Summary: I'm not alone when I'm with Healing After Loss
Review: My husband of only 19 yrs. died 10 days after a work-related accident. We had no children and the house is so unbelieveably empty. People don't know what to say so they say nothing and leave me grieving alone. Someone gave me her copy of Healing After Loss saying she needed it back when I was thru with it. I had it only a few days when I knew I had to have my own copy. Ms. Hickman is able to identify my feelings and console me thru her words. Her short, but to-the-point, reflections of pain and unbearable loss recognize and validate what I am experiencing and incorporate, without any pressure to 'get over it' quickly, a gentle support like an arm around my shoulders holding me together until I can support myself. Anyone searching for 'the right words' to say to a grief stricken friend or relative should not hesitate to get this small book of special wisdom for their use and that of the bereaved.

Summary: Healing After Loss
Review: This book has brought me so much comfort. I lost my 12 1/2 year old Yellow Labrador in January 2002. He had a long wonderful life, but his absence has been extremely painful. I found this book about a week after his death and still read it every morning. This book gave me the freedom to know it's ok to feel so sad and to take the time to heal. Thank you for this great gift of comfort Martha Hickman. I lost my precious child too.

Summary: Very helpful as the thoughts are concise and brief.
Review: This book is one that can be picked up for daily meditations that can be read in a minute, but helps to get through a certain aspect of grieving with the backdrop of Christian hope. Even non-religious folks will find consolation and clear thinking in the meditations.

Summary: Generous, comforting, healing, words for the broken hearted
Review: This book speaks to the heart. Feel free to give it to anyone experiencing the pain of loss. It transcends religious differences and tenderly guides the grieving heart through the myriad of confusing feelings and unspeakable pain that comes with great loss. This book is my daily companion on the path of suffering and recovery following the death of my sweet daughter.

Summary: Comforting
Review: This is a wonderful little book with a thought for each day. It is small enough to keep by the bedside. I found comfort in it, reading a passage each night.

It makes a nice gift for someone who has suffered a loss. It does not need to be given right away however, as I think people need time to recover from the shock of a loss before considering getting through the grieving process.

Summary: A Daily Friend
Review: This little book has been my constant companion in the first year following the loss of my son. This is *the* book to give anyone you know who has experienced the death of a loved one. The quotations from other writers and the author's comments seem to gently bring me closer to peace and solace with the passage of each day. Buy this book. Give this book as a gift instead of flowers or a casserole when someone you know is overcome with grief.
