Summary: A joy and revelation to read.
Review: The Yanceys have produced a wonderful and fresh reappraisal of Jesus the man. A well deserved award-winning work. With this and the wonderful "The Autobiography of Jesus of Nazareth and the Missing years" by Richard G. Patton, we as readers have had a vintage year. In reading both these books, you should check your preconceptions at the door. The entrance ticket will be more than justified.

Summary: The Jesus YOU Never Knew
Review: Yancey's fresh perspective on the life of Jesus has forever changed my view of Christ. This book challenges you in a subtle way to re-evaluate the way you've thought about Jesus. He's so much more than the little cut-out flannelgraph person you learned about in Sunday School! A must read!!

Summary: A rare peak at the humanity of both subject and author.
Review: Mr. Yancey has done something no other writer has. He's helped me understand Jesus as a "human being" with very human characteristics -- humor, impatience, love, sadness and fear. In Yancey's rendition, Jesus is not 10-feet tall, blond and blue-eyed. Watch the nightly news; see a young Isreali or Palestinian man; a common man; then you see what both his enemies and followers saw. Yancey has taken me beyond the religious portraits of my youth to see the human and spiritual Jesus. The one that I can begin to understand and, perhaps, follow.

Summary: OUTSTANDING
Review: This book has answered questions for me that no one, not even many ministers, have been able to answer for me. In my time of doubt, "The Jesus I Never Knew" has lifted me up. Mr. Yancy, thank you.

Summary: Surprised & challenged by new paradigms for viewing Christ!
Review: Yah! What could possibly be added to the volumes that have already been written on this topic! Yancey wastes no time getting my attention by starting with secular films rather than with the Bible. His transparency and sometimes painful honesty helped me to see and, at least, temporarily put down, my own previously unquestioned assumptions and prejudices as I have thought of Christ. Two comments helped me to begin to get a fresh feel for this God-man who demonstrated once and for all what God is really like: "He never turned down a dinner invitation" and "He never turned down a direct request for healing." Opps! Better be careful what you said in His presence. Be careful whom you invited as dinner guests with Him: don't bring the judgemental or easily offended, because they will be confronted with a Person who explodes out of every box that is prepared for Him--including the toomb. Another observation brought fresh insight: "Because He ate with so many different types of people, Jesus had a

Summary: Yancey's Jesus
Review: Philip Yancey makes even those who have spent years walking aside their Savior to question whether the Savior with whom they have been walking is the Jesus of Nazareth found in the Bible. Anyone who reads this book will realize and recognize that Christians have been taught to follow a Jesus who is different from the Jesus in the New Testament. Yancey also responds to some of the age old questions and arguments against a Resurrected, Living Lord. The Jesus that Yancey did not know is the Jesus that many do not know. If anyone wants to meet Jesus without the biases of critics and zealots, read _The Jesus I Never Knew_.

Summary: As always, Philip Yancy is the best. A marvelous book.
Review: Yancy brings us face to face with the Jesus of the New Testament who is very human and very God. A must read for every believer who wants to know Him in a richer, deeper way.

Summary: Commentary of Jesus
Review: I was slightly disappointed reading this book. Expecting to find out WHO Jesus was, I found a commentary of WHAT Jesus did. If you are after a COMMENTARY of Jesus' life, then this is the book, but don't expect more like I did

Summary: The audio version is watered down. READ THE BOOK!
Review: A wonderful job by Yancey. You can't help feeling closer to Jesus. A careful magnification of the humanity and spirituality of the God-Man in a way that doesn't disturb scripture. You will be taken back to that historic time frame as an observer. The author brings to light many truths that diplay the feelings and the incredible Love of Jesus, that will leave you wanting to love him back all the more!

Summary: Cassette is abridged, not as insightful as the book.
Review: I heard the book read over the radio and it said much more than the audio cassette. I felt that the title of the cassette should be "The Jesus We've All Heard About." I am going to order the book
