Rating: Summary: Verse by verse Review: Unlike other books, B. Holt's works take all verses of the NT concerned by the subject, and bring them to the reflexion of the reader.I think the Bible has to be the only reference for such a matter. Some of the reviewers estimate the book to be biased from the start because it focuses on the Bible only. But who can have a superior authority than God's Word?
Rating: Summary: A Pleasant Read Review: What a wonderful book. The simplicity but thoroughness of the writing makes it easy to read and understand. Written for the average person, this book answers some of the toughest scriptures regarding the Deity of Jesus. And, in risk of being repetitive with the reviews below, no other book I have read on this subject presents it in such a format. Going straight through the New Testament considering the verses both for and against the Trinity was brilliant. I hope this author will come out with some more books soon!
Rating: Summary: Jesus God or the Son of God Review: When writing a book about Jesus the Author would have sounded much better if he had even read the Bible. It's very obovious that he thinks much of himself and not what Jesus said about himself. Let's review:The only-begotten Son of God, the only Son produced by Jehovah alone. This Son is the firstborn of all creation. By means of him all other things in heaven and on earth were created. He is the second-greatest personage in the universe. Jesus himself taught that he was the unique Son of God (John 10:36; Matt. 16:15-17), the foretold Messiah (Mark 14:61, 62), that he had a prehuman existence in heaven (John 6:38; 8:23, 58), that he would be put to death and then would be raised to life on the third day and would thereafter return to the heavens. (Matt. 16:21; John 14:2, 3) John 17:3, RS: "[Jesus prayed to his Father:] This is eternal life, that they know thee the only true God ["who alone art truly God," NE], and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent." (Notice that Jesus referred not to himself but to his Father in heaven as "the only true God.") John 20:17, RS: "Jesus said to her [Mary Magdalene], 'Do not hold me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brethren and say to them, I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'" (So to the resurrected Jesus, the Father was God, just as the Father was God to Mary Magdalene. Interestingly, not once in Scripture do we find the Father addressing the Son as "my God.") Hopefully this will clear up the authors misconception of Jesus and his Father
