Rating: Summary: Book helpful to many; but maybe not as many as promised Review: In the preface, the authors declare this book applies to women at any state in life. I was excited to hear this, as I know God is not calling me to married life. However, the overall emphasis IS on the period of a woman's life when she is waiting for a husband. The book tends to generalize many topics, which is sad. I was pleased with the way they carried the biblical theme of Ruth throughout the entire book, but otherwise any metaphorical examples where sparse and underdeveloped. I did not care for the writing style which was used, as it was often dry, and failed to provide vivid word images in critical places. While I have described some of the drawbacks, this book DOES present several good points. I feel it can open a person's eyes to many truths regarding relationships. BUT I believe it should motivate a person to move on to reading the books with specific advice from relationship/marriage specialists such as Dobson and Smalley. Overall, it was a good book, but it often failed to deal with the gritty realities in a provoking way.
Rating: Summary: A Male's Perspective. Review: It has been asked before why a male would read such a book as LADY IN WAITING. My answer to the question is that I am sincerely interested in how the female mind works and what women expect out of a relationship. Of course, I'm often curious as to how correct books like this are concerning what men are really like (or should be like). I've read several books like this and I must say that so far LADY IN WAITING is the best.To begin with the book has a Biblical core, it's written with the Book of Ruth as it's foundation. Many books like this don't have such an indebth Biblical basis. Granted there are a few things one could argue about (I think Ruth's uncovering Boaz's feet wasn't an act of purity, but was actually quite radical and scandlous), but overall the authors are right on the money.Secondly, the book gives a positive view of men and is usually correct about the role of a man in life. Finally, this book doesn't offer false hope. Many books similar to LADY IN WAITING promise that if a women follows such and such steps, she will eventually catch her man. LADY IN WAITING offers no such promises. It is implicit in reminding the reader that only in God can a women be completely made whole, not in a husband and clearly illustrates that not all women will are meant to be married. An enjoyable and informative read, one that females will probably get even more out of than a young bachelor like myself.
Rating: Summary: This book is THE ANSWER to the perfect relationship Review: Lady in Waiting answers prayers and just makes sence. I love it so much that i'm giving to all my friends for Christmas. I give you this garentee- that if you follow this book, you will find YOUR LOVE- Mr Right!
Rating: Summary: I dread having to read the next chapter Review: Our group is going through this book and at chapter 8 I have read enough to form a solid opinion. I wish I liked this book and the accompanying workbook, but it's really bad.The writing is condescending, overwraught ("your heavenly fiance" and "your knight in shining armour"), simplistic and repetitive. If you are looking for a bible study book, keep looking. If you want an excellent book on love relationships, I recommend C.S. Lewis' The four loves.
Rating: Summary: Lady in waiting was inspiring Review: There was some great points brought out in this book, one of the best one's I think was the one about fantasies, if you do a lot of fantasing before marriage you most likely will continue to do so after marriage. Another good point is that you shouldn't try to go places where there are single guys, because if it's meant to be God will make sure it happen. The only problem I had with this book is a statistic that was given in the chapter Lady of Patience, it made me think this book was written for only white ladies.
Rating: Summary: Change of Heart About Dating Review: This book gives a whole new perspective on being single, waiting for the right man, and have the right relationships with guys. I was impressed by the way the authors developed each point with Scripture that was plentiful but not cumbersome. My two favorite chapters were two and four. Chapter 2, the Lady of Diligence, completely changed my views on being single. After reading that chapter, for the first time in my life, I honestly wanted to be single instead of dating because I realized that right now is my chance to do a lot of work for God. Chapter 4, the Lady of Virtue, taught me that God has a lot to do in me before I get into a love relationship, once again encouraging me to remain single for now. One very neat thing about the book is that it is written by women for women. I guarantee that any woman reading this book will find at least two sentences that perfectly illustrate her life. The ideas in the book are very poignant. I have always made guys a priority in my life. This book gave me a whole new outlook on my relationships. I will keep this book with my other keepsakes so that I can look the great concepts up when I find applicable situations in the future!
