Summary: CHRIST IS MORE POWERFUL THAN THIS!!!
Review: I understand the reason for this book in that it is to help people understand that there is a higher truth that we're living for...or that we should live for. I understand that it's to get people to stop focusing on their tiny little daily problems and realize that others have had it a lot worse than they have AND for a better cause. This book does indeed do this.

However, the martyrs in this book don't witness to non-believers in the most powerful way they can. Who wants to serve a God that doesn't protect you when you need Him most? That's not the God I serve!

We don't have to die for Christ! He did that for us! What each of these people should have done was take the name of Jesus, as Jesus Himself commanded, and rebuke the power Satan had over their murderers.

What about the stories I hear of people who stood their ground and said, "In the name of Jesus, of Whom I love and Whom I serve, get that gun/sword/knife out of my face! I am the head and NOT the tail! I am above and NOT beneath! NO WEAPON formed against me shall prosper! Repent for the sinful deed you have committed in your heart and bow your knee to the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth!!"??? These situations have happened! Including to myself.

People who have done this walked away from life-threatening situations - from both man and animal - because their would-be murderers/attackers ran in terror at these words or they collapsed at the truth of these words, repenting and giving their lives over to Christ. THIS is what we need to learn about...the POWER in the name of Jesus...and THIS is the witness of the POWER of the Name of the Lord, the King of kings and Lord of lords!!!

Have faith that God is there to protect you. What's a puny sword or gun compared to the Almighty God of Heaven? "Submit yourself to God. Resist the Devil and he will flee!" James 4:7

God Bless!

Summary: Not Just For Teens-Helping People Become Jesus Freaks!
Review: I have not completely finished Jesus Freaks yet, but let me tell you, it is a great book. Some are saying it is just for teens like me, but if you want your faith built up and want to be completely sold out for Jesus then you should read this. It will encourage you and will make your doubts disappear. When you see what so many have gone through for the gospel's sake you will be amazed and wish you could have the honor of being a martyr. You may think the persecution from people at work or school is tough but that is nothing in comparison, when you read this it will encourage you and make you more resolved to stand for Jesus Christ like the people presented in this book.

Summary: a good read, informative
Review: I found this to be an easy and interesting read. The book contains stories of Christian martyrs from biblical times to modern day, as well as a section about Christian persecution in other countries, and what we can do. I found it to be someone one sided, more of a Protestant book, as other Christian sects, Catholicism &Orthodoxy didnt really get much of a say in this book. The information in the book was very helpful, and lets one see that Christians arent always the ones persecuting. In other countries where Christians are the minority, we get more than our share of ridicule.

Summary: It means well.....
Review: D.C. Talk means well with their treatment of many martyrs that died for Christ. If the point was to inspire young adults and teens to be willing to sacrifice ALL for our Lord, this vehicle is a good one. The small things we may sacrifice in our time and place seem inconsequential compared to the sacrifices of these brothers and sisters in the Lord. I did not, however, give it 5 stars because of two issues... Another reviewer felt that most Catholics represented in the text are definitly presented as the "bad guys." I agree. They are repeatedly presented as being in error philisophically and behaviorally throughout the text. The reader should know that this is not an adaquate representation of true Catholicism, which has Jesus and His sacrifice at it's center, nor does it represent most true Catholics. I think personnal misgivings about this original part of the Church seeps into the text. Second, some of the information, particularly on the early saints, is incorrect. This book should be viewed as an inspirational work that glorifies the works and power of our Lord rather than a completely factual rendition of all events.

Summary: Martyrdom lives on
Review: This book of martyrdom is primarily focused on modern day events. The length of each excerpt didn't provide enough history of the subjects for my taste, but may be well suited for young adults or others that have little patience for literature. The real value of this book is the light it sheds on the continuing martyrdom of Christians even in the now "civilized" world.

Summary: Take up the challenge
Review: It is too easy to be cynical about the process of a band putting out a book, which because of their name will sell, and in turn further promote their music. However, if that is what dc Talk is about, they could not have chosen a tougher and less marketable subject. No matter which way you look at it, martyrdom is not a popular subject. And that is what 'Jesus Freaks' is about. The book is easy to read - in that it is attractively laid out and well written - but it is a challenging experience. The most significant feature is its currency. More than half the stories, stretching over 300 pages, come from the past 100 years, with 25 from the last decade and the most recent from just last year. The stories are not merely the stuff of dusty history textbooks. They are the true-life experiences of many in the world today. It is challenging stuff - but 'Jesus Freaks' is not just the stories of other people. The challenge is presented to the reader to live, share and, if necessary, die for the same faith for which each of the "Jesus freaks" has suffered. And there are other ways to get involved. The last quarter of the book suggests specific prayer targets in 42 countries of the world in which persecution continues. You can also become involved in letter writing campaigns, Amnesty International-style, aimed at encouraging fellow Christians and calling for an end to torture and killing. Read 'Jesus Freaks' and take up the challenge.

Summary: A very powerful book
Review: I read this book it is an awesome book. It tells the stories of people who had the courage to stand up and face death saying "I believe in God". My Sunday School class discussed this subject, alot of the girls didnt know what they would do if they were faced with a life or death question. This is a great book and I would advise everyone to read this book.

Summary: Oh, my, GOODNESS!!
Review: If this book doesn't change your views on life, and the way you live your faith, I don't know what will!! This book is so powerful, it will lift you out of your "comfort zone". My father doesn't read many books and especially if they're big, but when I bought it, he was the first to read it and because he recommended it so strongly, Iwill do the same. Read it!! Your life will never be the same!!
