Rating: Summary: intercessory prayer Review: I AM AN INTERCESSOR AND THIS WAS ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS I HAVE READ ON PRAYER! I HAVE SEVERAL COPIES AND HAVE GIVEN THEM TO MY FRIENDS,EVEN MY PASTOR. DUTCH SHEETS WILL INSPIRE YOU AND CHALLENGE YOU TO BE ON YOUR FACE DAILY IN PRAYER.ILOVED IT.
Rating: Summary: I would recommend this book. It is a waste of money. Review: I appreciated the idea that Sheets takes the idea of prayer seriously, but I found that when he dabbled in theology, in the early part of the book, he strays from the biblical record. Sheets has a nice conversational style that makes the book easy reading. He also has some gems of insight such as in his analogy of the Holy Spirit as enforcer, his description of Thomas, travailing and the idea of bowls of prayer. I have multiple problems with the book and viewed it overall negatively. Sheets should confine his rambling to prayer and stay away from commentaries on Scripture. Sheets tends to present the cross as an after-thought, rather than the plan instituted before the foundation of the earth. He also make a statement about Adam being an "illusion" of God and goes on to say "God even gave us the ability to crate eternal spirits." I don't know what he means by this, whether he is speaking of procreation or evangelism, but either way it is not true. Only God is eternal. This sounds very much like the Gnostic error. I was also disturbed by the number of times that Sheets says, "Nothing in Scripture says. . . but . . ." He also has a tendency to proof-text. He misuses several texts; he takes text out of their obvious literary and historical context by making them say what they were never designed to say. I was also offended by the hyperbolic and untrue claim at the beginning of one of the chapters, "Warning: This chapter could drastically alter the population of the kingdom of darkness and increase the need for new-convert class." That chapter does not have that kind of spiritual ability. I would recommend this book. It is a waste of money.
Rating: Summary: Life Changing is an understatement! Review: I can't say enough about Dutch's book. I started reading this book on my own and loved it so much I suggested our small group do it as a study. It's been revolutionary for almost everyone in our group. If you've ever wondered why we need to pray, or wondered if your prayers really count - read this book. You will not be disappointed!
Rating: Summary: The most refreshing, thought-provoking book on prayer. Review: I have read many books on prayer throughout my years as a Christian. Nothing in my Bible College or Seminary training, nor in all the other books on this subject, has been as refreshing and thought-provoking. It has rekindled my prayer life .
Rating: Summary: One of the most dynamic Bible teachers of our time! Review: I took Dutch's class on intercessory prayer at Christian Life School of Theology in 1992. The book is awesome and will revolutionize your prayer life! I gained a whole new perspective and understanding of what intercessory prayer is and how powerful it is. Dutch is an excellent teacher. I wholeheartedly recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: There simply isn't a better book on the subject of Prayer Review: I'm not sure where the previous comments came from regarding this book straying from the biblical record - it simply isn't true - or either that, they didn't read the book. Dutch Sheet's book, Intecessory Prayer is simply the most definiative AND bibically sound book on prayer that there is today - so much so, that I would call it a DEFINITAVE WORK. There are many other very good books on prayer out there, but this book provides a theologically sound explanation of prayer which almost every Christian can apply immediately, leading them to a more fullilling prayer life. This revelatory information contained in this book has lifted my prayer life to a new level - I'll never be the same. Thanks Dutch!
Rating: Summary: Should be mandatory reading for intecessory groups! Review: I'm one of those people who rarely lends out the books that I purchase but rather tend to add them to my own personal reference library. "Intercessory Prayer" is different; much different. I've loaned this book to several people in our church intercessory prayer group and each of them has agreed that it provides some much needed, life-changing, mind-opening key truths about our role in this PARTNERSHIP with God. Dutch Sheets has done a tremendous job of illuminating the truth that God never intended prayer, especially intercessory prayer, to be a spectator sport.

Rating: Summary: MONUMENTAL CHANGES Review: I've read over this book several times and am still learning. It is like sitting down to a banquet of meat, spiritually, that is. Dutch sheets adds more depth and dimension to the Scriptures by delving into the etymological origins of the words. It's a KEEPER.
