Review: 4-11-99 This book is not for those who wish a quick fix. It is the compiling of one mans ministry over 20 years of experience are recorded here. It is a guide that will allow you to follow in the footsteps of intercession. Intercession is not easy, it is the hardest work that you will ever be involved in, because it asks you to be a servant of all. The author deals with the difficulty but gives you an aswer that is not only practicle but functional... You do not have to be a scholar to understand the terminology, and all of the explanantions are given clearly and concisely. I have given this book to over 50 people and used it as an instructional aid in teaching on prayer in my Congregation, it changed and touched the lives of all those who participated. If you are looking for practical help this book is the guide.

Review: After reading many books and receiving theoretical, nebulous pieces of information on prayer, I have finally found a book that is full of practical guidelines on the subject. This book has so stretched and challenged me and changed my life that I have recommended it to nearly everyone I know. Kudos to Dutch Sheets for allowing God to use him in this endeavor.

Review: although i may not agree with everything he says, dutch sheets has definitely inspired and enlightened me in the realm of prayer. sheets shows that our God-given authority in prayer invites God to exercise his victory- to demonstrate that the battle has already been won by Jesus. definitely the most eye-opening book that i've read on prayer.

Review: Dutch gives a good solid basis (according to Scripture) on the 'whys' of prayer. This book has opened my eyes and changed the way I see prayer and the power of prayer. As for previous comments that it is not Biblically sound, the place I purchased this book would never have it available in their ministry if it wasn't. Thank you Dutch Sheets.

Review: Dutch Sheets brings to light the issue of God's chosen partnership with us. I hadn't realized the power in prayer until I read this book. It brought out to me that the relationship with my Lord is vital to the situations around me daily and the well-being of the world. It is clear that God uses His people in relationship through prayer (among other things) to bring His glory to the earth. This book sculpted my view of that relationship. YOU GOTTA READ IT!

Summary: Why we need to pray
Review: Dutch sheets does an excellent job of answering the many question we have about the necessity of prayer. His explanation of why we need to pray if God is sovereign has really helped me in my own prayer life. I do feel that the anecdotes are a bit frequent, and some scripture doesn't seem to have the intention he proclaims, but this book is a must for the Christian who needs the impetus to pray without ceasing.

Review: Every secret question I have ever had about prayer and my search for answers to many peoples hurts have been recorded for my eyes to read in Dutch's book. This is the most organized, informative, stress relieving book on prayer I have ever read. It truly is an extraordinarily orderly book for people who have unorderly prayer habits.

Summary: I believe in prayer, but not in this book
Review: I am an evangelical pastor who fervently believes in prayer, so I began reading this book with an expectant heart, but I was disappointed with the inadequate theology expressed by Sheets. Sheets writes with a humorous, engaging style, and this book is easy to read, but as I read, I became more and more uneasy with what I was reading. He does a wonderful job challenging us to have faith when we pray, which is all true. However, I kept waiting for him to deal with the issue of the will of God in prayer. It never came. Sheets does not wrestle with the issue of Jesus' statement in Gethsemane, "Thy will be done." He does not explain the meaning of praying in Jesus' name as praying in the character and will of God. He ignores 1 John 5:14. It's too bad, because he missed an opportunity to teach his readers that by getting to know God better and know His will, we could pray with greater power and faith.
As balance to this book, I would recommend the classic books by Ole Hallesby, Watchman Nee, and Richard Foster, all who believe in the power of prayer in faith, but also deal with the disappointments some people feel in their prayers and how to overcome them.
