Summary: Feel a little better when you're done
Review: In modern times where any bit of 'entertainment' can leave you feeling a bit down, its nice to have something that lets you walk away with a smile. The quality writing and uplifting story with solid values can make you feel grounded as well as full of hope. The world is an amazing place and though this book is fiction, it gives a positive perspective that may help you get a fresh focus. The characters from Mitford always have something going on and Father Tim seems like someone that you could really enjoy knowing.

Summary: A DELIGHTFUL STORY IN WHICH TO LOSE ONESELF
Review: IN READING JAN KARON'S BOOKS ONE FEELS THEY ARE PART OF THE WORLD THAT ONE WOULD LIKE TO LIVE IN. THE CHARACTERS ARE SO LIFELIKE THAT ONE HAS TO GUARD AGAINST THE TENDENCY TO BELIEVE THEY ARE NOT FICTION. HOWEVER, I NOTE THE AUTHOR IS INTRODUCING PROGRESS TO MITFORD AND TEMPERING IT WITH THE ACKNOWLEDGEMENT THAT LIFE DOES MOVE ON, ALTHOUGH ONE WOULD PREFER (AS A READER) THAT IT DID NOT IN MITFORD !

Summary: Faith and Forgiveness
Review: In this, the third book of the Mitford series, Father Tim Kavanaugh and his charming newlywed wife Cynthia return to face the challenges of building a new life together. The obstancles start when they begin trying to live together - they find that Tim's bed is far too old, and Cynthia's far to big for comfort. Once the dilemma is solved, the challenge of remodeling the parish rectory into the Italian Villa look must be undertaken.

Of course, life in Mitford can't be just about the happy couple. The newlyweds take a rather adventure-filled camping trip with the Lord's Chapel Youth Group, call upon old friends in the parish, and continue to care for Dooley. New members of the community are introduced - a new policewoman provides a love interest, and an abused little girl challenge Father Tim's views of what is right and wrong.

Jan Karon continues her impeccable Mitford series with this book. Any fan of the series is sure to agree.

Summary: ONCE AGAIN JAN KARON OUTDID HERSELF IN BOOK NUMBER 3.
Review: In this, the third book of the Mitford series, I fell hopelessly in love with the quaint town of Mitford and its beloved characters. I truly became one of them. One day I even climbed "These High Green Hills" and looked down on the happenings of Mitford and lost all touch with reality. The furniture needed dusting, the carpeting needed vacuuming, and the dishes piled up in the sink, but Mitford was more fun. The real world could wait. I became completely captivated by Jan Karon's genius!

Summary: Mitford and Mayberry
Review: Jan Karon is a gifted author who writes of simpler times and ordinary folks. I was hooked at once after reading the first book in the series. Each book keeps getting better as Father Tim and Cynthia and their friends live their busy productive lives in a small mountain community.

People who enjoyed Andy Griffith and the Mayberry TV shows will feel the same warmth and joy in Mitford stories.

Although there is a strong Christian message throughout, these books are for people of all faiths. The characters are outstanding, so real they could be people you know (or wish you knew). You will marvel at the surprising twists and turns as the stories evolve.

Read the first book and continue with the series for sheer pleasure. Share this book and the others in the series with friends and neighbors. They are so special, so satisfying, and contain a powerful message of hope. All ages will benefit and be uplifted.

Summary: My heart belongs to Mitford & her family!
Review: Just finished Book Two, & Mitford & its residents remind me so much of my former home in Upstate NY & my former church. I can identify each of the Mitford residents with my friends from there. Almost like coming home again. I know my heart will break in two when I finish book four. Father Tim is so very much like our former pastor & has the same qualities I love about him. Jan Karon has given us all a little bit of Americana in Mitford, whether we live in the country or long for it, we can escape to Mitford for a short breath of fresh air.

Summary: Reading on the edge of my seat!
Review: Sadie's love story brought tears in At Home in Mitford; Sadie's goodbye brought tears in These High, Green Hills, and this third book in the Mitford series kept me on the edge of my seat...a great read for suspense in the cave. My great aunt, Annie Smith Bowie, wrote poetry about beautiful Blowing Rock and the author's birthplace, Lenoir, N.C. Her work came to life through Father Tim and Cynthia's love of the mountains. Karon's writing depicts an ideal yet human Rector in a natural society. I can't finish Out of Canaan. What will Father Tim's flock read next? As Sadie said, "sing on" Jan. We are waiting for your lyrics in book five.

Summary: Karon's characters give insight into small town life .
Review: The endearing characters in Jan Karon's second book in the Mitford series, 'A Light in the Window', have given me insight into my own small town parish. Often as I read I find myself recasting the script with the folks I know. Jan Karon may not win a Pulitzer prize in literature for these books, but she has won a warm place in the hearts of many men and women who enjoy a gentle read before retiring. Any book which makes a person smile or laugh out loud performs a fine service. After so many murder mysteries, war novels, and expose books, this genre is a pleasant relief.
