Rating: Summary: This book has forever changed my walk with GOD Review: This book is a must read for anyone who wants to draw closer to God. If you actually DO the work as instructed and not just read the book, your relationship with God will be forever transformed. You cannot possibly walk away from doing the steps in this workbook and have the same relationship with our LORD as you began. It really gets to the heart of the relationship that we are to have with GOD. If you really have a heart for God and seek after him, this book will bless you over and over again. By using examples from the Bible the authors show us how God wants to have a close personal relationship with ALL of his children. We see how God works with HIS children from the Old and the New Testament. God does not change, and this book shows that to us again and again. This book has changed my life and improved my marriage. From a practical standpoint doing the "work" in this workbook is a challenge (as is our Christian walk). There is no magic formula and you get out of it exactly what you put into it, no more and no less. If you just read the book there really is little point in purchasing it, but if you DO the work, the blessings will flow like water. Mine do.
Rating: Summary: What a beautiful journey with my Lord and Savior! Review: Are you at a crossroads in your faith journey? Do you feel like there has to be more to the relationship with God than you are experiencing but just don't know how to get there? Then this book can help you pick up from where you are and take your life on a journey with God that will not end until THIS life is over! I took this course with a group that had mixed results. Those of us that were "ripe" for the growth that come about as a result of an in-depth study used this bible study to teach us how to have a continuously growing relationship with God. Yes, there were a couple of things in the book that I didn't agree with, but I have never found a book that I agree with totally except the Bible. Because of this study, I have learned about God's healing love, and now are hungry every day to read and study my Bible, devotionals and other books. I pray and praise God constantly throughout my day. It is so sweet to go to sleep with a prayer on my lips and to wake with a praise song in my heart! I was truly a Type-A personality before this study, and have found such joy and peace in turning my life over to my Lord and Master. This book will not facilitate that, though, you have to be ready in your heart for it. I am allowing God to take my life and do with it as He will instead of wasting it on the ways of this world anymore. My husband and I are beginning a journey in prison ministries that we would have never gone on without this study or something similar to it. We don't know where the journey will take us, but look forward to the day that our God looks at us with love in His eyes, and calls us His "good and faithful servants". If you are ready for this kind of change in your life, this study is an excellent place to start. Have a wonderful journey. Grace and peace to you. Barbara
Rating: Summary: Sad that this was seen as so annointed by mature believers Review: I personally resisted reading this because it was so well received by mainstream christians during its heyday , but finally after coming to Israel I read it when I had nothing else left . I should have went without. The book is geared to first or second year adult believers, beyond that one should already be beyond this. However the book is really into pushing building churches and the many testimonies about it from the author, personally I have little use for such things. The best part of the book is the glossary in the back which lists all the names and actions describing the L-RD , which is fun to look up each one, beyond that I would recommend not reading this book.
Rating: Summary: Hmmm Review: I'm sorry - I couldn't even finish this book because it was so simplistic and poorly written. Even though the concepts in the book are fine (I don't personally disagree with much of what Blackaby or King says) the truth is that you could write this book in about 1/4 the space. I do feel that this book could be useful for new Christians, or those who are looking for a good book for their Christian raised teenager or something. But so far as it being the groundbreaking book that others have said it is I'm afraid I'd have to disagree. Most of the book feels like you're being talked down to (the familiar Christian complex,) and the concepts are so repetitive, and simplistic it feels like he's saying "repeat after me..." For someone who wants a well written, challenging series of books that talk about experiencing God in your life day to day I highly recommend Brian McLaren's books. They changed my life. After reading "More Ready than you Relize" though, this book just seems like some poorly written flyer that a fundamentalist might hand you on the street.
