Summary: Inspiring.
Review: I was truly inspired by this wonderful collection of stories. There have been martyrs all through history & this book highlights many of them. It made me stop and think about how lucky we are in America to practice any religion we want to. In many of these stories, Christians had to meet in underground churches, all the while knowing they could be found and sent to prison, beaten or even killed for their faith. The stories are rather sad and many of them brought tears to my eyes. It is easy to understand and a quick read. I just couldn't put it down. Please buy this book, you will truly be blessed.

Summary: Inspiring
Review: This book is filled with the stories of martyrs and true Christians who would do anything for Jesus. He paid the ultimate price, and most Christians have no idea what it's like to live for the Lord. I found myself crying, rejoicing, and being shocked with the stories found in this book. Be prepared to answer the question "How far will you go?"

Summary: Disturbing, Inspiring, Amazing
Review: This book is so very important for Christians to read. American Christians are spoiled, we have never been opressed, and our faith is easy. This book brings the plight of our faithful all across the world. How many of Us have died to spread His word. If you are a Christian, this is a must read. You will never view your faith the same way again. I was in tears many times through this book. If you are not a Christian, try it. The purpose is not to convert, and they do not rub religion in your faces. See what freedom is about in the great country, see what we all take forgranted, Christian or not.

One of the best books i have ever read.

God Bless you all

Summary: Going Deeper in my Faith
Review: I never thought that reading a book -- other then the bible -- would help me to get deeper in my faith. The way that DCTalk puts all of these stories together really reached out to me. especially the verse were Jesus says "those who follow me will be presecuted, but I will give you strenght." The way all of those people praised the lord while they were being burned at the stack, hanged, and torchered raise my spririt to think about all the wonderful thing I can do. We live in a country were we won't be presecuted and if we do this book has really shown to be that God will be with me no matter what.

Summary: A Call for Reflection
Review: I have read and re-read this book. Not only do I find the stories amazing I find many of the posted reviewers comments amazing as well. First of all, the idea that there is a anti-catholic, orthodox stance is not correct. The stories that I have read make no reference to any particular denominational affiliation of any one mentioned with the exception of a handful here and there. If it is understood that all examples of martyrdom prior to 1529 are of Orthodox-Roman Catholic-Jewish-Egyptian Christians one's perspective might be changed. Second, the Christians in most accounts that are martyerd are martyed as a result of Communist, Radical Islamic or other political splinter groups. (There is a great account of Russian Christians, Orthodox I suspect, reaching for Bibles as they were passed from the windows of a train, defying the authorities.) Here is the nuts and bolts issue of this whole misunderstanding.....the accounts do not go to any lengths to identify who is Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant or Non-Denominational in orientation. The accounts stress faithful discipleship in the face of persecution regardless of who is doing the persecuting......sure there are other great men and women of faith that could have been mentioned, Kolbe for example, but as the book says there are thousands and thousands of those who have died for their faith. I think if there is anything to be learned from this book it is that the truly faithful trancend politics, kings and kingdoms, dictators, church structures and the like. The emphasis is not on who is who, but on the fact that these people.......common believers, dare to stand for Christ in a world that still has no place for him. Read the book....experience the stories, and then regardless of your denomination, or lack there of, take an inventory of your faithfulness. This is a great book...brush up on your Church history, remember to distinguish between political powers and the kings and governements who used or still use religion to maintain their power, and think about the average unknown believer caught in the middle of a battle between political powers and ideologies. They are Orthodox, Copt, Roman Catholic, Protestant, Lutheran, Anglican, Baptist, Pentecostal, Non-denominational, and all hold in common, faith, love and fidelity. Brothers and Sisters, All.
