Summary: As the Seasons Change
Review: In order to reach the masses, the preacher may have to come out of the pulpit and get their attention through different mediums. The dynamic preacher, teacher and best selling author, Bishop T.D. Jakes, takes delivering the Word to the next level in his fictional debut novel, Cover Girls. Get Ready! Get Ready! Get Ready! Get Ready! as the Cover Girls evolve in their seasons as they triumph and overcome pain, abuse, stress and fear.

Michelle is in the summer of her life. She is strong and she is a survivor. Past abuse has shaped her outlook on her current life. She has issues with trust and men. She feels she does not need friends, especially female friends. One persistent female helps her change her demeanor. Tonya is in the fall of her life. She has become settled and at peace with her life, however drab it is. Encouraged by her son and others she gradually makes changes and finds that happiness is not only internal, but she can also look good on the outside. Mrs. Judson is in the winter of her life. It looks like she has it all, but things could not be worse for her. She has an out-of- control granddaughter and a secret that could ruin her reputation and that of her family. With no support system and an unbeliever she thinks she is all alone. Miz Ida is living in the spring. Her strong shoulders bear the pain of those who do not know the goodness of the Lord. Her love of the Lord extends to the boarder babies to the drug addict sleeping in the doorway of her apartment building to Michelle. Her joy is seeing how her good works and prayer manifest in others.

Just as in his nonfiction works, Jakes delivers a powerful message in a simple and plain manner. Cover Girls is a road map for women that travel through lifes season. At one time or another they will experience a time in these seasons. Jakes gives some pointers as to how to overcome the situations that may arise. This is an admirable effort, good Christian Fiction reading!

Summary: I'll keep listening to him preach!!!
Review: It took me a while to read this book because I was afraid it wouldn't stand up as interesting, solid christian fiction. Unfortunately I was right. I love T.D. Jakes ministry and many of his messages have truly changed my character.

T.D. is not a good fiction writer however. The story line was run of the mill with predictable characters and predictable story lines. Parts of the book read as though T.D. Jakes reverted to sermon writing rather that fiction.

I hope he'll stick to writing the life-changing inspirational sermons and inspirational novels so that people's hard earned money will be well spent on a book bearing his name.

Many other christian fiction writers do it better. Stick to spending your money on their books for fiction and on T.D. Jakes for inspirational nonfiction reads.

Summary: Keeps getting better
Review: Many of the Non-Fiction books by Jakes are redundant. Cover Girls is phenonmenal when a man writes so well about woman and relationships. The book is great for book clubs.

Summary: Wonderful novel
Review: Michelle, Tonya and Mrs. Judson are so very different yet they are all searching for the same thing a resolution.

Michelle is a young woman trying to find her way in life. On the outside it seems that she has it together but there is a battle going on within her. Too afraid to trust she truly believes that all she has in life is herself. But she has some people praying for her.

Tonya is a praying woman. Like Job, everything she has ever had has been taken away.
But her faith in God never waivers. Unfortunately her faith in herself is where her problem lies. She has to realize that when God sends us an answer, doesn't always come from where we expect it.

Mrs. Judson is a woman who is in control. Whether it is on her job or in her home she has to be the one calling the shots. When something causes her to realize that her perfect life isn't really perfect she finds out who is really in control of her life.

People come into our lives for reasons or seasons. In Bishop Jakes, Cover Girls, the three main characters have direct a direct impact on each other's lives and they don't even realize it. We learn that God always has what we need we just have to learn how to accept it.

Summary: Quick! Somebody Turn Off The Lights So I Can Go To Sleep!
Review: Mr. Jakes is a great motivator! No one can take that away from him. But a fiction novelist he is not! This is one boring book! I just simply could not get into this book. I've tried, for the sake of the author, but I just could not. Now I'm wondering if he really wrote it (with his busy schedule and all). Let's just say that maybe--perhaps--just perhaps, a ghost writer could have written this story. If Jakes, however, did in fact write it, he's probably embarrassed about it. Too late. You can't take it back because it's been published. But the beauty of it is that it can be revised and re-edited in a second printing. I wish I had gotten it from the library instead of buying it. Another thing. The cover was pretty provocative for a Christian fiction, don't you think?

