Rating: Summary: Jesus freaks Review: While "Jesus Freaks" is a important book worth reading it is not the best book on the subject. I preffered "Catholic Martyrs of the Twentieth Century" by Robert Royal because it gave a much more detailed account of the lives of each martyr. This book contains many stories of people who have suffered beating, imprisionment and even horrable deaths rather than renounce Jesus as thier Savior. While many of the stories are moving and tell of incredable faith, I wanted to know more about that individual. Most of the stories in this book are between 1 and 3 pages long some are little more than a paragraph with a name and how they died for thier belife. I felt like I wanted to know these brave individuals better. How did they wind up where they were? What or who lead them to thier courage in Christ? What kind of backround did they come from' Rich poor? Religous secualar? sometimes these questions are answed sometimes they can be summized other times the reader is left to wonder. I also would have liked more footnotes and supporting evidence on some of the stories (of course the nature of the martydom doesn't always allow this) The list of countries and their current level of abuse in the back of this book is a nice touch as are the refferals on where to find more infomation and how you may be able to make difference. I felt thier was a slight but discerable anticatholic lean in this book though to be fair they do qoute Mother Terresa "Jesus is everything" ect.. all in all a good book that reminds us in the west that we should always try to remeber in our prayers and in our hearts those who are suffering and or dying for thier faith in Jesus.

Rating: Summary: Get Out Your Kleenex Review: This is the best book I have read in a long time. It is sad to know that people go thru this kinda stuff. However it makes you think. Rating: Summary: This book might freak you out! Review: What is a Jesus Freak?A Jesus Freak is a person who is prepared to lay down his or her life for a force which cannot be seen, but can most certainly be felt as can be seen through each and every one of these stories. I will admit that I never heard of this book before I bought it. I liked the look of the cover and this was right after I had become a more devout Christian so I was looking for whatever I could to strengthen my connection to God. This book stood out to me after I read a few of the stories and was touched by the simplicity of the stories, yet the emotions which each and every one brought forth. I will admit that some of the details are a bit much for me (yet I have a very weak stomach) but through it all it just helps you realize what people would go through for their faith. This book can be read a story at a time, or all in one sitting. It's great for all ages and those of all levels of faith. And let me tell you although I'm only about a third of the way through this book I'm already prepared to be a Jesus Freak!
Rating: Summary: Blood of innocents Review: When I read this book I was completely taken aback. I thought I was making sacrfices for God. When I read about they're life sacrifices. I had to ask myself:"if I were in their shoes would I have done the same?" They gave it all for God, thier money, thier happiness, everything, even thier lives. In a country such as this where we live where we're aloud to speak about our faith is so great. The people that are "Jesus Freaks" per se realize how important God is to them. They live in countries where there are no distractions except religious oppression their faith really grows to an extreme. They would live and die for God! Read this book it will change your life. Christian or non-Christain alike.
Rating: Summary: MADD GOOD BOOK Review: This book is a real good book. In fact, its a madd good one. Books that teach us to question ourselves and to see how other people lived really makes us think and i think that DC Talk did a real good job co-writing this book. In fact, it points as to how strong we really are. 8 year olds enduring their faith while their parents are killed before their eyes and parents doing the same while their kids are being murdered. All for Jesus and that while as morbid as it is, they are rewarded for it. You can't help but cry and be touched by these stories of people so bent on dying for Jesus that it just make you wanna reach out and touch them. Getting this book is a must. If you like compilation books just like the Chicken Soup series, then get this one. It makes you think and it touches your heart.
Rating: Summary: No better kind of "freak" to be! Review: This book impacted my life! I bought it when I first saw it because of it's look. It's very cool! The publisher created it with the appearance of a weathered, worn and tattered edges, well used, a comfortable and useful tool, as if it were carried around for many many years on the mission field or something. The look of it alone represents the intensity of it's content! I'd previously read "Fox's Book Of Martyrs", and appreciated that very much. But this compilation, more modern, with many more current testimonies, made me so much more aware of how much of a privilege it is for those of us who live in a country where we can not only worship the Lord, but possess His written Word without having to hide it, or hide from our faith, though we often seem to do so for feeble reasons(compared to those written about in this book). This book gave clear examples of real life people who, no matter what the cost, remained faithful to the end. It can change your life. It did mine!
Rating: Summary: "Highly Moving and Inspirational" Review: I have read accounts out of the "Foxe's Book of Martyrs", Eusebius' "History of the Church", and Josephus' "Jewish War", but due to the revision of those stories compiled more concisely in "Jesus Freaks" I found this book a little more touching. Jesus Freaks has a lot of stories from the twentieth-century, thus depicting that there is still a plethora of innocents dying for the sake of Christ today. These short stories will touch your heart and change your outlook on faith. The people who have died or suffered for the kingdom of heaven have shown us just what it really means to be the "salt and the light of the world" for they have seasonded the earth with their blood and they have become a light for us to follow as true servants of Christ. I really enjoyed the map on the back which displayed the nations that are in need of prayer.
Rating: Summary: Jesus Freaks is not just for freaks Review: More and more every day people are falling prey to the wicked ways of the world, because it's easier and more convenient. After reading this book, I realized exactly how powerfull the Christian faith is and what an honor it would be to give back to Christ, part of what he has given to us. Some of the stories in the book, told the story of people who were killed because of their faith. I don't look at it as a death, but a rebirth. God took them to Heaven and removed them from their persecution. And to think, the rest of us just might have to wait to get There. This book was an excelent read. I'm proud to own it and recommend it. It proves that there are more Christians out there than you might think and that God has truely awesome power.
Rating: Summary: Great devotional Review: Jesus Freaks is a book about the martyrs of the Christian church. It shares the story behind their death while challenging the reader to be prepared to stand for his or her faith. The book is not designed for a front to back reading, although you can do it. I used the book as a devotional by reading a passage or two each day. The book also features a reference in the back listing all the countries that persecute Christians with details as to what is going on there. Another interesting fact is design of the book. It has an "old" look to it from the torn edges and faded look. I highly recommend this book.
