Summary: Differant viewpoints but still a good book.
Review: I have attended Woodland Hills Church where Pastor Greg Boyd speaks and like it alot. I have got alot out of what he says. I read the book and enjoyed it even though I did not agree with the foreknowledge issue. I feel it would be a complete waste of time to leap into some dicussion about this topic simply because I have my own opinions and refuse to judge the man and his heart based on one differant viewpoint. I leave it up to God and pray that God deals with him on it. He is a good man and God still speaks through him. Alot of people find it fun to run around carry on about this mistake and that mistake someone made but that is wrong.

Summary: Foreknowledge does not necessairly mean Predestination.
Review: Although I have not read this book (and therefore obviously cannot offer a review of it ;), I feel compelled to offer my opinion on the subject of God's omnipotence. C.S. Lewis says in Mere Christianity that if you consider the idea that God is outside of time (for him all times are one), which seems to make sense in the context that he is eternal and unchangeable, than of course he knows the future. However, that does not affect your ability to make your own choices and exercise your free will. Can you see the truth in this?

Summary: interesting,loving and convincing
Review: I got the chinese version of this book from Taiwan first, and before I finished it I decided to find the English "origin" from Amazon so I can share this interesting book with my American friends---I already 14 copies so far----As a believer for over 15 years I think the greatest thing is the on-going personal relationship with the Creator Himself, so to myself, since the mysterious experience of rebirth ,those tough questions such as in this book do exist in my mind ,too. but it never really troubled my heart/soul too much. However,I was still so amazed that how "nutritious" and interesting this book was to me.And to many of my still-unbelieving friends ,I felt so excited that finally I got a powerful tool to introduce my Savior to them----because I do think for any seeking /still doubting soul, this is simply an interesting book to read----althought I am NOT sure if all Dr.Boyd's answers are"THE TRUTH'--as a human being with all kinds of weakness and limitations, who dare to say that he understand the mystery of life, death, Creator, heaven and hell---100%? We don't even understand ourselves sometimes---HOWEVER,in this outstanding book, at least Dr.Boyd fooer some VERY INTERESTING,and POSSIBLE "guess".--and It's very convincing, too. It's The Creator's infinite wisdom and love to create us and give us the most mysterious free will/freedom of choice that caused (and still causing) somuch trouble and fun on this earth---including all these extreme/different reviews of the same book HERE! ---my last word, thank you both father and son Boyds for such a great book--the Chinese(my mother languege) versions are very faithful and outstanding ,too.

Summary: Packaged, Accessible Theology
Review: This is far and beyond the most accessible book on theology I've ever found (though I haven't read too many).

It adeptly answers the Problem of Evil question, evil from the supposedly good, and (if I remember correctly) the humanity of Jesus. I had many of the same conclusions Boyd did; it took me years to reach them.

My biggest complaint is that Boyd never addresses the holy Trinity.

I consider this mandatory for any Christian who wonders about faith, and would recommend it to a variety of people who have quesions about Christianity.

Summary: Boyd Compromises Scripture for love of father
Review: Though there is much good in this book, it is disturbing that Dr. Boyd compromises Scripture out of love for his father. In an effort to alleviate one of the obstacles keeping his father from embracing Christianity, Boyd responds that God did not know the future choices Hitler would make when God created him. Jesus's interaction with Peter at the Last Supper is just one example showing us that this is not true. Jesus knew that Peter would disown him, yet was already praying that Peter would strengthen the others after he had turned back. Jesus' forknowledge enables him to be more personal, not impersonal as Dr. Boyd's father feared. In our love for the lost, we must guard against the temptation to make God into something less than He is.

Summary: A good, honest group of questions, but several wrong answers
Review: What was so wonderful about the book was the sweetness of the "father and son" talks and feelings that were aroused between the two. I liked that a father and son's letters were put together in a book. I liked that the father and son asked questions and gave answers some people were or are afraid to ask.

I didn't like that fact that, when his dad is faced with a God who has created a hell to send people, that the son brushes off hell with annihilationism. Instead of facing the question, he turns to what some people claim is in the Bible and tells his dad not to worry about it because there is some proof that God won't torture people forever. I don't have ALL the answers, but that's what the Bible says - that the unsaved will be cast into the Lake of Fire. The author is, in my view, misleading, and didn't face up to his father's quesiton.

Also, and I can't decied whether this is worse than the annihilation thing or not, but the son tells his father that God doesn't know everything.... That He CAN'T know everything!

If you want to powder down your theology and are looking for easy answers, read the book and get what you can from it. If you are looking for truth and actual Biblical doctrine, you may want to go someplace else. This book could hurt you in the long run, because of the skewed ideas of Dr. Boyd.

Summary: No Bad Tree Can Bear Good Fruit
Review: In 'Letters . . .', Ed Boyd posed questions which I had been afraid to ask, but without those answers I was distrustful of God. Because of the "problem of evil", I always had reservations about the character of God, and although there will probably always be some lingering questions, my relationship with God is now more vulnerable, real, transforming, and fulfilling. I was so grateful for this book.

Summary: WONDERFUL & HONEST
Review: During the past 2 years I have read approximately 100 books concerning the faith and creation. Of these, 12 have been works of apologetics. Due to its simplicity and pure theological appeal, this is absouldtely my favorite. And this is more exceptional when viewed within the scholars of the field, McDowell, Bloomberg, Geisler, Kreeft, Lewis, etc. THANK YOU FOR THE COLLECTION!

Summary: Yea thinking about God is good
Review: I grew up in a Christian family and a wonderful spiritfilled Church but I always had very tough questions about God, the Bible, and Christianity. It came to the point where it was clear that if reasonable answers to these questions couln't be found then beliving in the Christian God would be blind foolishness. Unfortuatly when i tried to take my questions (some of them were very angry and dificult) to my parents and church leaders i was met by two things. First was a sort of attitude that questioning things was bad, it ment i didn't have enough faith. I think that this response exists because they had a terible fear inside of them that Christianity REALY isn't true and that if any one realy examins it criticly the jig will be up. second i found that the people i was going to, although they were spirit filled saved wonderful people, wern't qualified to answer them. Dr. Boyd belives that questions are the way to truth. I now have the wonderful privilage of being blessed by him each sunday as i attend the church were he serves as one of many passionate pastors. I have since learned how he has been in the same contipalative wonderment about his faith as I have been. While everyone might not need to use there mind to discover the truth of christianity, it is one of the truth finding tools God has giving us. Dr. Boyd and his father have helped me to use mine and now i experince something so wonderful-confedence that Christianity is true, something i didn't have before. I thank God every time i think of this book and it's ministry!

Summary: very readable - very convincing
Review: Boyd is incredibly thoughtful and loving in his conversations with his father, as they both explore some of life's toughest issues. It is an awesome privilege to eavesdrop in on their conversations, and an incredible tool to offer to someone in your life who is pondering these deep thoughts, as well.
