Summary: Keep Your Bible Handy
Review: The most important thing to say about this book is that you will want to (infact, you will NEED to) read the New Testament to fully understand much of its content. This is not a bad thing: Brown's intent was that you actually sit down and read the bilblical texts, preferably before delving into his commentary! His format is extremely no-nonsense (his frequent abbreviation may infact be the only off-putting aspect of the book), and the "Issues and Concerns" at the end of each chapter encourage dialogue and critical thinking. I have already read many books by other popular religious authors (J.D. Crossan, John Shelby Spong, Elaine Pagels, etc), and was happy to finally get around to Fr. Brown. I am looking forward to reading his other books.

Summary: The Bible Comes Alive
Review: The Word of God as found in the Scriptures has never had a better exegete than Fr. Brown. He writes with academic authority, never arrogant and always humble, showing readers of all levels the polysemy that unfolds in the New Testament.

If one has room for only one commentary, let this be it. If not, this will become undoubtedly your favorite, leaving the rest in the back of the pack. Fr. Brown takes the awe and inspiring and make them awesome and inspirational.

I get goosebumps when I read him. Revelation never had a better voice.

Summary: Best introductory text to the New Testament
Review: This book is quite thorough and succinct. The references at the end of each chapter are extremely useful. Footnotes, though quite extensive, are of immense help. I suspect our fundamentalist friends will not share my views. But I do believe this is destined to become a classic.

Summary: Fantastic
Review: This book is the best New Testament guide I have found. The author guides you through the many issues surrounding the origins and authorship of the New Testament, and provides the reader with a balanced understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of the many positions. There are so many different approaches to these issues that it is easy to assume in reading a particular book that one view is "the" way it is. The author provides the reader with some perspective. I think the book's greatest contribution is in explaining what the current NT documents are, and how they fit together.

Summary: great information
Review: This book was the best thing I could have read this year. Brown really writes to us who are beginning in the Bible!

Summary: Give us a new way to study New Testament
Review: This is the best N.T. Introduction in the World. Father Brown give me and my classmates a new way to study New Testament. I hope more Chinese Christian Scholars to read this book and improve their Bible knowledge.
