Rating: Summary: It tellls good things about Angels, But it has bad parts Review: The reason I think some parts are wrong is because it might lead people into believeing that Angels are better and more poweful thsn their creature God. People get images of Angels as sweet,Graceful creatures but than God gets the image of a huge stuborn guy that sends people to Hell. Jess B
Rating: Summary: The final word on angels in myth, history, and legend. Review: There's a lot of angel books out there, all claiming to give knowledge of "all the angels" that exist (or don't exist, depending on whom you ask). But upon taking a closer look, they're all either viewed from an obviously biased religious view, or a New-Agey view, hinting at aliens and other nonsense. The Dictionary of Angels takes the scientific approach, objectively examining all the sources and contributing little in the way of personal commentary. Whether or not they exist, this reference work has yet to be topped as the guide to angels, fallen or otherwise.
Rating: Summary: For the believer or the non believer. Review: This book has listed every angel I have looked for, and does so from a non-biased point of view. It is an excellant reference book.
Rating: Summary: Obviously the result of a Life's labour in Angelology Review: This book has the scholarly touch to it; written over 17 years and with meticulous attention to detail over nearly 400 pages. It is meant as a sourcebook, and does not attempt to push any particular religious view. However, its basis is mainly along Christian-related themes, and if this is acknowledged from the start, it comes over as a complete and painstaking compilation of angel and demon folklore and historical allegory. The illustrations have been also painstakingly gathered, and the ideas hinted at from the pictures and text combined are instructive as to the possibilities both good and evil in the angel world. The book has a marvellous Appendix, which relates many historical features of the angels and Archangels, some of which I recognise in today's New Age literature. For example, in the Bible's book of Revelation (verse 2, chapter 8) is the suggestion there are seven Archangels. We have the old biblical quote: "And I saw the seven Angels who stand before God; And to them were given seven trumpets." There are many different accounts of these Archangels. The one used often nowadays in New Age spiritual texts is given in this book as from the Pseudo-Dionysian school and surprisingly perhaps, lists the Archangels in the modern way. This book rightly states (I believe) that the vast study of Christian Angelology starts with Pseudo-Dionysius; a convert and confidant of St Paul the Apostle. His hierarchy of Angels was the basis of all of the succeeding 1,500 years of Christian writings on the subject. Many of these ideas of Angel hierarchies are not at odds with modern New Age ideas. Angels such as Powers, Virtues, Principalities etc are similar to the Beings described in modern books as guardians of public companies or of cities. The Christian lore in this respect seems not far from the truth at least.
Rating: Summary: Unbelievably comprehensive and detailed Review: This book is an amazing collection of information on everything and anything to do with angels. From comparisons of names across various texts and religions, to an easy alphabetical listing of angels and their roles, this book is a must-have for anyone interested in angels, occult, and celestial magicks. It has such a solid foundation of information that one can't help but learn a great deal from a reading of it, added to it's wonderful use as a reference-at-hand guide.I was simply floored with this book and highly recommend it to any magicakal reference library.
Rating: Summary: A wonderful, informative, complete reference book. Review: This book is beautifully illustrated, but the images are nothing compared to the content. I have found this book to be a great help in research and with satisfying my curiosity. This is the one book you absolutely MUST have if you are interested in angels -- the REAL ones.

Rating: Summary: A Dictionary of Angels--the ultimate guide Review: This is a must read for all students of theology and history. Drawing from sacred texts all over the world, Gustav Davidson writes a compelling book that is extremely difficult (if not impossible) to put down once you start reading. The introduction alone was a wealth of information,.... Pretty heavy reading--but well worth the effort. This book gets an A++!
Rating: Summary: A wonderful collection of heaven's spiritual beings... Review: This is the best angel book cause it tells all about the great ones, like the wonderful Gabriel (my dad) and Cassiel, "the angel of solitudes and tears," and the majestic Michael, who makes sure we're all taking proper care of our angelic duties. Archangels, fallen angels, wise seraphs, even cute lil cherubs...almost every kind of heavenly being is described here. Great illustrations from old art works too... -
Rating: Summary: Best for any mage or Kabballist Review: Well, if you thought you could place all the angels on a pin, you were dead wrong. These have the listings of about every angel that has been recorded. Some sources range from the Bible itself to other documents like the Gnostic writings, Solomon's Keys, Arabic, Agrippa just to name a few. There are some sigils here but few. However, if you know how to use hebrew letters and the Rosy Cross you could possibly summon these angels in the tradional methods. However, I would advise some experience with evocation before summoning any goetic demons. This is also an excellent compendium for any scholar in the Ancient Hebrew mythos of Adonai. It is insighful and gives quick references to angels. Some can appear in dreams, and this is helpful to know who is what in what dream. This is by far the best exposition on angels I have seen in print.
