Rating: Summary: The CCC - Gift to the Church! Review: I can not adequately express what a joy the CCC has been to me. I grew up in "CCD" where we just stood around and sang kumbuya. Like many people, I wondered, "where is the meat? Here it is! The treasure of our faith and beliefs. Of the God who always draws near us! Of our response to him - faith! Of our challenge to proclaim and celebrate and live the faith! This is a beautiful expression of the symphony of the faith. For good reason, it has been called the Catechism of Vatican II and the greatest bible study ever done. Finally, get the straight scoop on what the Church believes and see how great, how loving, how steadfast our God is. Every family should have one - especially for answering the unending stream of questions that kids have with a solid, clear answer. Serious students should check out the Companion to the Catechism
Rating: Summary: A Protestant's Point of View Review: Being a Protestant, yet deeply respectful and, at the same time, curious about the Catholic Church, I was looking to learn more about Her. Regrettably, there are many misguided people out there who have very one-sided, skewed, and often just plain incorrect views of the Catholic Church. Sometimes, as a Protestant who just didn't know any better, it was difficult for me to seperate the fact from the fiction. That's where this book came in. I found that if you want answers on something, go to the source. And the Catechism of the Catholic Church is just the source I needed. I found this book extremely useful in learning exactly what the Catholic Church believed without all that outsider bias. For anyone outside the Catholic faith who really wants to know more true, bare facts about what it is to be Catholic and hold Catholic beliefs, this is book is a great start.
Rating: Summary: It's... erm... thorough. Review: This book has received severe criticism for several quite justifiable reasons. It presents the Catholic faith as monolithic and inflexible, and draws no distinctions between those things that must be believed and those things that the magisterium would like to be believed. That being said, it is an excellent source for learning what the official Catholic stance is on a number of issues-though often with very little explanation of why that stance is taken.
Rating: Summary: Looking for Church Teaching? Review: I'm a Protestant, but I highly recommend this work to anyone interested in Catholic teaching (especially Protestants who are interested in the Catholic/Protestant debate). It's sometimes hard to understand at points, but I don't think anyone could ask for a better organized collection of the Catholic Church's teachings in one location.
