Rating: Summary: Amazing Grace, Grace Review: I am occasionally afraid of christian. I am a christian. So I can't be free of it. Because more having knowledge about Bible, more criticizing other persons skillfully. This book is a kind of impact. I want to be a christian of grace. Thank you, Phillip Yancey. I write a book review in a monthly magazine in Korea. In this month I wrote about this book.
Rating: Summary: Powerful Message of Love Review: Phillip Yancy displays his brilliance at exploring the words and life of Christ through this awesome book. His parallels to contemporary life give further strength to the power of grace. He further goes on to dive into such controversial issues as abortion, homosexuality, and the lives of our leaders, displaying how grace is ceratinly intertwined in these issues. His message of love reminds us all why Jesus gave His life for us, and why we must never cease to be amazed at this amazing and undeserved (yet given) gift. To fathom the love of God as Yancy writes simply will leave you speechless.
Rating: Summary: So that's what grace looks like! Review: This book is a must for evangelical Christians. Yancey spends very little time defining the word grace and arguing theological fine-points, but gives a very practical guide to grace in real-life settings. His chapters on forgiveness, ungrace and grace loopholes are powerful. What is the one thing that sets Christianity apart from all other world religions? Grace. If the church could really get a hold of that, people would be attracted to us, not pushed further away because of us.
Rating: Summary: God's Grace is the KEY Review: My sister purchased this book for my husband and few years ago. Since then it has been passed between at least 20 of our friends. Each one has expressed their sincere gratitude to us for allowing them to borrow it. If you want to give someone a special gift, give them the gift of this book which clearly reveals God's grace and forgiveness like they have never seen before. For me, it erased so many guilt-ridden issues I felt for years.
Rating: Summary: A MOST IMPORTANT BOOK ABOUT THE MOST IMPORTANT TOPIC... Review: I've read this book several times: it's like fresh dew for the spirit and soul. Yancey got it totally right on the MOST IMPORTANT CONCEPT in Christianity and religion: GOD'S GRACE: the essence of Divine Love and Redemption. If you want to know why GENUINE Christianity is unique and wonderful: read this book.
Rating: Summary: What's So Amazing About Grace? Review: This is a marvelous book about grace -- insightful, provocative and, at times, unnerving. It causes longtime Christians to think about what they believe and compare it to how they actually live. It is easily understandable to people who are new Christians and to people who are non-Christians. The book is filled with anecdotes that illustrate the power of grace. It has great breadth, as Yancey quotes many authorties about the concept of grace. Yancey's strength is combining his own personal insights, which are considerable, with others. My measure of a good book is how many passages I underline. I marked up this book like I was studying for a test. Yancey's writing style makes this book a joy to read. I'm sure I will return to it many times.
Rating: Summary: Great book for Christains and Non-Christains Alike Review: This book was given to me by a very close friend. This is the best book I have read (bible excepted). It is easy to read and provides an uplifting look at how life is. Forgiveness is the key concept here and acceptance of this is shown as crucial. The illustrations backing up points mentioned is extremely well done.
Rating: Summary: Good book to show us how great the grace that Jesus gave us Review: I love to read this book. In it you can see how difficult to give grace to others that has hurt us, it is so unfair. But this book will bring us to understand how God's love is bigger than all the hurt and pain that we gave to HIM. I recommend all Christian to read this book. Philip Yancey is a great author with the talent to bring such wonderful and heavenly concept to this earth.
Rating: Summary: The doctrine of Christianity we've forgotten Review: This is a book one have to see. Yancey opens my eyes how to see a human being as a human being. He shows us the world without grace and love we're living in. More than that, he helps us to find the human in ourselves. We talk a lot about false teachers, false churches, but we abandon the second core of Christianity... grace and love < the first one is Christ >. If you want to change the world, start it by reading this book
Rating: Summary: Second in all of my reading, first being the Bible. Review: I have a small library of books that I have read in College and have read many since then. "What's so amazing about grace" has literally been life changing for me. I have for 30 years tried to earn "brownie points" with God. It was through Yancey's book that I found the freedom to breathe in God's true grace and still strive to live holy but this time only through what he does in me, not what I can do for him. I know this book will be a life changer for you as well. Jesus truly reached out his hands on the cross offering you and I grace that will draw us closer to him. Enjoy!
