Summary: Respone to "A reader , February 28, 1997"
Review: A reader was seeking the source of this book's dedication, pulled from Ecclesiasticus 6:14.

Ecclesiasticus is a book in the apocrypha, which consists of 15 books that were accepted as biblical by the early Church and were quoted as Scripture by many early Christian writers.

Summary: Max Lucado is Brilliant!
Review: God Came Near is a book that you will read again and again. God does come near. Closer than you would ever imagine. Max Lucado is by far the BEST Christian author of our time. He brings Jesus into your heart and into your life in such a clear and concise way. God has blessed Max with the ability to share God's love through his writing and wisdom. I have almost every one of his books and never tire of reading a Max Lucado book.

Summary: Style but no substance
Review: I had seen Max Lucado on Larry King, so I picked up this book. It was disappointing. Yes, it changed my thinking. But only for a few minutes. There was nothing in the book that really "stuck to my ribs" spiritually. The book did not encourage me to dig in the Word or to make changes in my life. I don't plan on reading any more books by Max Lucado.

Summary: Awesome -- A real Eye-Opener
Review: I read "God Came Near" in nearly no time at all. Max Lucado's books, especially this one, show the way to Christ. In reading this book I finally realized that Jesus was a human just like the rest of us and He knows what we feel and the struggles we endure from first-hand experiences. This book was wonderful and I recommend it to anyone seeking Jesus.

Summary: Caused me to fall deeper in love with Jesus.
Review: I think I've bought and given away at least 20 copies of this book. I enjoyed God Came Near so much that it inspired me to become a writer. Now I, too, write for and about Jesus. This particular book is my favorite of all Max's books even though I think it is his first one (first one I read anyway). It ignited me and is why I set pen to paper (fingers to keyboard?) and wrote Love's Face (a book about Jesus--our Great Bridegroom. Max is, of course, THE master Word-crafter of our day (imho) -- I love his writing and have tried to emulate him. Max, I hope you read this. Bless you for the way you've made Jesus so real in my life and in many thousands of others--and brought him so wonderfully and profoundly close to us. Margaret Montreuil/Living Waters Publishing.

Summary: Not as hyped as other reviews
Review: It seems that others rave on this review board about 'God Came Near', but I believe it is because Christians believe that almost everything having to do remotely with Jesus is "good". I wish the "sheep" would only realized that Max Lucado gives a heavily altered and quite perverse perception of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. I find this book offensive, and not worth purchasing. I pray that this book is not purchased to feed the Christian Parrott. It is not worth your time to make a difference in other's lives.

Now, onto the literary aspects of the book- Lucado is not revolutionary. His attempts to present himself as a poet are futile, as his line-by-line simplistic statements and far-fetched allegories make this book almost unbearable to concentrate on his vile content.

In conclusion, it is quite hard to look for inspiration from this book when one twists the Holy One's image into such a creature.

As an alternative for inspiration, I recommend "A Child Called It" by David L. Pelzer. It is such an amazing true story that can inspire anyone to appreciate the blessed life you live.

Summary: This book is incredible
Review: Lucado's writing is so moving. I am thankful that he is a Christian and put his amazing talent for writing for use for Christ. I couldn't recommend this book more highly. I like the way the chapters are broken down. It is very easy to read and I enjoyed every word of it.
