Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A must for anyone inmterested in the history of preaching.
Review: Given the monumental scope of the topic, Old makes the history of preaching interesting and managable. The book is as much a history of the use of the bible in church as it is a history of preaching. His methodology is classic. He takes the reader from Mt. Sinai through the prophets into the earliest days of the Christian Church. He traces the various kinds of preaching through the patristic era in both East and West. These two volumes should be mandatory reading in every seminary. As an Eastern Orthodox Priest, I found the first two volumes of this series extremely helpful and informative.
