Summary: An interesting read, if your mind is open
Review: We think today in the US that we can argue about anything, because we all have different ideas and beliefs and they should all be shared! I say this because of some of the negative, bitter comments by some of the reviewers of this book. This is not a book about political philosophy or current events in which we can discuss the pinwheels of opinions out in society. This is a book by a spiritual, faith-based man who cares very deeply for his religion and wants to share his experience with others. He does not offer a confrontational, "stick it in your face" style. The book is geared towards Catholics, but can be read many others who adhere to Christian based beliefs. As a matter of fact, you don't even have to be a Christian to buy this book. If you want to critique a book on faith, then critique its style, or format, not on what the person believes in!

Summary: an uplifting book
Review: After 52 years of being a Catholic, I thought there was not much more for me to learn about my faith. I changed my mind after reading Hail Holy Queen. It has made me feel like a little child again, a child of God, a beloved daughter of Mary. I am also excited about reading the bible for the first time in my life. This is a very uplifting book.

Summary: Awesome presentation of Mary in Scripture
Review: I just got back from the Defending the Faith Conference at the Franciscan University of Steubenville, where Professor Hahn gave the greatest talk that I've ever heard, "Mary, Full of Grace". Based on this book, he motivated me (and everybody else in the crowd of 1800+) to get a copy of "Hail, Holy Queen" and read it, which is just what I've done in the last three days. What an inspiring vision of Mary in the history of salvation. Forget about "proof texts". It's time for us Cathollics to study "biblical typology", like the early Fathers of the Church and the authors of the New Testament. Mary really is the "new Eve" and "the Ark of the New Covenant" and "the Queen Mother of the Son of David". As soon as I finished the book, I prayed a Rosary of thanksgiving to Jesus for the gift of His Mother. The most exciting Rosary I have ever prayed. I plan to incorporate Prof Hahn's book into my prayer and homilies for a great while to come.

Please do yourself (and everyone else) a big favor: Get this book. Read it. Study it. Incorporate it into your prayer. Then share it. In my opinion, it's better than "The Lamb's Supper".

Summary: A real-live "classic" that every christian should read
Review: I read a lot, and I'm not easily impressed by religious books. That said, I couldn't put this book down. Even after finishing it. I've re-read it twice more in the last month. My husband and brother have read it too, and both of them agree that it is one of those rare books from our period that will be recognized as a "Catholic classic" for centuries. Get it, read it, and be prepared to purchase extra copies for friends and family.

Summary: Inspiring & informative, including the 15 pages of footnotes
Review: This is the most readable and convincing book about Mary on the market. It is informative and inspiring. Hahn showed me how to read the Bible typologically, and why the Church's teachings on Mary make the best sense of Scripture. He writes here with real clarity and profundity and wit, just like "The Lamb's Supper".

I don't know of any other theologian, Catholic or Protestant, whose books are so deep, and yet easy to read and comprehend. Since finishing "Hail, Holy Queen" last week, I find myself wondering how much longer I can remain outside of the Catholic Church. As an ex-Catholic, you might say this one really hit home with me.

P.S. To the nasty reviewer from Bakersfield who criticizes Hahn for not including footnotes, I would say, go back and read the "Sources and References" on pages 177-191. I wonder if this bigoted critic even bothered to read the book before bashing it. Indeed, I challenge him to find another book that is less than 200 pages long, that contains 15 pages of footnotes.

Summary: You've got to be a good Jew before being a good Christian!
Review: This astounding book made me realize that, before you can be a good Christian, you must first be a good Jew. Without the Jewish understanding of the Old Testament, the New Testament remains, in large, a mystery. I highly recommend this book to any Christian who is not fully aware of the Blessed Mother's critical role in salvation, and why it is biblical to honor her. So easy to read in Scott Hahn's conversational style. A must read for all who are interested in the Truth!

Summary: Warm & inviting, at least for this Southern Baptist pastor
Review: I am an ordained Southern Baptist minister, but I have felt something missing in my worship for about a year. When I read HAIL, HOLY QUEEN there was something warm and inviting about the book. Since then, I have been devouring Catholic theology. It has been so long since I have felt such excitement over theology. Last Saturday I attended my first Mass. I immediately felt a sense of worship. When the priest said "Behold the Lamb of God" the words almost brought tears to my eyes. I am praying for a a job now so that I can resign from the church and begin entrance into the Catholic Church. I strongly recommend this book. Don't miss it.

Summary: Ho Hum
Review: I don't recommend this book. It manipulates the emotions of those not well grounded in the scriptures. I consider the contents a form of deception. The author is deceived, and it is a pure case of the blind leading the blind.

Summary: The mysteries of faith truly come alive in a "livable" way
Review: ... During the past several days, I have been reading through the book and wanted to offer a few quick comments.

First of all, it is very much a Catholic book. It provides: 1) a perfect combination of personal evangelical spirit and witness; 2) historical, critical scholarship with respect to the biblical text; and 3) the living tradition of the Church (liturgy, faith of the people, the saints, the Magisterium).

"Hail, Holy Queen" also makes the central mystery of the Catholic faith come alive in a "livable" way: that God in his deepest mystery is a FAMILY, that through the gift of the New Covenant and Paschal Mystery we truly become children in that Divine Family of self giving love. We can call the Mother of Jesus "Mom." (Is there a Hebrew word of endearment for "Mother"?) Having read the book, the importance of family in the author's life is clear. I want to thank him for the fine work.

Summary: Persuasive biblical theology, not polemical apologetics
Review: Scott Hahn has contributed to the immense body of Marian literature with an accessible, almost conversational treatment of the place of Mary in Catholic theology. Hahn's style is persuasively easy, but the biblical theology he expounds and champions is at times complex -- and he negotiates this difficult territory very well. Hahn's book is an excellent American response to the current Pope's well-known devotion to the Virgin Mary and to the fact that her status in the official Church teaching has never been higher. Highly recommended.
