Summary: Hmm..it seems you either love this or hate it
Review: I thought it was worthwhile, I do see what others mean when they mention that there are only a few key truths, buried under lots of words...but those truths are good ones. I confess, I skipped right to the last chapters, and no, it doesn't give "answers" on how to solve problems, but it helped me to see my heart more clearly, and how I have contributed to our problems. I have read a few books by Allender & Longman, and it is a somewhat awkward arrangement (having 2 authors with pretty different styles). But if you can overlook the faults, this is an insightful book.

Summary: Don't waste your time
Review: Please do not waste your time with this book. I'm sorry to speak so strongly, but this was truly a massive waste of my time.

First, the reader from Kansas is absolutely correct: this book could have been reduced to a pamphlet. Every chapter consists of a couple of vague thoughts that are repeated with fluffy padding over and over and over again ad nauseam. It's the equivalent of people who enjoy the sound of their voice too much, but the print version.

Also, the only value of this book is for people who don't actually have any real problems in their marriage. Unfortunately, those people don't need to waste their time because they don't have any problems. If you have any real struggles, this book will have little to nothing to offer you.

I read this book as part of a couple's discussion group, and I can honestly say there are few books I regret reading more. I haven't read any of their other books, but I will admit they have good titles and sound interesting, but they better be a lot more substantive than this one to be worth trying.

Summary: Don't waste your time
Review: This Book is powerful and dissruptive. If you are afraid of looking at your own heart and motives, stay away. If you are looking for easy behavioral steps, don't read it. On the other hand, if you want to make your HEART available to the mysterious work of God in deeply changing you, by all means, this book is for you. The illustrations and stories paint pictures that will impact and disturb you, if your heart is open.

Summary: Too fluffy
Review: While there are gems of truth hidden in this book, they are mostly hidden under fluffy sayings. The authors could have said the same things much more to the point.

Summary: If You Want A Good Marriage Book, Look Elsewhere
Review: Yes, this book does have some good truth in it. In fact, all of that truth could be printed on one or two pages instead of the 364 that are contained in the book. It is the equivalent of looking through the trash to find your dinner.

I am not sure who benefits from this book. However, it is not suitable material for regular people. It is best left to professional marriage therapist who enjoy diagnosing strange scenarios.

For Christian individuals seeking a good marriage book, try a more mainline author such as Dennis Rainey or James Dobson.