Rating: Summary: Heavy -- Do you want to hear God? Review: This is a workbook, with emphasis on WORK. Its valuable but intense. Its not for the faint of heart. Its not for those who are new or relatively immature Christians. It helps to have a strong backgorund in scripture - you will see a lot of it. This workbook is best done in a group setting. OK if you're still reading my review you should strongly consider buying this workbook. This is not a system or formula. It focuses on establishing a love relationship with God and indicates that which follows from and accompanies that relationship. It has many examples and illustrations taken directly from the author's life. One of the most important points the author makes is that the love realtionship is the foundation. Future spiritual success and "knowing and doing His will" are built upon that foundation. The experience of this workbook is sometimes unnerving. The reader will likely be stretched out of his comfort zone now and then. Its a healthy kind of discomfort though. I agree with much that the author writes, although not all. Regardless, it has been very valuable to me as a disciple of Christ. Close friends, also devout believers, report with awe that it changed their lives. Its changing mine. If one is willing to devote some serious time to the exercises and questions, I recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Life Changing Review: Excellent book! I recommend this to anyone who is going through a tough time. It may sound unbelievable, but I now have a better marriage and home life. I've become a better parent too! This book has something for everyone and is a real eye-opener!
Rating: Summary: Which will? Review: I did this study in college back when it was being proclaimed as the greatest thing since sliced bread by certain Southern Baptists. I trusted them and ended up being confused, wondering why I could not hear God's voice. I have since learned that the book is unscriptural and contains many falsehoods. I should have compared it against scripture but I was lazy and trusted the author and those recommending it at the time. What are some of its problems? First of all, about which of God's wills is Blackaby discussing? God's "decretive will" is already decreed and will not change and God's "revealed will" is found in His Word. There is no promise in the Scriptures that God talks to us concerning His will. Blackaby uses verses concerning O.T. prophets out of context to try to show that we can find the "secret to discovering God's will." Well quit listening for some schizophrenic voice in your head and get off your duff and read the Bible to discover His will. This new age spiritualism that Blackaby proclaims is unscriptural. Also, Blackaby says to look and see where God is working then drop what you are doing and jump in. This runs contrary to biblical accounts of men doing as God commanded without visible results. Were they out of God's will or was God's will just not apparent at the time because we don't know God's decreed will? hmmmm.... Blackaby assumes that if you are not reaping a large visible harvest then you are out of God's will and should jump on board somewhere else where more results can be seen. Mr. Blackaby, let Jeane Dixon, John Edward and other physics handle the communing with other worlds: Let believers stick with the Bible. .
Rating: Summary: Good and Bad Mixed Review: There are a lot of good things in this study, but he makes some statements, several of which are key to the course, which I believe are not Biblical, and even dangerous. I think folks who do not have a good knowledge of the Bible may not see this, and it can mislead them in some areas. If I could take those things out and rewrite sections of his book, I would recommend it. But as it is, it is perpetuating some false doctrine in my opinion. I am hoping that those who don't know any better and take this study will not be lead down the wrong path. I recommend readers study the scripture verses he sites IN CONTEXT. He takes some scriptures out of context and I believe mishandles them. Also, I would recommend questioning and talking about the concepts instead of just swallowing them all without question - ask yourself if what he is saying is Biblical (don't just take his word that it is Biblical). I think you will find in some cases he really can't back up what he is saying from the Bible, particularly the New Testament, at all.
Rating: Summary: Read with caution. Review: The author says 'agree with God even when you're not sure what He's saying'. When you read such you should proceed with caution because that's exactly what a cult would say. As a Christian, Jesus wants us to know everything - how can we follow something vague? God gave human beings a wonderful gift that seems to be dormant in much Christian teaching these days -it's called 'common sense'.
Rating: Summary: Every christian should start here Review: This is the single most helpful book I have read in 45 years of christian living. I wish I had found it all those years ago. It is a tremendous help is teaching you how to live the life Christ taught. Prayer, life decisions, how to make right decisions are all covered and are totally bible based in support of the teaching. It is very deep and took time but was worth every minute spent in it. I would rate it second in importance to the bible as a necessary tool for the new christian.
