Rating: Summary: A MASCULINE CHALLENGE FOR "REAL" LIFE Review: Another worthy, wonderful work; by John Eldredge, which should not be missed. An encouraging book, for men to learn from, and truly identify with.

Yes, he is a radical, but in his defence - so was Jesus. It's been a while since I've read Wild at Heart (WaH), but I recall it being refreshing to my faith, just as Eldredge in person has been refreshing to me. I've had the privilege of listening to him speak a few times.
I've read all his books (haven't seen the videos) and I get them confused, but what I've really taken away from the man is his vision of the way church should be, that is a band of brothers. Granted, he doesn't delve into any 'bands of sisters.' Probably only because that would be outside the scope of this book? Anyways, Jesus exemplified intimacy through discipleship with three men and he also kept a group of buddies known as "The Twelve." And from that he left a legacy.
I wonder, how is Sunday morning church like Jesus' model? I'm sure discipleship happens in churches, but not nearly enough.
Some readers complain that they have not been wounded by their fathers and therefore this book doesn't really apply to them. I've had a great dad, most of the time. I don't think he's given me any major wounds... But I did get wounds during gradeschool, though I won't dive into that here... The point is that we all received serious wounds as children, even if they didn't come from our fathers. Like Milton says, "Happy, but for so happy ill secured." So if you take the father-wound theme in stride and try to be a good reader (looking at the world thru the author's eyes & saving criticsm for later if at all), then you will enjoy the book and maybe it will change you.
Rating: Summary: Work this and discover... Review: Eldredge's book, Wild at Heart, is a wonderful primer to journey deeper into the heart of a man. But if you are like me (sometimes a little slow on the uptake), you may need an extra push to press what you have read into life. That is what this work book offers-a chance to get the ideas off the pages, out of the book, through your brain and into your life. Most men have a harder time getting in touch with their feelings and the desires that flow out of a new heart in Christ. Now we have some solid, practical guidance that is rooted in faith and fidelity. As well, Eldredge brings some great correctives to criticisms leveled against Wild at Heart. Best book and guide I've seen in years and I use both in small groups. Hope you enjoy it.
Rating: Summary: Good Field Manual Review: I enjoyed each Eldredge book I've read and this field guide is well worth its weight. I had the privilege of walking through the manual at one of the Wild at Heart conferences. What a gut wrenching yet stretching and growing season for me! If you enjoyed Wild at Heart, you'll enjoy this manual.
Rating: Summary: Our Assoc. Pastor Taught Some Principles From This Book Review: I have to admit I haven't read this book, but our associate pastor is teaching a series on Biblical masculinity from this book.I just want to say that women have THE SAME desire to be courageous, wild, and adventurous as men. At least I do. So I'm not exactly sure that those are just male traits, but I do agree that men have been socially and culturally repressed in this "female liberated" society.
Rating: Summary: From a womans perspective Review: I knew before starting this book that it was written for men, but because i had heard it spoken of so highly i felt that there must be some lesson in it for me, being a young woman. This book was incredible, not only in helping me to better understand men and what they desire and need, but also in understanding women and how God created us, and how if men will be men and women will be women, we will fit together in the blessed perfection that God created us. It is a wonderfully didactic, uplifting book that is firmly grounded in the Bible. It has been a blessing to me and my relationship as well as to my male friends to whom i loaned it.

Rating: Summary: Shot between the eyes! Review: I must admit that I am not one for the hype attached to books these days but this one knocked my socks off. I am a pastor of a church and have read many books. But this one really hit me where I live. I would highly recommend this book to anyone man serious about the life God created him to live. Eldredge takes you all the way back to creation and gives you your purpose while showing you how Satan has taken that away from you. If you read it you need to let your wife read it as well. Particularly chapters 1 & 2. It will change your life!
Rating: Summary: Excellent Supplement to Wild at Heart Review: I purchased "Wild a Heart" several years ago and found it to be an eye opening, near-life-changing experience. This past summer I picked the Field Guide and started re-reading the book while working through the Field Guide with it. It made the experience even better. Eldredge is being attacked on some fronts for his perspective on what the Bible calls for men to do and be, but I thoroughly believe he is on the right track. And if you read the book and work through the Field Guide at the same time, I think you will be similarly impressed. The Field Guide truly enhances the learning experience of the book. The exercises are simple, e.g., list your favorite movies, but highly effective. If you haven't read "Wild at Heart," buy it and get the Field Guide with it. If you have read it, buy the Field Guide and read the book again in conjunction with the Guide. You'll be glad you did.
