Summary: Great Beginning. Great discussion of Justifcation.
Review: This book is worth it for the early discussion on the Catholic faith and then Dr. Schreck's discussion of Justification by faith and works. If you are like me, you might have a Protestant view of salvation. For me I could never quite reconcile this view with the book of James. If you are not quite sure of the Chhurch's position on faith, grace, works, salvation, etc., this book places it all in perspective and clearly explained. Th eother parts of the book were interesting, but not like the first third of the book.

Summary: Needs serious revision
Review: This book needs a serious revision. There are many current Catholic doctrines and practices that are not addressed (i.e. why no married priests in the midst of such a serious shortage?). I would not give this to a person considering becoming catholic or someone who has questions because current issues are not dealt with well.

Summary: One of the best apologetics works I have read, very fair
Review: This book will not offend the non-catholic like others may. Best overall explanation of misunderstood beliefs about the church I have read. Both Catholics and non-Catholics will benefit from this read. When I explain to my family and friends my reasons for converting, I usually refer to this book.

Summary: Catholic and Christian
Review: This is a wonderful apolgoetics text, a "must" for every serious Catholic. It is broken into basic categories, and contains references from Scripture, the early Church Fathers, and Church Councils, defending the core tenets of the Catholic Church. A study guide is also available. This is the next best thing to being at Franciscan University taking the Apologetics course with Dr. Schreck (which I was blessed to have done)!

Summary: Excellent book
Review: This is an excellent book for all Christians and non-Christians alike. It offers a brilliant and clear explanation of Catholic beliefs and how they are commonly misunderstood... if you're a Catholic questioning your faith or a Protestant who wants to know the truth about Catholic beliefs, READ THIS BOOK! Schreck is a godsend.

Summary: great book
Review: when father at my church gave this book to a friend of mine who is not a catholic, i was wondering a little about this book. i had a chance to read this book later and realized why he had given this book to my friend. it really explained the thorny issues very fairly. i could see that the author took very careful approach to not offend any non-catholics. i heartly think that this book is a great introduction to everyone who likes to know more about catholicism, non-believers, non-catholics, and catholics. i highly recommend this book. it won't make people defensive but rather it will make people think.
