Summary: READ THIS BOOK--IT CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE
Review: I read Piper's book for the first time as a young Christian. It completely changed my view of God; it caused me to become a radical Christian with an insatiable thirst for the endless fountain of God's grace, which I look forward to drinking from for eternity. God bless Dr. Piper--this book and his ministry, Desiring God Ministeries, are a gift of grace to any who are blessed with the knowledge they exist. Few other books, short of the Bible itself, come close to drawing the reader to a radical satisfaction in/with God.

Summary: One of the most life-altering books I have read.
Review: I'd have a hard time coming up with a book that has changed my life more than Desiring God. Having read the book three times, I think I'm finally beginning to come to grips with it's central message: we glorify God by delighting in him. Pleasure is the measure of our treasure. Or, to put it another way: to the degree that we delight in God himself, we honor Him as our Treasure.

Summary: Life changing!
Review: Desiring God has had the most radical impact on my thinking and life. Piper's thesis - that the only way to live is with a combined passion for our own joy and for God's glory - has been a powerful and fruitful motivation in my life eversince I grasped this truth. His biblical exposition is stunning - there is no fanciful speculation, just a clear and obvious presentation of scripture. On prayer, he demonstates convincingly that the purpose of prayer is to maximise God's glory (Jn 14:13) and to maximise our joy (Jn 16:24). This has sunk deep into my spirit and transformed the way I pray - and the effectiveness of my praying! Much more could be said about this totally God-centred book. Get it, read it, share it.

Summary: True Joy is found in delighting in GOD!!
Review: One of the 5 most significant books I have ever read in my 27 years of being a christian! Piper provides a new paradigm for developing a relationship with God and building a christian lifestyle. This book is a true fountain of joy for those who weave it's insights into their lives. I have encouraged many to read it, and they are experiencing the same impact. We often call things "lifechanging", but this truly is!

Summary: Transforming Christian thought!
Review: Piper challenges Christians to really enjoy God. To worship simply for the joy of the experience. To love others and God simply because of the joy that can be received. Using the Apostle Paul, and King David, Piper shows us that joy is one of the central themes of the Scripture...and that it is not wrong to seek joy in our faith and service.

Summary: Christians, ENJOY YOUR GOD!!
Review: Piper is rallying Christians around a higher call: Enjoy God! In a world where frustrated, unhappy Christians debate about what they can and can't do, where non-Christians see Christian infighting and are disillusioned, Piper is proclaiming that the Christian life is about relationship with God and joy in Him. God is most glorified when we delight in him!

Summary: Read one of the best books in Chrisitan thought today!
Review: John Piper's God-exalting book is one of the most stimulating and engaging books that I have ever read. The chief end of man, Piper writes, is to glorify God by enjoying him forever. He expands on this by repeatedly teaching us that God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in him. God gets the glory, we get the pleasure and happiness. In other words, God's desire to be glorified and my desire for lasting peace, happiness, joy, and satisfaction are not at odds with each other, but are one and the same goal. Reading this book will take you through a whirlwind tour of God-centered Christianity by a careful and very wise guide. Piper shows how a Christian Hedonist uses her money, loves his neighbor, worships his God, and seeks to have others join in worship by exalting God in missions and rejoicing in suffering. Using our sword (the Word) and empowered by prayer, we can be obedient in this battle. This book could reawaken countless numbers of Christians to exalt God for who he is, and is even recommended for the non-Christian who believes that this particular faith is a usual, boring one. It is no exagerration to state that this book will point one to the fountain of joy: God Himself. Therefore, I would recommend this to all who are Christian Hedonists and all who desire to become one!

Summary: IF YOU ONLY READ ONE BOOK, BESIDES THE BIBLE, READ THIS ONE!
Review: Piper writes: "God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him." What a life changing concept!!! And it is Scripturally sound! The activity of our faith in Jesus Christ is wrapped up in being satisfied in all that God promises to be for us in Jesus! Joy is the business of Christianity. Piper's well thought-out and wonderfully argued thesis will change your life. His grasp of God's soveriegnty will put you in awe of God and spark in your soul a desire to get more of God. His extensive quoting of Jonathon Edwards and other great saints, demonstrates this is no new idea. He is grounded on Scripture and God will use this book to ignite a passion in your soul for His glory. Buy it and read it!

Summary: For anyone longing for deep satisfaction in life
Review: This is a book for anyone who has experienced hunger, longing and desire in life without finding satisfaction. Piper's book introduces readers to ideas that are freeing and exhiliarating while not straying from scriptural foundations. For me, this book drew me from years of hopelessly seeking satisfaction by fulfilling shallow desires into the wonder of enjoying a life in the presence of God. To desire God and then satisfy that hunger by enjoying Him is the richest experience in life--and Piper strengthens this argument by drawing out the numerous scriptures that reference the experience of joy and delight in God. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is dissatisfied with their life, or their relationships with people or God. A journey through 'Desiring God' will enrich your life, your relationships, and the quality of your future.

Summary: I'm not just saying this...
Review: I'm not one who is given to hyperbole; but Desiring God has easily had the most significant impact on my life of any contemporary book. Because of the controversial way in which he terms things, Piper has opened himself up to criticism; but those who give the book an unbiased reading should be pleased with the results.

Having grown up in a Christian home, it's easy to equate Christianity with all things "churchy." What Piper forced me to do was to reevaluate Jesus' command in Mark 12:28-31 in light of my attitudes toward God. Did I really love Him? How was my love of God (or lack thereof) revealed in my passions and delights?

There's much more that could be said, but the best option is to read the book yourself. It's not often that one finds a combination of love for God, deep scholarship and biblical concern in one package. Read the book!
