Summary: The Spirit of God pervades this whole book
Review: I am someone who will be heading to seminary in a few months. I've been asking God to give me a vision fow what He wants me to do with my life and what He wants me to do in my future ministries. After reading this book, I believe that God has shown what He want me to do for His Glory and His Kingdom. Praise God!

Summary: Prayer: A Top Priority
Review: After reading this book, I am no longer satisified with routine prayers. This book will remind and teach you that as believers in Christ, our powersource is prayer. Without it, evangelism, ministry, and the survival of the Church does even stand a chance.

Summary: Nothing else like it!
Review: Never read a book like this. It will change your outlook on most everything in life.

Summary: This book will drive you to your knees
Review: I don't know when a book has impacted my life more. It was difficult to finish a chapter without feeling driven to pray. Cymbala shreds most of the ideas which are being touted to promote church growth and replaces these with the convicting and life changing power of prayer. Any one can benefit from this book. A theology student will be chalenged by some of the deep insight Cymbala pours out. At the same time, the teenagers in my Sunday School class are visibly moved by the heart-rending stories of lives transformed through the power of the Holy Spirit, who refashions completely broken people into passionate disciples of Christ's commission, only because a servant of Jesus interceded the throne of God on their behalf.

Summary: A "MUST READ" for anyone seeking a total commitment to God !
Review: This book set our group on fire for the Lord!!! We have been experiencing many of the situations that are discussed in this book. One of the most stirring comments was that many churches are following the ABC's (attendance, building, and cash). If churchgoers are asked how their church is getting along, many usually discuss how much attendance has gone up, how many buildings have been erected or renovations have been made, and how much they have monetarily. Reverend Cymbala exhorts us to put prayer back in the fore-front of worship and not to worry so much about rituals and formats, but to pray unceasingly for the lost souls and to feed the sheep. He also urges us to seek to look at the heart as God sees and not at the outward appearance as man sees! If pastors would follow the principles discussed in this book, we would see a different America. If you love your church and your pastor, give him/her this book as a gift today, and pray the Lord will use it to start a revival in the hearts of His people everywhere!

Summary: Is 5 stars as high as I can go?
Review: This was the most important book I read last year. Pastor Cymbala balances details about his work in Brooklyn as well as guiding principles. Outstanding!

Summary: This book has deepened my committment to prayer and worship!

Summary: Inspiring, challenging and convicting on the topic of prayer
Review: This book shows that we have made God too small in our eyes! We forget that we pray to the same God who brought down Goliath, parted the Red Sea, healed the sick and lame, raised Jesus from the dead conquering sin and death and poured out his Spirit on the church at Pentecost. My favorite chapter is "The Day Jesus Got Mad" -- when Jesus cleared the temple in outrage it was because His house is to be a house of prayer. We too, have made it a den of robbers - we rob people of the opportunity to pray when we overprogram our services. And we rob God of the opportunity to bless His people through their prayers. This book is a great read!

Summary: Prayer + Holiness + Love= God's Power & Provision
Review: So many churches are being forced to compromise their message, change their methods and even entertain their congregation to get and keep people in the church. Not Jim Cymbala. He has demonstrated that if we pray to God with our whole heart and step out in faith He will be moved to help His people. God has promised it. I was moved by the numerous "down'n'outers" (virtually in the gutter) who became Christian disciples because his services and prayer meetings were true places of worship not something put on or drummed up. This book sits next to Rick Warren's, Purpose Driven Church and the biographies of George Mueller and others who did the unthinkable for God just because they were willing to be uncompromisingly Biblical, while resisting the "established" "we always did it this way" of others. If you want the inspiration and motivation to make a difference for Christ, this book is it.

Summary: No challenge too great for a people wholly dependent on God!
Review: Take an impossible situation and an improbable call, but rely on an incomprehensible God and you have the basis for a great story, This is how I felt as I read this book. With such a focus on doing theings in a new way, here is a people who go back to the basics and make the pleasure of God and pleasure in God their priority and passion.

Each chapter is bulging with encouraging and touching examples of human frailty and God's faithfulness. Parishioners woud do themselves a favor to get two copies of this book. One for themselves and one for their pastor.
