Summary: THE UNSEEN WORLD
Review: "Sermon On The Mount", is about Metaphysics, or states of consciousness. Fox, and Priests that I have spoken to over the years, say that Jesus was more concerned with what you think, than what you do. It is an inside job, and that is what this book is about. Fox tells you what Jesus was about; what he was really saying. As I read this, I started to see my whole existance differently and I saw everything around me differently. This is an extremely powerful book that one has to be ready for. If you are interested in dealing with your truths and you are into Jesus, then you need to read this. It is a frightening book, because you just might be reading the truth, and that scares people. I have no interest in telling you what Fox says, because we all interpret things differently, and I don't want me in your head while you are reading it. One needs to formulate their own opinions, in general. If you are a person with any type of addiction, this book will put you in a different place in your recovery. The book will definately improve your life, because at the very least it will give you a different perspective on everything. The book makes you think. If you don't want to think, don't buy this. It is understandable. It is not that difficult of a read. I am not that smart and I get it. I think it is totally brilliant, and has helped me in my daily life. Fox has his interpretation of Jesus' Sermon On The Mount at the end, line by line. I came to the same conclusion about the line "forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us", that Fox does, and it helped me to forgive people in my life. Fox states that Jesus said forgiving is one of the most important things you can do in life. This book helped me do that. The book also says that Jesus said that the integrity of the soul is the only thing that matters. That is great information this book is giving, and I want to put myself around these truths. I have no interest in judging this book from a theological perspective, because I am not qualified, and I don't care. I just know that this book helps me in my daily life. So, therefore, if it satisfies theological scholars or not, who cares, because that has no bearing on my daily existance. Also, I do not think that is relevant here. I think everyone needs to individually formulate their own opinion after reading this. I don't think a person should go through their life without reading this.

Summary: Don't be deceived
Review: A good title and a catchy - if misleading - cover make this an intriguing book for Christians. I didn't realize when I bought the book that its author was the champion of Christian Science. But about 25 pages into it I began noticing and understanding that the author was acutally advancing his own plan for salvation based on the life of Jesus Christ. I pity him: his lack of "child-like" faith in Jesus; the exclusion of grace in his philosophizing; and the need to invent a theory in which it is possible for one to save oneself. This is a misconstruing of the Bible, along the lines of Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, New Age, etc. No question - THIS IS NOT THE GOSPEL OF JESUS. The book is in my garbage can.

Summary: Excellent source for spiritual renewal & growth.
Review: An indispensable source for the openminded. The power of Christ revealed -- making you think and helping you grow. Explains Beattitudes, Lords Prayer, and more. It sits by my bed and will stay there until I have mastered it. Employ the paradox --give up your life to receive it, and enjoy God's peace. This book will move you along the path.

Summary: A non-literal reading of the sermon on the mount
Review: Considered a classic by many, this book does a good job of disecting the sermon on the mount. Heavy into allegory and straight out of an Augustinian mindset, the reader will be presented with an alternate interpretation that is not quite as practical as the author believes it to be. Never the less, the ability to understand the not so apparent meanings can be fruitful.

Summary: A must-have for the serious Christian
Review: Emmet Fox masterfully translates Jesus' Sermon on the Mount into an understandable dictum for how we are to live our lives. His insight is clear, direct, and precise; he leaves no stone unturned nor does he bar any holds. This book is not for the part-time believer, but rather for someone who is serious in their walk along the Christian path.

Summary: Essential guide for spiritual progess
Review: Emmet Fox was a philosopher and lecturer in the '30s; this book was read and used by the founders of AA before the Big Book was written. Although Fox writes of what I think of as "absolutes" (you can overcome death, for example) kind of in the style of the Oxford Groups (also popular at that time), I find his approach to the Jesus Christ message full of hope and clear cut examples of how to apply this to your daily life. I cannot recite the Lord's Prayer without thinking of Fox's interpretation. I love this book!!

Summary: Success in Life and PROOF!!
Review: For the last 2000 years, but mostly in the last 10 there has been much debate about the New Testament and the subject, Jesus of Nazareth. Organizations that claim to be Christian represent a very large percentage of present world religion and claim this Jesus as their central figure. At present, I wonder if the world is any better off because of these organizations? Was Jesus God or man? If man, was he the true heir or King of the Jews or was he just the step son of a carpenter who met a tragic end? The only proof that we have and probably will ever have is the New Testament itself, and what is provable and really important, YOU CAN PROVE FOR YOURSELF. Take away all of the stuff that you and anyone else can not absolutely prove and what do you have left? The 'words' that are attributed to this man Jesus! You might conclude that the man Jesus was more practical than religious? 'Practical' is the subject of this book! Look especially close to the words that He spoke to the multitudes, the you and the me of his time. Emmet Fox says that the meat and potatoes of Jesus teaching is in *The Sermon on the Mount* found in Matthew 5, 6, and 7. Emmet Fox days that all of his years of study are distilled in his book with the same name. Emmet Fox says that Jesus taught a method where a person could actually change and improve his life. The method involves building from the inside and this is 'The Key to Success in Life'. Where is the proof of this fantastic claim? Is it true? The proof is the most reliable of all, YOU WILL PROVE IT FOR YOURSELF. The truth works!! That is the acid test. Jesus spoke to the people of his day and Emmet Fox puts Jesus words into the language of our day and shows us how we can make this remarkable change for ourselves. I first read Emmet Fox about 12 years ago and have read this particular book at least a dozen times. It is always out on my reading table. Every time I open it I find something new and better than the time before. For me all of Emmet Fox's books are pure gold.

Summary: Gold Standard
Review: For the members of A.A. this is the gold standard for spiritual advice. Early recruitees to AA had to read this book to be allowed discharge from Bob Smith's (AA's co-founder) alcoholics treatment facility. Read it and see why.
