Rating: Summary: A book for those who have struggled. Review: Allow me to say upfront that this book is fantastic. As one addicted to sexual internet content, this book has given me hope. In it, Russel Willingham combines biblical principles on sex and on the freedom we can have in Christ with psychological theories about the nature, causes, and solutions for addiction. He explains in this book how to know one is addicted, the importance of understanding the causes of the addiction, and several key components to overcoming, such as healthy friendships with others of the same gender, accountability, and a healthy and accurate view of God. For anyone who just can't seem to quit, this book would be a great help.
Rating: Summary: This could be the best book in the world... Review: but it is fiction. Lately everything has become an addiction, but there are no physically addictive substances involved in sex. Yes, it may be a compulsion, but anything that stimulates us in as many ways as sex does would be. We were made to enjoy sex, and our body functions best is we enjoy it regularly. I've never heard of anyone losing their job, or having their happy home destroyed by sex. Nobody dies from sex. Smoking, drinking, heroin, these are addictions. Sex is just good clean (or dirty) fun.
Rating: Summary: CALLING ALL MEN! Review: Countless Men struggle in sexual sin...And those who do not...Well, do you? "Breaking Free" explores several aspects in finding the core roots to where 'our' addiction comes from. It has helped me in immense ways in recovering my own addiction. The author goes beyond just 'practical' ways we can hope to recover, in which some can relate to, ie. more praying, more...holy stuff. Also, the author uses several examples, in which more than one time you will find yourself saying "That's me!" Furthermore, he affirms that not just 'praying, and reading more books, and scripture' are going to heal us. But it will require a true relationship between 'us' and God, in which God will work through others as well, to attain genuine recovery. Also admitting that the book itself is not the true way. It's a great read. I recommend reading it, then passing it on to a good friend.

Rating: Summary: Compelling, Excellent, Encouraging... Review: Having struggled with sexual addiction for several years, I have read several books on the subject. The books by Patrick Carnes were good in understanding the addiction from a psychological point of view, but didn't have any steps to proactively lead me to recovery. This book, however, helped me to form a relationship with God and understand much more about how much God actually loves me, despite all of my sins. The book describes a path to recovery by analyzing addiction from both a psychological and Christian perspective, and gives a set of "Essentials" for overcoming the addiction. I expect to read this book over and over.
Rating: Summary: Best of the books I have read on the subject Review: Having struggled with sexual addiction for several years, I have read several books on the subject. Rating: Summary: Is sex causing problems in your life? Review: I wrote this book for one reason: to help men who are sexually compulsive. For years I have worked full-time with those trapped in pornography, masturbation or compulsive relationships. These are all men who want to stop, but feel incapable of doing so. What qualifies me to help them? One thing, I have walked in their shoes. I grew up in a sexually addicted home and began emulating what I saw at the age of seven or eight. I have struggled ever since. The good news is that I have stumbled onto some life-changing principles that are helping me to not only live a life of "sexual sobriety" but thrive as a sexual and spiritual person. What I share in the book is not your typical twelve step approach to recovery (as helpful as that is), but a comprehensive way of looking at relationships from a decidedly Christian standpoint. If the word "Christian" throws you, it doesn't have to. I don't cram the Bible down anyone's throat, but I also don't buy into the "anything goes" school of sexuality. This isn't helping anybody, especially the sexual compulsive! What you WILL find in the book is a very candid presentation of what works and what doesn't. If you are ready to read something that avoids the shallow answers of the religious right as well as the wishy-washy inconsistencies of our culture then this book is for you.
Rating: Summary: Compelling, Excellent, Encouraging... Review: I'm a homosexual sex addict who also loves and desires to live my life for Jesus... In the last two years, I've come out and asked for help from my friends and family, and it's been a hard but very good journey. While this book does not specifically address homosexuality (try anything by Andy Comiskey - amazing stuff), it is the best book I've read on the subject of sexual addiction. I recommend it to anyone who struggles with sexual or relational brokenness of any kind.
Rating: Summary: A book for those who have struggled. Review: If you've ever struggled with sexual addiction or porn addiction, this book is a MUST. I've read other books that go into detail about the relational and spiritual consequences of this addiction: how it destroys marriages and families, grieves the Holy Spirit, etc. But unless you really know what you're dealing with, you can have full realization of all these consequences and still be defeated in your struggle every time. This is the first book I've seen that talks about the root of sexual addiction, and how to let Jesus get in and rip it out. Awesome.
