Summary: Great Fundamental Bible!
Review: I have spent a great deal of time, looking for the perfect Bible. Without a doubt, this is the greatest study Bible, I have found. Not only is it a great price, but the commentaries are fantastic, and the print size is very good.
The study notes are very conservative, and do not, give any exagerated opinions. Great Bible.

Summary: Informative, resourceful, affordable.
Review: I highly recommend the Nelson KJV Study Bible. Its many features include book introductions, outlines, references, annotations, maps in the text, red letters, 'Doctrinal Footnotes,' 'Personality Profiles,' and 'Archaelogical Sites,' all of which are easy to read and understand and provide a rich background and context for biblical events. The pages are well laid-out, with an easy-to-read type-face on medium-weight paper, bound in genuine leather with the traditional 'Holy Bible' stamped in gold on the front. With resources rivaling the Ryrie Study Bible, Nelson's King James Study Bible is well worth the modest price.

Summary: The best study Bible out there.
Review: I luv the amount of research that went into this Bible. Practically any word that could not be understood was thoroughly explained, and the summaries of every book was a great tool to use to get a grasp of what the author is talking about if you are unfirmiliar with what is going on.

Summary: Must Get if you're a new Christian or serious disciple
Review: If you were to have only one study Bible, this is it. It is packed with footnotes, references, doctrinal notes, maps, outlines, charts, personality profiles, archaeological facts, and a huge concordance. The center column includes references and also explanations of difficult words or phrases and the footnotes expand on the significance of the verses in the text. The importance of sound doctrine is emphasized, with an index to doctrinal pathes that take you from verse to verse of Scripture that clarifies and unlocks the meaning of theological truth. For example, the "Doctrine of Salvation" steps through "Gospel", "Salvation", "Reconciliation", "Propitiation", ..., touching on all of the facets of Salvation. To me, this is the most important and unique feature in this heavily laden feature-packed Study Bible. I've bought one for myself and one for my daughter. We plan on going through it together, and it should last a lifetime.

Summary: The Greatest Work Ever Created
Review: It doesn't matter who you ask, Christians and non-Christians alike; all have heard of the best selling book in the history of mankind. Even those who are not of Christian faith have, at a minimum, heard of it. It can be read for entertainment purposes, educational, or even as a historical document in some cases. Personally I have found it useful in all three categories. However, I found that much of the Old Testament, with its endless lists of names and confusing chronology of events, could make dry and tedious reading. In this respect readers may find it more useful to consider the Bible not as a whole but as a group of separate books, each connected only by a loose strand of commonality. Another potential downfall; the old English in the King James Version is extremely outdated. Fortunately there are newer versions with modern translations and terminology. Furthermore, the English translation, such as the King James Version, may have lost some of their original meaning in the conversion between languages. However, these faults are insignificant compared to the pure mastery of the Bible as a whole..

Summary: Individual Translations For Everyone.
Review: Just give me the translation Jesus used. Oh, wait. Jesus didn't have a Bible- it was a collection of writings collected by a bunch of priests at the Council of Nicea in about 3-500 CE/AD!

Still- just give me the one Jesus used.

Summary: terrible translation
Review: Religious aspects aside, this is a scholarly bad text. It cuts out large portions of the written text, and in translating it into "kings english" it simply glosses over many details and turns every mention of any devine power into "god". There are much better, and far more accurate translations.

Summary: Probably the best King James study Bible you can get
Review: Right up front you should know that the commentary in this edition is "fundamentalist" and mostly Baptist, heavily biased in favor of the literal truth of everything in the Bible. If you share that point of view, you'll love everything about this edition, and you'd probably give it five stars.

I'm not a Baptist or a fundamentalist. I'm a lifelong Lutheran, and I don't see any need to waste ink insisting on the literal truth of the Creation story or the Mosaic authorship of the Pentateuch. But, putting aside my doctrinal prejudices, I find this edition so useful that I wouldn't be without it.

Aside from the small core of Baptist dogma and fundamentalist apologetics, the real mission of the commentary is to help you understand the Christian Bible on its own terms. In that it succeeds much better than "liberal" study Bibles, some of which seem mostly interested in endless and useless speculation on text sources. Whatever your position in the Christian spectrum, from far right to far left, you'll find all the help you need to understand the text itself--historical background, outlines, comparisons with other illuminating passages in Scripture, and genuinely helpful translation notes.

If you love the King James Version, this is the edition that best helps you read it with complete understanding. Its great strength is that it gives you the tools you need for drawing your own conclusions. If you happen to disagree with the editors' ideas of doctrine, you can still thank them for illuminating the text so thoroughly that you have a good basis for disagreeing with them.

In short, you probably can't find a better King James study Bible than this. My only reservations have to do with its fundamentalist bias, and I find that bias easy to forgive for the sake of the many virtues of this edition.
