and really make you take a good look at yourself and the way you live your life. Once you get started reading you can barely put it down. A book really has to be good from page one to hold my interest. After reading "Left Behind" I couldn't wait for "Tribualtion Force" to come in at the Library and so I went out and purchased it. The only bad thing about it is there are going to be 12 books in this series, and from what I understand only 2 books will be released a year. By the time the next book comes out you need to go back and refresh your memory. They are making a movie from this and is supposed to air the last of October.
