Rating: Summary: A new way to look at my Christian faith Review: I would recommend reading this book over and over, and over. Leave it alone for a while, and then if you're truly bored with life, read it again! Brennan Manning captures the real message about the wonderful grace and unconditional love of God the Father and his Son, Jesus Christ. Open your heart to what Brennan presents to us and look at what Jesus gives us in a whole new light. But, of course, don't substitute what is contained in this book for what is so well-established in the Bible, God's Holy Word. The truth does set us free!
Rating: Summary: Reviving our Teens in their Bible Study Review: We have been using this book in our Tuesday Night Bible study with our high school students. What an incredible revival it is bringing in their hearts! Our teens are always striving for TRUTH and LOVE and this books is serving to teach them the importance of God's love and truth in their lives and to set them free from guilt. Never before have our teens been so involved in a mid-week Bible study and never before has the group discussions been so powerful!
Rating: Summary: Before you die, READ THIS BOOK! Review: "The tendency in legalistic religion is to mistrust God, to mistrust others, and consequently to mistrust ourselves. Allow me to become personal for a moment. Do you really believe that the Father of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is gracious, that he cares about you? Do you really believe that he is always, unfailingly, present to you as companion and support? Do you really believe that God is love?"With these words Brennan Manning challenges us to ask ourselves if we really believe. Are we willing to cast aside our action steps, our striving human effort, and make room for the God who is present, gracious, and who does care for us? Read this book and find out why you should.
Rating: Summary: A Sample Review: I am a bow on your hands, Lord. Draw me, lest I rot. Do not overdraw me, Lord, I shall break. Overdraw me, Lord, and who cares if I break? If this prayer moves you then buy this book.
Rating: Summary: Revealing "THE" Truth Review: One of the most revealing and eye opening books I have ever read. Revealing because it exposes the traps, and the "fake" Gospel that most people accept. It communicates the most powerful message of human existance, in a very tender way. Life changing.
Rating: Summary: Renewing Words Review: Around the time I found this book, I was involved in a condemnation-oriented church. To be honest, I was having a hard time convincing people that being a Christian was a good thing, because I wasn't so sure I could believe it myself anymore. With the help of this book, lots of prayer, and the grace of God, I was able to move through that time in my life and remain faithful.
Rating: Summary: Powerful message Review: I have read this book 7 times, and need to read it again. It is a powerful book.
Rating: Summary: Should we go on sinning so that grace may increase? No! Review: I was bitterly disappointed with this book. Brennan Manning may well be encouraging people to feel better about themselves, but he is not teaching what the New Testament does about the Christian life. The overwhelming number of quotes and illustrations Manning uses are from non-Christian sources, so the divergence from Christian thought on living a holy life is perhaps not surprising. And what, after all, would one make of Jesus' teaching on a righteous life, or the apostle Paul's on the seriousness of sexual sin, in the context of this book? "So whoever sets aside one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven. But whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you, unless your righteousness greatly exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you'll never get into the kingdom of heaven!" Jesus speaking, Matt 5:18-20 (ISV) "Keep on running away from sexual immorality. Any other sin that a person commits is outside his body, but the person who sins sexually sins against his own body." Paul writing, 1 Cor 6:18 (ISV) Both Paul and Jesus used as starting point the belief that the Christian, or follower of Jesus, can indeed choose to resist sin, by the grace of God. Yes, there is forgiveness when we fall, but we must not _plan_ to fall. The same Jesus who said to the woman caught in adultery, "I do not condemn you," followed this immediately with "Go and sin no more." We shouldn't take Jesus (or the rest of the Bible) by halves, but I felt very strongly that this is what Manning was doing in his book.
Rating: Summary: Manning Knows Grace Review: Brennan Manning writes an intelligent treatise of the subject of God's grace. His seasoned language and personal examples guide the reader through a concept many Christians find difficult to grasp: how can a perfect God care so much for His very imperfect people. If you struggle with the miracle of grace and tend to artifically attach strings to God's love, read this book, then re-read it. I have purchased 8 copies to give to friends and after 4 weeks, I'm all out.
Rating: Summary: Raggamufin Gospel depicts grace with brilliance and clarity. Review: Brennon Manning depicts grace with clarity and accuracy that captures the heart and life of the reader, and makes you hungry for more. A must read for all who long to understand and receive grace.
