Rating: Summary: Changed my life! Review: This book is good for those of us who are not yet complete in our faith. It shows us that God knows us well enough to guide us where we need to go to make us like Him. Definatly worth reading!
Rating: Summary: Eat This, It*s Good For You Review: This is a spiritual and uplifting book. It is also an overly sweet and slightly preachy book. I admit from the (paperback) cover I was hoping for the tale of a doe deer, *at play in the Fields of the Lord*. Instead, it is a well-meant, if vaguely generic, journey of a timid girl*s journey to Christ. Everyone bears a descriptive Pilgrims-Progress name such as the girl Much-Afraid, the odious Lord Craven, the quiet mountain guides Sorrow & Suffering, the spirited Mrs.Valiant, etc. The girl must face many challenges, of course, must have her faith tested, of course, must fall away from the path, of course. All this is encouraging for both the novice and the longterm Christian; yet it will not be to all tastes. I have seen a similar treatment in CS Lewis* The Pilgrim*s Regress, but with stronger results. This book is encouraging, yet I find it on the level of a meal made up of mainly broccoli, whole-wheat bread, brown rice, and tofu: It is good, it is filling, but is that all there is? A good book, but left to those who enjoy that sort of meal.
Rating: Summary: Amazing! Review: What words can really describe this book? It really was the very best I have ever read and is a must read for ANYBODY at all. It showed all of the aspects of God's love and showed that even those who are weak and crippled spiritually can raise up with Jesus at their side and gain hind's feet. A true light in a time of darkness, I would give it a hundred stars if possible.
Rating: Summary: spiritual classic Review: This languished on my shelf because I thought that it was so hokey. Today, it has become part of my thought and a point of reference for some spiritual experiences. I especially love the passage about the path that appears to lead away from the mountains but actually goes toward them. There is a lot of hope and wisdom in this book. A good beginning as well as a companion on your spiritual journey. Captures the essence of it unlike no other book.
Rating: Summary: Encouraging, inspiring, comforting - for all Christians. Review: This delightful allegory is a wonderful primer for new Christians and a rewarding pick-me-up for any Christian who has ever become discouraged. As the reader identifies with the main character Much Afraid, he finds that the temptations and frightening threats that we encounter in our lives are easily thwarted by calling on The Chief Shepherd. It is comforting to know that He is ever available, ready to appear the instant we call upon Him. I used the (abridged) audio tape version for my 5-6 grade Sunday School class and the children were riveted to the story from beginning to end. This book is a great lead-in to John Bunyan's "The Pilgrim's Progress."
Rating: Summary: Encouragement with a Challenge Review: Encouragement and Direction are only two of the assets readers gain through reading HIND'S FEET ON HIGH PLACES. Hurnard has not only incorporated spiritual teachings into the story of one's journey of getting closer to the Lord, but also words of wisdom the reader will be able to use in her daily life. This book both challenges and encourages readers in their Christian walk with our loving, majestical, and powerful savior Jesus Christ.
Rating: Summary: One of the best books I have ever had the pleasure to read. Review: Have you ever felt like you were alone? That it was too scary to trust anyone else? But you still took the leap of faith and did it anyway. This book is about you. And me. And anyone who has ever felt alone....lost....afraid. It is about reaching new heights, and believing in yourself. It is about trusting that God will provide a way if we are willing to start on the journey.
Rating: Summary: God's gace... Review: This book is beautifully written and Hurnard does a great job at painting a vivid picture of how God's grace sustains Christians...often a very hard thing to articulate, Hurnard puts pictures where words fail. Hinds' Feet also shows how a grace filled Christian walk is also accompanied with suffering and sorrow. Hurnard shows how God can wrap his loving purpose around our brokenness and bring meaning, purpose and even joy and peace into the most difficult places, ultimately transforming us when we get to the "High Places" (heaven). Definitly worth reading.
Rating: Summary: Lifting us up where we belong! Review: I just bought a copy of the new Jars of Clay edition of Hinds Feet on High Places. The new Jars album, Much Afraid, is based on the main character of this story. This book most reminded me of Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress, in that it shows how in our journey of life, we must pass through many trials and lessons, in order to learn and grow in God in preparation to climb with Him to the high mountains.
Rating: Summary: Truely Wonderful Review: This book gave you a wonderful example of how you learn to die to self while being prepared to be the Bride of Christ. If you have ever needed to learn how to walk in faith you can identify with the main character of this book. It was a good read.