Summary: OH No!! TRY AGAIN!!
Review: No no no no noooooo. This was the worst fictional novel i have ever read. It was torture just to get through the first few chapters. I couldnt finish it. The characters were so boring and undeveloped. Whoever wrote this or helped Jakes write this needs a lot of help in character development, plot development, story lines etc etc. I am so particular about the christian books i choose to read, and was very upset when i wasted my money on this.

Summary: Wonderful
Review: Problems do not differentiate between class and culture. The boss is just as likely to have them as the worker, and the person with the answer might not always be the one who appears to have it all.

This is the case as the lives of several divergent women intersect and they discover hope and understanding crossing lines of race, class, and position. A rich woman finds friendship and hope with women she believed beneath her, and wisdom is found in unexpected places.

**** I hope this is the beginning of a new career for Bishop Jakes, packaging his misinterpretatations of the Bible in fictional form, thereby diluting their potential harm. Although there are several positive messages conveyed, there is at least one misuse of Biblical terms that might be applicable to his story, but could be dangerous if used in a more factual sense.

Summary: Seasons of Life
Review: T.D. Jakes bursts on to the Christian Fiction scene, with his first novel, COVER GIRLS. In this book he likens the life of a woman to the four seasons. Spring being the time of youthful growth and nurturing, summer being the time emerging from the period nurturing and coming into full bloom as a young adult, fall being the period of harvest and rest, and finally winter, which is a time of waiting for new life to emerge. Each of the four main characters in the book represent one of the seasons in his analogy. Michelle is young, spirited and in the summer of her life, yet she is battered by a troubling past that continues to haunt her. Tonya is in the Fall of her life, but instead of enjoying this time she is always trying to please others while neglecting herself. Mrs. Judson, the only primary character that is not African American, is in the winter of her life. But instead of being at peace and waiting for new life to emerge, she is caught in a web of sorrow primarily due to her insatiable desire to appear "together." Miz Ida is also in the winter of her life, but as a result of her strong faith in God, she celebrates this stage of her life and looks forward to the many things that are yet to come. The characters lives intersect and in spite of their unlikely relationships with one another, each of them grow to new heights spiritually and personally.

T.D. Jakes is known by many for his prolific non-fiction writings on any number of Christian topics. With COVER GIRLS, his first novel, Jakes continues to establish himself as a writer whom everyone should take note of. He seamlessly integrates Biblical principles into real life situations that women can relate to, while keeping the reader engrossed in the lives of the characters. As a result, the novel is Christian Fiction at its best, filled with real life situations and everyday struggles. All of the characters are well-rounded, and they are made up of both the strengths and the flaws that make them inherently human. In this novel he demonstrates that all women, black or white, rich or poor, hip or reserved, share a common bond and common struggle with faith.

Summary: Edify Me Change My Mind
Review: T.D. Jakes is a motivational speaker, author of sixteen books and his latest Cover Girls. Cover Girls is an inspirational fiction read about changing our minds and believing. T.D.Jakes introduces us to Michelle, Tonya, Mrs. Judson and Miz Ida four women with very different issues and one commonality.
I was able to see myself and my season in each of the four women. Their story at some points were my own. I cried with Michelle, and Miz Ida many times while my head was shaking "oh no he didn't just write that." It was wonderful to follow them in their year of changing minds and changing seasons as they learned to balance life and believe in God.

I had no expectation of Cover Girls, but what I got was a well developed and believable story of beautifully thriving characters. His knowledge of the full gospel and story telling skills had me laughing, crying and never wanting to leave their world.

Just as an artist has a trademark, I deem Bishop Jakes trademark to be just as the cover of the book exhibits; A time to get naked and bloom red and pretty as a rose.

God Bless!
