Summary: How can you describe the indescribable?
Review: If the book follows the exerpts then I would have to say it's not very intellectually stimulating with new ideas. In trying to describe the indescribable, the author equates heaven with things we know of this life and makes it appear very boring. The Bible says that 'we cannot even conceive what heaven will be like'. Heaven is a 'spirit' world of 'immortal beings' - nothing like we've ever seen. Give me a sci-fi book any day that portrays supposedly impossible themes and then you get my interest.

Summary: Disappointed
Review: If you are an animal lover, beware. After reading part of Chapter 5 "Will You Be Amazed?", I closed the book for good. Yes, I was amazed. The author doesn't believe that animals have eternal souls. Out of all the multitude of books I've read, this is the only one that eliminates the idea of our beloved animals in heaven. Rest assured, if we make it to heaven, they will too, indeed. In fact, we are also animals, mammals, just as our beloved dog & cat friends are! So what I've read in Chapter 5 doesn't make any sense. I'm very disappointed & won't ever recommend this book to anyone!

Summary: An Excellent Treatise!!!
Review: Randy Alcorn has written a wonderful introduction to the topic of Heaven, and for those of you interested, you can check out his recent bestseller -"Heaven," which expands on this topic. But "In Light of Eternity" is a great study, and it focuses on the obvious - where are you going to spend the afterlife, and what you do in this life will carry over into the next - Heaven or Hell.

Quoting periodically from C.S. Lewis, and his Alcorn's other fictional accounts of Heaven from novels such as "Deadline," "Dominion," "Edge of Eternity," and "Safely Home," he provides a very provocative look in a rare topic of discussion for today's Christian. And I can tell you that it helped me to keep my eye on Christ and to measure everything I do now with how it will affect me in Heaven.

A great book and incredibly recommended!!!!

Summary: Read At Your Own Risk
Review: This book had me reading a few lines and then staring into space because what I was reading was so profound that I could only read it in small doses, with intervals of digestion. I have a completely different view of my earthly life because of my new view of my eternal life. If you are a complacent Christian, one who takes salvation for granted, beware. This book will change you in ways that give you a new heart, new eyes and a new perspective on your future. You will not be the same. You will view the evening news and the headlines in your favorite newspaper from a totally different perspective - the one of Heaven. I will live with my Lord for ever. This life on earth and its cares are so fleeting and our purpose here gets lost in all our busyness. As a bride prepares for her marriage and a mother prepares for the birth of her child, the remainder of my life will be spent in preparation for my eternity. I pray to see you there. Oh that He would say "Well done . . . ."

Summary: In Light of Eternity - a must read!
Review: This book is a must read. The five pages of Chapter 23 are worth the price of the book. It makes heaven, our real home, come alive. Full of very significant counsel on how to live "in light of eternity". A wonderful book for those who have terminal illnesses or who are dealing with the death of a friend or loved one. We gave out 20 to family members on the death of my mother in law. With the authors permission I quoted extensively from the book for a funeral message and had very positive feedback from those in attendance.

Summary: Thank Heavens It's Not All Harps and Clouds!
Review: This is a non-fiction book you have a hard time putting down! I've always looked forward to heaven because I'll get to be with my Savior. But to be honest, the traditional view of standing around singing all day (and I love to sing!) didn't really appeal to me straight away. I always said, "Well, I'm sure I'll feel differently about that once I get there." In Light of Eternity uses scripture to show that heaven is more than praising God in song...it's praising Him with the continued work of our hands and hearts, it's fellowship with other citizens of the City Foursquare, it's community...all in the light of God's loving presence. "What a day that will be when my Jesus I shall see!" And how much more significant the choices we make here on earth become, knowing that nothing is wasted. --Lisa Samson, author of The Church Ladies.

Summary: Heaven is Awesome-this is a great book!
Review: To the one star reviewers let me just say this. Did you read any of the scriptures in the Bible on Heaven? There will be animals and exotic creatures, trees, rivers, houses, mountains, angels and people. Earth is like Heaven in these small ways. Heaven will have familiar and new things for us to see.

And for those who Quote the verse "Eye hath not seen, Nor ear heard, nor hath entered into the heart of man......) as to say that we can't understand or envision heaven, maybe you should read the next verse whick says "But GOD HATH REVEALED THEM UNTO US by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God."

So quite simply Randy Alcorn has revealed some things in this book that the Word and the Spirit have revealed to him about heaven.
Excellent book.
