Rating: Summary: Just like Usual, A Great Book! Review: I am a huge fan of Max. I have read many of his books, and this is my favorite one. I passed over it many times simply because I knew it was going to touch on some sensitive issues. When I finally bought it, I was so glad I did. It was exactly what I needed to hear, but put in a way that I didn't mind. I have read it twice, and I'm starting my third time around!
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: I was disappointed. I had heard good reviews from local christians, but the book was much more simplistic and less enlightening than I had expected. The ideas are simple, but he repeats them often enough to have the ideas sink in. For some, this may seem like manna. I was looking for more substance.
Rating: Summary: A Bit of a disappointment Review: I am a Max Lucado fan. I am also a Joe Beam fan. But I must say I was a bit disappointed in this book by Max. He was very general and seemed to repeat himself. Don't get me wrong, it is a descent book but Max's best was "No Wonder they Call Him the Savior" and "He Still Moves Stones."
Rating: Summary: Hard To Put Down, Good Second Time Around! Review: When I first heard about Max Lucado it was for his latest book "He Chose The Nails" (another great one!). But when I walked in the book store I ended up getting two books and neither was the book above. I got this book and When Christ Comes. I do not regret the day I did that. Max Lucado has now become my favorite author. I love the way he puts stories in his books to make you think, and this book is too good for words. I am using it as part of my devotional because my time is few. What I really loved about this book was how Max told us to listen to God and let God love US (not let us love God, there is a difference in that!). I never thought of it, and this got me thinking. This whole book will make you THINK! I mean talk about a "what would Jesus do?" book. This one would be up there with that kind of book. This book teaches you how to live like Jesus, and it shows you that God loves you, just for you but He wants you to change daily. Pick this up, you wont regret buying it and like me,it will be hard to put it down. And dont be suprised if you find yourself picking it back up again not too long once it is done. Good going Max Lucado! Truly a God Sent!
Rating: Summary: A touch on the surface. Review: I must admit that with every new book this author writes, the better his depth and subject matter. Although still basic in scope (which is why he has to write so much), he explains in layman's terms what his mission in life is. I personally like a thorough reading over the "super easy" which is why this book does not break the 4 barrier. It is a quick read if you're on a plane and need some closure while reading.
Rating: Summary: Max at his usual best Review: This is the first book I've ever read by Max Lucado. It won't be the last! If you are a new Christian, get this book! Max lays it on the line; Jesus loves you just as you are... but because of sin, He refuses to let you stay in your sin. Max's writing is truly anointed with the Spirit of truth! I challenge anyone to read this book and not be moved...
Rating: Summary: Read all of Lucado's books! Review: Max Lucado has a wonderful way of bringing the Bible to life! All of his books are well worth reading again and again. He uses his modern day experiences to explain Bible teachings which brings new understanding to the reader. This book Just Like Jesus is special to me because understanding Jesus and how God will change us to be more like him is a pivotal point of the Christian faith. Thanks for your service to the Lord, Mr. Lucado.
Rating: Summary: Lucado says what he wants Review: Reviewing a book such as this is tough. Lucado presents a heart warming philosophy. More of us should adopt it. However, Lucado tends to focus on what he wants. Using scripture to inforce what he is saying, ignoring either verses that counter his point or arrogantly misquoting scripture. Either way you can find books that are truer to scripture and more satisfying also.
Rating: Summary: Lightweight, fluffy, devotional Review: For a title "Just Like Jesus" this book should have contained 80% solid theology, 20% devotional practical application. In fact it is just the reverse, and Lucado, whether accidentaly or by design, makes some poor theological inferences. There are some endearing things, that along devotional lines will warm your heart. But overall, there are far better works to read if you truly want to know Christ, and be just like Him.
Rating: Summary: If you want to start acting Just Like Jesus, read this book! Review: Wonderful book! God bless Mr. Lucado for his gentle, funny and very, very inspired way to present the Word of God. I read this book while traveling to work (for about a week) and people would look at me when I started laughing. They way Mr. Lucado explains and gives real life examples of how Jesus acted in every day situations is funny and entertaining, while teaching exactly what we need to know to improve the way we conduct ourselves to affect others and make them wonder what makes us act the way we do. This book thought me how to treat the people I dislike the most, as well as the people that surround me (including my husband!). The results? After I started acting (or at least trying, because we can never be exactly like Him) like Jesus would act in every situation that I confronted in my home, office, on the train, etc., things started to change! Because the attitude of other people changes when you start acting.. "Just Like Jesus..."
