Rating: Summary: Uprising Review: I am Erwin McManus' newest fan. His book challenged me to clarify and rethink word concepts such as integrity, gratefulness and service. He has a gift for connecting and contrasting words providing clarity and incite. I was compelled to re examine and re commit to basic beliefs that had been left to atrophy.
Rating: Summary: This book helped me the most. Review: I bought all three of the author's books at the same time. I tried to read them in the order, in which he wrote them, but found this book to be the only one I could read immediately. As the Quakers say, "it spoke to my condition. " I didn't ever think that "wholeness" as McManus writes of it was possible. As a member of a twelve step group, I thought of myself in recovery not recovered. But McManus points out that your brokenness can be healed. This doesn't mean you are perfect, but your focus no longer has to be on yourself. I found that what he says is true as a spiritual healing has just taken place in my life. I really appreciate McManus explanation of spiritual wholeness. I've never heard anyone explain it before.

Rating: Summary: A book you can't put down! Review: I have heard Mr. Mc Manus speak and he was great then. However, his book is so much better. This is one of those books that is so well written that it makes you want to keep reading. It has a lot of directly useful information that is given is such a way to put into life now, in my walk with God.
It is a must read for all christians wanting to learn to improve their life for God.
I have found it a great pleasure to read. And it is an easy read too.
Rating: Summary: Deep insights on deep character Review: I have never read another book quite like this. Erwin has an amazing ability to speak straight to your soul. It is as if his words have the ability to create a canal from your brain directly to your heart. So many times, I had to put down the book to gasp for breath, ashamed at the level of life I am currently living and enthralled by the possiblity of eventual and heroic change. Erwin breakdown the chucky virtures of Faith, Hope and Love to a mirco level, making it easier for them to permeate into our system to produce the kind of person and the level of living Jesus calls us to. Breathtaking, enlarging and dangerously poetic, this book is truly nothing short of a Revolution.
Rating: Summary: REFRESHING AND BOLD Review: I UNDERSTAND THAT SO MANY CHRISTIAN BOOKS SEEM REPETITIVE--ANOTHER BOOOK THAT HARPS ON THE SAME THING. NOT SO WITH UPRISING. I PICKED UP THIS BOOK AT A BOOKSTORE AND WAS IMPACTED WITH HIS HONESTY AND STRAIGHFORWARDNESS. I ENCOURAGE YOU, ALSO, TO PICK UP THIS BOOK AND PRAYERFULLY ALLOW IT TO PENETRATE YOUR HEART.
Rating: Summary: Are you ready for an Uprising of the soul!? Review: I've heard Erwin speak twice, and have read all three of his books. All three were great, however, Uprising was the best. To say the least - It challenged me in ways like never before. If you want to stay in the spectator seats of life, do'nt read this book. If you're ready to get in the game, and start chewing up yards for the kindom of God - buy this book. If you're tired of getting bogged down in the red zone, and ready to score one (or more) for the kingdom. Read this book and get in the game. We need you!
Rating: Summary: all about personal transformation Review: Stop for a moment and consider your life to date. Would you consider it ordinary, mediocre? Have you fallen short of your true potential? Do you have the nagging feeling that, as Mufasa says to Simba in The Lion King, "You are more than what you have become?" If you are ready for a "revolution of the soul"; if you are ready for personal transformation, here's a good place to begin.
McManus shares many amazing personal stories and passages from scripture that point to the importance of discipline - and how it actually frees us rather than binds us. He explores the importance of character in determining our course. We see how we often settle for control of the familiar rather than move on to true freedom. We learn about selflessness, humility, integrity, faith, courage, gratitude, generosity, love, perseverance, wisdom and servanthood.
Do not read this book without a highlighter. There is so much wisdom crammed into these pages that it is impossible to absorb and apply it in one read. This is one of those books that you will return to again and again for its insight, clarity and refreshing bits of humor.

Rating: Summary: Powerful words to live by Review: This book is a reflection of the beauty of a life lived in generous, Christlike character towards every human being; to live a life which transends the monotonous and libelous realities of our age and live to bring life, not death, to those whom God created with passion, skill and love. This is a beautifully powerful book written by a passionate follower of Christ; I strongly suggest you buy this.
Rating: Summary: Erwin's Masterpiece Review: This book is outstanding. McManus once again challenges readers to think about their own lives and how they are living. Using what he calls, "The Character Matrix," he challenges us to go from self-focused slobs to servant-leaders. McManus presents three streams in this journey, greed -> generosity, foolishness -> wisdom, and pride - > courage. Each stream will force you to reflect on what kind of life you are living, and whether you are inwardly or outwardly focused. The key focus of Erwin's book revolves around the fact Jesus washed his disciples feet as he modeled servant-leadership to his followers. McManus argues this model still applies today. I agree. Too many books on leadership talk nothing of character, McManus turns this on its ear. His book is all about character and out of it you will be a better leader. In having the privelege of seeing McManus practice what he preaches, this is a man who is a servant-leader. Erwin pastors a church in Los Angeles called Mosaic, and serves his church well. I cannot give this book a higher recommendation than 5 stars, but it really is a 10. A+ Joseph Dworak
