Rating: Summary: Wimpy Wives Who Question Their Own Judgment Have No Power Review: As a Christian and also a happily married wife, I looked forward to reading this book. I was disappointed to find that it is just like all the other fundamentalist Christian books on marriage. "Change yourself first, all these books argue, and question any anger you hold toward your husband. Isn't it possible that some men are just jerks and not worth preserving the marriage? Why is it these types of books always pretend otherwise? The book encourages women to question their reactions to their husbands' bad behavior and to bring those issues to God instead. I question why I would not communicate about marital issues with my husband. Advice that discourages marital communication is advice I find suspect. The book also encourages women to ignore their anger. Only briefly does the book discuss the righteousness of a decision to leave an abusive or addicted partner. This is the sort of book that would encourage a woman to stay in an abusive marriage, trying to pray her way out of it. My aunt stayed in such a marriage for 17 years, praying constantly with her Christian church, receiving books from her friends that were just like this one. Her marriage ended when her drunken husband almost killed her and threatened her children. Psychologically, she has never recovered. I am not saying that prayer is not powerful; nor am I saying that a wife should not pray for her husband. But the subservient wife depicted in this book - one who questions her own reactions and represses communication with her husband over potentially major marital issues - is not the kind of wife I'd like to be. Nor do I believe it leads to more stable marriage. If your goal is for your Christian marriage to endure, find a good therapist. Or, I recommend "Love is a Decision" - a much better book.
Rating: Summary: a must have for marriage Review: If you know of any woman about to get married you must get her this book. It can help you through the roughest situtations!
Rating: Summary: Prayer changes things!! Review: I am so happy my girlfriend told me about this book. I am a young wife in a young marriage. Sure I know about prayer, I have been praying since age 3, but this book opened up an entire new way of praying for me. I had always prayed simple prayers like, protect my husband from harm, keep him from other women, and help me lord. These short prayers are ok, I suppose, but with the help of this book, I now pray with authority, using bible scriptures as my source. Stormie, has really put her heart and soul in this book. This book has 10+ prayers in it that covers a lot of subjects, including, sex, temptation, health, reputation, work, financial, plus many , more. Before each prayer, Stormie discusses the subject that is be to prayed on and offers advice and true life examples. These stories I find very inspirational. I have begin to see change in my husband and me as well. By using the prayers, I have noticed how wonderful I feel after I pray, one being because I am in the presence of God and two being, I know I am activly involved in creating change and I am not just sitting around wishing things would change or chatting about my problems with my friends. This book is a great resource for EVERY wife. Even if you are not having problems with your husband, still pray to keep it that way. Guard your marriage using this book as a tool.
Rating: Summary: Faith and Prayers Review: Praying for my family was the last thing on my mind as I ran from one obligation to the other including my job. There didn't seem to be enough time in the day to do everything I needed to do much less take out time for prayer. After reading this book, I see things in a new light with a new outlook. It's a great book that will be by my side from now on. Also recommended, The Driven Purpose Life, by Rick Warren and Mommy-CEO, by Jodie Lynn. Rick's book is a quick read with lots of spirit filled thoughts and Jodie's book has a great treat in store for Christian parents and a prayer at the end of the book that I pray every morning. All of these books are a welcomed joy to my family and to myself about faith and what our prayers can do if we will only pray.
Rating: Summary: This book saved my marriage Review: I just read one of the reviews posted and was shocked that one of the reviewers said that Stomie O Martin had no real trials to relate too within her marriage and her life...this is far from the truth...she has been through more horrors in her lifetime than many of us care to even think of. However, I want to share how this book has saved my marriage. My husband and I have gone through some of the worst trials any marriage can face. I can't even begin to tell you the awful things we have faced that would have pulled most people apart!!! This book was my saving grace during all of that and continues to be a reference for me today. I now give this book to anyone who is getting married...it should be given to anyone who is married, getting married, or thinking about getting married...it it the best! Thank You
Rating: Summary: If your looking for real help---here you go! Review: I felt like someone had watched my life and could see every truth and wrote this book about it. Only I had to read it to understand my own life. This book is very clear and extremely easy to relate to. You can't not be helped by this book. Get it!
Rating: Summary: Preaching from a Pedestal Review: I am a Christian wife and I found this book sorely lacking. The author of this book wrote from the perspective of one who has seen little or no difficulty in her life and yet, I believe that the average person encounters many more hardships than were presented in the book. I do not know Stormie and she certainly revealed very little about herself through this book. To me, she seemed to be speaking from a very high platform, preaching what a "good" Christian should preach, with no real prayer-conquered marriage difficulties to stand on. If your marrriage already has very few, minor problems, perhaps this book would tone your relationship. However, if you live in the real world, where there are hardships constantly around the bend, I'd avoid this book and just stick with the good old Bible. Her words seemed far from heart-felt and down-to-earth.
Rating: Summary: Prayer Works... Review: This book is amazing. I loved it. It really helps you to have a closer relationship with your husband. I pick one of the sample prayers from the book and read that one every day for a month. Each month I pick a different one and I can see the prayers are working. I can see the difference in my husband and I can feel God in our marriage. I also can see a difference in myself. It is a good read for any married woman.
Rating: Summary: A Blessing to Our Marriage Review: This book has been such a blessing to me and my marriage. I recommend it to all my married friends and I refer to it all the time. The introduction and the first chapter alone are worth it. The power of prayer is awesome.
Rating: Summary: A martian wrote this Review: Having alrady been awakened to the power of prayer by Dr Phil and Oprah I was thrilled when another 'prayer' wife bought me this book as a gift last sewing bee meeting. i've always wondred if my husband spending time with his old navy buddies every weekend was a way of avoiding me and our sexual life together. i followed omarten's asdvice and prayed that he would love me again but now he's spending so much time at the *lan meetings that i never see him at all. why has god forsaken me? i prayed that God would allow me to understand his delight in regular lynchings of minorities, but now i feel that i can't accept it any longer, no matter what my local government official reccommends. i left the book on the trouser press hoping dan (name has been changed) would pick it up and see how much i prayed for him, but he said he doesn't want a praying wife or a baby. now he wants a divorce. prayer did not make my marriage better and now i feel like eating twinkies forever.
