Summary: ...a guide for searchers
Review: In reviewing a book like this, I don't really believe that one can objectively look at it's significance from purely a social sense. The true significance of a work like this is how it causes a person to look introspectively. I cannot type long and complicated assertations as to whether or not Yancey has "revealed" the true Christ. I can only say that my eyes have been opened as well as my heart. It is wonderful to read something so intimate and personal as a person's spiritual pilgrammage. Thank you for sharing your Jesus with all of us Philip.

Summary: One of the BEST! expositions on Jesus.
Review: Yancey's The Jesus I Never Knew is perhaps one of the best expositions on Jesus I have read. Among the clouds of confusion, obscurity, and doubt caused by yet another quest for the historical Jesus, Yancey pilots a clear, comprehensive, and enlighting book on the person of Christ. Yancey explores who Christ was, why He came, and what He left behind. Each section is coated with scholarship and excellence which allows for an easy read to both scholars and lay persons. If you want a clear picture of Christ, begin with the New Testament and don't leave out Philip Yancey's The Jesus I Never Knew.

Summary: This Book Will Revive the Soul of the Downtrodden Christian
Review: Unbelievable! Yancey has brought Jesus to life in a way that seemed unfathomable. This isn't a "popcorn Christian" rendition on Jesus' life. It is truly a life changer. Read it. Hope has been restored to me.

Summary: Yancey "gets it" and it will change your perception forever
Review: Although there is never any substitute for the written WORD, sometimes we go to that WORD with our preconcieved notions, and therefore read our notions into the text, Yancey gets you to take the guard off and read the Gospels as if you were reading them for the first time. Sometimes we have becomed so "churched" we forget that we belong to Jesus. This is by far the best modern book (like I said there is no substitute for the Word, even Yancey would agree with that)on Christian living I have ever read. I would personally like to thanks Mr. Yancey for taking the prejudices off my interpretation of the gospels, and making me see Jesus for who he really is.

Summary: Awesome book
Review: This is the book that got me started on my Christian walk. Mr. Yancey has a unique but honest way of looking at things. This book made me see Jesus as he was on this earth, an approach I had never attempted. I've read this book 3 times and have recommended to every person I know.

Summary: Excellent resource for adult SS classes or study groups
Review: The use of movie clips adds so much to each of the fourteen sessions. I'm about 2/3 through presenting the series, with the class size almost doubling over the first 9 weeks, from 25 to about 45. Everyone finds it one of the best studies we've ever undertaken. I would highly recommend it for any teacher of adults or young adults.

Summary: The best book I have ever read; of any type.
Review: I pray that I do not offend anyone by saying that Phillip Yancey reminds me of a "modern day" John The Baptist. Preparing the way for the Lord upon His second coming. This book is uniquely and masterfully done; a must for the modern day Christian who yearns for a better relationship with Jesus Christ. I thank God in my prayers for Phillip Yancey.

Summary: Author needs to keep looking. He's not there yet.
Review: Here we go again. Another "bright, intellectual" who has forgotten the most important words of Jesus. "God is a spirit and those who worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth." If Mr. Yancey really wants to "Know Jesus" he must seek him with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. If he is dilligent, the "true nature" of Jesus will be revealed to him. The greatest and only book ever written to help us know and understand Jesus is the Holy Bible. It does not need this addendum by Mr. Yancey.

Summary: A good start
Review: Well Yancy is one of the first authors in recent years to begin to capture that missing something from Christianity. I was particularly impressed with his encapsulation of Tolstoy's work giving it it's proper place, as Gandhi also saw it. Christianity is much more than what we see at church. I hope with Yancy that we begin to follow Christ and do more than believe in him, thankful to his Grace so that we can even believe. I am an avid reader and learner. This book ranks right up with Tolstoy, Terresa, Gandhi, Sheets, and Franjapane. I personally believe this work is very much in harmony with our Anabaptist roots.
