Rating: Summary: Required Reading Review: Alcorn collects from his novels many of his intriguing comments and portraits of heaven-- then explains and defends his ideas. The result is so biblically sound, so rationally compelling and emotionally moving, that I sell these books at a loss at my church and office, give them as prizes to my students, and shamelessly quote from it in my own sermons and lectures. In Light of Eternity is one of those compact little bombs that occasionally explode in our lives, after which we are never the same. At least I hope I will never be the same. I may never live up to my own hopes and fervent desires, kindled by this book and others like it (Desiring God by Joh Piper comes to mind), but for the rest of my earthly life, I bend all my will to that end. This is "pure spiritual milk" for those who want to nurture in themselves an apostolic heart.

Rating: Summary: A PREVIEW OF HEAVEN Review: AWESOME BOOK. AS CLOSE TO EXPERIENCING HEAVEN I MAY HAVE THIS SIDE OF HEAVEN. DON'T MISS IT . RANDY HAS AN AWESOME IMAGINATION (BASED ON SCRIPTURE) . YOU WILL THINK HE HAS BEEN THERE! DON'T MISS IT, CHRISTIAN. I AM READING MINE FOR THE SECOND TIME AND IT'S EVEN BETTER THIS TIME!
Rating: Summary: Gets you ready for Heaven Review: I am terminally ill and a friend sent me this book. It's really a gem, and has lifted my spirits quite a bit. I would recommend this to any Christian who is searching for answers about what Heaven will be like. Scriptures are all included to back up this author's ideas and opinions. I loved this book.
Rating: Summary: Directions Home Review: I cannot stop thinking about heaven, especially after reading In Light Of Eternity. Randy Alcorn has developed an extrodinary set of directions to encourage believers towards their true home. Those who read this book will get a first hand look at what Jesus is preparing for those who know him, and act, on his promises. This little book, in my opinon, captures what the great men and women of faith lived their lives for; "the long tomorrow". This is True North for those who wish to hear Jesus say "Well done, good and faithful servant".
Rating: Summary: Thank you, thank you! Review: I have read this book once, now my husband and I are reading it during our devotional time. I am also going through each chapter looking up each reference. "Deadline" was wonderful, now I have scripture to back it up.Thank you so much for this wonderful little book that has so "enlightened" us about things in heaven we had never thought about. I don't think I will ever "finish" this book. I am telling my friends about it and buying several to give away. I give it a very high recommendation.

Rating: Summary: I can see more of the light Review: I haven't really thought about Heaven very much. I read the novels "Deaadline" and "Dominion" and found myself wanting to know more about Heaven. I saw this book in one of the recommendation links and I am glad that I picked it up. I read it through in a few days and was greatly encouraged by it. I went back and read through it again and looked up the Scripture passages. I never realized that there was so much about Heaven in the Scriptures that I overlooked. For any Christian, this is a book to read and be encouraged. It will help sustain you when the times get rough by helping to keep your eye on the prize at the end of the race. For the non-Christian, this book will help you see the promises that God gives to us through His Son. I have gone through the book a few times now and still find new information about my home in the Scripture passages. It is not only an encouraging book to read for the Christian, it is also a helpful tool with evangelism. You don't have to pound doors to evangelize, you do so with your life. When people ask you about your hope, you can use the information in this book to tell people about the home that you will be going to and, with the Lord's help, this could set a spark off in their heart to know more. I am glad that I got this book. I know that I will still go over it a few more times. It helps to refresh me when times are looking dark. I would recommend this book for you, no matter who you are.

Rating: Summary: Why I wrote this book and what it deals with Review: I really enjoyed writing In Light of Eternity. It's a short book, concise, citing many passages of Scripture that give us a cumulatively substantial picture of heaven. I wrote it largely in response to the thousands of letters and questions from readers of my novels Deadline, Dominion and Edge of Eternity. They've asked why I portray heaven (and hell) as I do in these books. (In ILOE I cite brief passages from all three of those novels.) In Light of Eternity is full of answers to those reader questions--including what will we do in heaven, will we remember family and friends and events on earth, can those in heaven see what's happening on earth, will there be animals, what's the nature of rewards, etc. The Bible tells us much more about heaven than is often assumed. In a day when speculation and subjectivism about heaven runs rampant, I found it refreshing to carefully examine what Scripture says. Readers tell me they've given it to those who've lost loved ones and those facing death themselves. I'm getting lots of encouraging responses from it, and I'm always interested in reader feedback. If you read ILOE, please email me at ralcorn@epm.org and tell me what you think. Thanks!
